I need to scream about this scene for a minute because oh my god is it something else okay so. This is the scene where Stede’s treasure map gets burnt and he’s really upset about it, and right after Lucius has told Ed to stop being such a dick and that the only reason Stede is doing this is because he likes Ed so much, which by itself is so… *distant screaming*
Anway, so upon hearing this Ed immediately and without hesitation goes over to a Very Sad Stede and begins to go into a whole beautifully kind charade about how they can still find the treasure and whatnot. And the look on Lucius’ face.
This man can barely contain a grin at the fact that Ed ‘Blackbeard’ Teach actually listened to him (and didn’t stab him in the face) and is now entertaining his Captain’s silly little treasure hunt. Also, this is the face of a man who is very smug because he knows for a fact that his two friends are a living breathing idiots-to-lovers trope.
He literally cannot help this adorable little grin that he has, and I absolutely love it. But then he remembers the whole ‘stabbing in the face’ thing and is like “nope, no sir, I wasn’t smiling absolutely not no way, this is a very serious matter and I was not at all smiling” like–
Okay but then in the next shot we have a Very Happy Stede (god I love this fucking man), who has had his Hope Restored and is ready to go treasure hunting. And I just love this moment because the way that Lucius and Ed are looking at him is so unbelievably tender.
Like they genuinely love this guy, and they love to see that he’s happy – even if its over something that they both think is ridiculous.
There is just so much love and joy in this one frame that it genuinely makes me teary eyed. Stede is so happy (god bless him), and Ed is happy that the person he loves is happy – and that he was able to make him happy.
And Lucius is just giddy by how fucking adorable these two idiots are, and I love that. Genuinely, I feel like the Ed/Stede/Lucius relationship is so amazing, and I think that Lucius is a really important friend to both of them. The way that he genuinely cares for people makes my heart explode, and I cannot get enough of him.
And to top it off, he goes and pulls this face
Which is like. Same. He’s literally reacting how all of us were – like this is the most adorable but stupid courting ritual I have ever seen in my life and these two dorks are so stupid with their pining but it’s just so lovely.
And also, can we just take a moment to appreciate Ed’s expression. Just. Wow. He is just absolutely head-over-leather-boots for Stede. This man has got it bad. BAD. He is so in love and he doesn’t even know it.
And he thinks its great. You know what’s also great? The way you can literally see the exact moment that Ed’s heart eyes turn into “if you say one more word I will stab you” eyes. Amazing.
I just really love this scene, the acting is done so well and there are so many expressions to unpack. In conclusion, I adore Lucius with my whole heart, Stede is a blessing to this world, and Ed has got it bad for the funky little gentleman pirate.
