Hi! Just found your Obsession Au of Alastor so might be a little long because I'm curious about some parts! If you're over the au asks feel free not to reply, no problem!
So if not even blood relatives or animals are excluded from the obsession curse does that mean even children are affected? Not saying gross or sexual things like that would actually happen nor do I think Alastor would ever allow it even for a bad end but it must be very akaward and extremely uncomfortable knowing literally all the the kids in cannibal town have what can be describe as a childish crush and fascination with him or in some cases if teens have more parasocial over him like you'd see from hormonal boy band obsessed teens that they are probably very invasive about their questions if they were to try to speak to him. I'd imagine from all the places the town where sinner kids live most would be one he'd want to avoid most on principle if he went out at all. Seems almost Children of the Corn kind of disturbing if these kids have little fanclubs that are dangerously close to cult like or seek his approval because they idolize him in ways they're too young to understand.
Besides that I think with the Alastor's mother part making it automatically a romantic thing because of no exceptions feels almost just dark for dark sake and kind of closes the door for some more complex types of story it can lead to if they were to meet in this au (especially since for some reason incest kinks are kind of big in some parts of this fandom it can easily accidentally look more fetish like than tragic but ig that's with anything lol). The theme of parents being obsessed with their kids in a non romantic/sexual way tends to be more interesting and easily ignored imo because most stories hold back and make them just a little manipulative or go all the way and make them a rapist, they kind of ignore things like emotional incest (if it's still called that since no actual incest actually happens). I think emotional incest and forced dependency where there's nothing actually happening that even some grown adults are adamant their relationship with their parents is not abusive or unhealthy because it never crosses a line opens the door some equally as uncomfortable, fucked up, and sad things to happen instead of being deaddove for dove sake here, especially if it's almost infantilizing or trying to mold her son to be the perfect child she used to think he was before he went to Hell or into what she wished his father was like that she'd deprive him of being himself under the excuse of knowing what's best for him. It almost sounds like the least bad end or just the same as Rosie but realistically Alastor probably wouldn't be comfortable or happy long term especially since not only does he see someone he thought could do no wrong become like this but also he doesn't fully know how it affects her and due to how he's seen others act with the curse, when notices there's alot of boundaries being broken like idk trying to bath him as if he's a child he sometimes fears she might actually be interested in him and is always on edge from things that should be comforting coming from a mother like hugs or gentle touches. Like Alastor is confused and fearful there might be a day his mother will do something like that to him and feels like a terrible son for not trusting or not wanting to be around her. The dread and discomfort of a day that never comes sounds exhausting but more interesting than straight up incest imo. Ofc I know realistically the chances of Alastor interacting with his mother are very low since she's in Heaven and they've had no contact since lol
Idk if these count as questions, more like laying out parts I think are implied but not spoken about too deeply so more about asking your opinions or corrections on what my takes or theories I had about it ^-^
Need to dust off the old tome here, so forgive me if I contradict from any past posts.
To start with the kids, yes. You pretty much nailed it. They're like most animals in the sense that it's not really anything too crude. Childish crushes, and I'm sure some aren't even aware it's a crush and think different things (wanting Alastor to be their friend, dad, weird uncle twice removed, so on). Depending on the child, they can get clingy. But you've always got the shy ones that aren't confident enough to walk up to him or will just try to hand him something and run away before he has a chance to react.
As for his mother, I like what you came up with! I don't remember at all what I came up with, other than that she would be affected as well. And I probably left it at that because I don't have much interest in the subject (maybe in the future? I dunno.)
However, there is a key component to the obsession AU that I think I've talked a bit about in the past as to whether it would remain this way or not (spoiler alert, I haven't really settled on the answer, though I lean towards how it currently is).
And it's that, the obsession curse isn't just about obsession. It's about romance. It's a great exaggeration of how the fandom constantly ships the guy who doesn't want to be in any sort of romantic relationship (probably. His romantic orientation is technically up in the air, but he's aromantic in the AU at least).
So the idea is pretty much "if you can ship it with Alastor, it is here".
His mother having romantic feelings was done less out of "dark to be dark" (but I have done that before, don't you worry, and I always cringe after I realize) as much as "oh yeah, I guess she would want to be romantic with him." At least, that was my thought process.
I don't think the two ideas need to be mutually exclusive of course. His mother could still treat Alastor like a child, but still be "in love" with him. The core premise of the AU is that of this romance-repulsed guy being bombarded with unwanted suitors, no matter what. Having other obsessions (like someone once suggesting those of aro orientation just wanting to be close friends with Alastor instead of being in a relationship) kind of destroys the premise of the AU.
Of course, that's also been what's made it so damn tricky to give every character a unique obsession. Lucifer and Charlie are prime examples as they are pretty bland and similar to one another (at least to me). But in the case of those two characters, I wanted both of them to be attracted to Alastor to allude to the two ships (radioapple and Charlastor/Radiobelle).
The good news is that Alastor is probably never gonna be meeting his mother. Unless she herself is in Hell (which I don't think she is), I don't think Alastor would risk meeting his mother. Going as far as to request that Emily ensure she doesn't come through at all.
I'm also of the "his mother would totally disown him" side of things. (I actually wrote a fic on the idea. I'm not a huge fan of the interpretation of her just casually forgiving his sins, as it makes their potential dynamic less interesting to me. I go at it a bit in the notes, but it just seems crazy how blasé people think she'd be about it. Unless she's just as bad as him, I think her not wanting anything to do with him but still having those lingering bits of motherly love is far more interesting. But that's entirely unrelated to the AU.)
I do get where you're coming from with your thoughts, though. It's just that with the rules I've settled on in the AU, it wouldn't make sense for her not to be romantically inclined towards Alastor. Even being blood-related, it'd feel weird for the curse to discriminate. And you do still get the same sense of "betrayal in a place he trusted", or you would if he wasn't aware of how things would go down. He's been through it twice, thinking "maybe they aren't affected", only for it to backfire tremendously. He'd know it wouldn't be good to meet his mother.
You seem really into the pure motherly route, though. And I say go explore the idea more if you're interested in it! For the time being, I'd probably still have her romantically inclined if she and Alastor were ever to meet.
Which, again, I don't really think they would, and I have no interest in exploring it personally.
