“The natural state of Shadowhunters is battle,” said Tessa. “When it is always ongoing, there is no time to stop and think that it is not an ideal state for happiness. Alas, we have had that time for the past decade or so. Perhaps we had begun to think ourselves invincible.”
“People are only invincible in books,” said Cordelia.
“I think you will find most of the time, not even then,” said Tessa. “But at least we can always pick up a book and read it anew. Stories offer a thousand fresh starts.”
It was true, Cordelia thought. She had read the story of Layla and Majnun a thousand times, and each time the beginning was a thrill, even though she knew—and dreaded—the end.
“Sophie stepped forward, holding out a shallow velvet box on which had been placed two rings, both with the Herondale design. Inside each ring had been etched a single image of lightning, a nod to Tessa’s Starkweather heritage, and six words: the last dream of my soul. Will didn’t care if the quote wouldn’t mean anything to other people. It meant everything to him and Tessa.” Just a reminder to pre-order Chain of Gold if you’re reading in English — the special first editions will contain the short story “Fairytale of London” about Will an Tessa’s wedding (and wedding night 💒) — once the first editions sell out, they’re gone! 💋

Woo! Charlie Bowater’s full portrait of James Herondale from The Last Hours. You’ll be seeing him and Cordelia at BookCon and I’ll be rolling out more gorgeous art as we approach the release of Chain of Gold in March!(If you look closely you can see the etchings on James’ pistol — runes and the words “Luke 12:49.” (“I have come to ignite a fire on the earth - and how I wish it were already kindled.”) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxnBaNwHIVx/?igshid=2gw4w6eippki

You can rest now, Anthony Edward Stark (May 29, 1970 - 2023). Thank you for everything.
Typewriter Series #2556 by Tyler Knott Gregson
This poem is a collaboration with my beautiful friend Annie of @Sonder_goods for an unbelievable candle with a custom scent I helped create. Stay tuned for more, but follow her in the meantime :)
Text for Tired Eyes:
In scent is memory, breathe and follow it back. Hands on hands, then, in some stillness, noses in necks, some soft smell of sensuality, of safety, of the spinning when all things are new.
Take this glow and call it home.

Magnus Bane’s monogram (pre-wedding ofc!) Designed by Kate Leth. I like to think of Magnus stamping his letters with a wax seal in the 17th and 18th centuries. I’ve been working on Chain of Gold and currently editing the scene where Magnus shows up for the first time just as our unlucky group of heroes have accidentally summoned a demon … #magnusbane #herondales #chainofgold #tlh https://www.instagram.com/p/BvpBh4GFVUi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=jxojxtwwl77x

Emma Carstairs, in all her magnificent glory!!
I’m honestly very proud of this painting and it’s very dear to me. And also, using a limited pallette felt soo good, I might just do it more often!
Em belongs to the amazing @cassandraclare
I love this so much! Go Emma!
