W Magazine is declaring “Fall 2016, the Season of the Witch” with a spread photographed by Inez & Vinoodh and styled by Paul Cavaco. 

Cavaco pulls pieces from the Fall 2016 collections to create looks that range in silhouette and feeling. The photo shown is head to toe DSquared2. Gothic, flowy, and sexy are the expected. Puritanical, masculine, and certain textures are the unexpected. 

For their part, Inez & Vinoodh bring a theatrical amount of overexposure and  filtering that make it feel like scrolling through a well thought out Instagram account. The settings and backgrounds are complimentary, though some of the props take the gimmick a bit too bar. A hitchhiker holding up a sign that says “Salem”? The audience is smarter than that, I hope.

While I celebrate “the Season of the Witch,” I’m going to be bold by declaring it the Lifetime of the Witch. Styling to a witchy silhouette, a black color palette, and gothic details and accessories has never really been out of style, right? Not according to the history of my closet anyways.
