MOVING!

To make my life easier, and to make it easier for me to keep up on posts, I am MOVING Aqua to a sideblog on my multi-muse account. You can find here HERE. I’m not quitting, or even going on hiatus, I’m just moving her account over so I don’t have to switch between log-ins. This makes this a lot easier on me as a Uni student. I’ll be leaving this account up so threads won’t be lost. (But it’ll likely take me a day or two to get everything moved over.)

HOWEVER, I’m *not* restarting it, so if we have a thread together, it’ll just continue over there instead of here. My URL didn’t actually change, since I changed this one in order to snag it again on the side account.

The only thing that’ll really be lost is… Aqua won’t send out asks? But if I really need to, I can do that on this account.

"I wasn’t wandering, I was on my way home!  I went without a map because I don’t need one!"

The (lost) assassin spoke proudly, now standing with both hands on his hips.  Apparently he couldn’t hear how stupid he sounded.  A clearly prideful man.  Why not be?  He felt great.  His premonition was correct.  As a Catfishion- Centurion, Centurion.  As a Centurion, she felt obligated to look out for him.  That or he was right about her being bored out of her mind.  Either way, he’d gotten what he wanted, so he was satisfied.

"Not a cave, that’s for sure.  I work in Tolbyccia.  Near Dahngrest?  Sounding familiar?"

He really didn’t LIVE anywhere, but his place of work was close enough to a home, right?  He had a room and a bed there.  There was a kitchen and bathroom.  That made it home.  Besides, it was where he needed to return to if he ever wanted another job, so it was ‘where he was from’.

"Tol... what?" Aqua frowned in response. For a moment, she almost expected a punchline, as if it were some bizarre play on the human language she just didn't understand. Granted, she didn't carry a map herself, but when one lived for over 10,000 years - even if she'd spent about 4,000 of them asleep - she was fairly confident she knew the layout of the world fairly well. There was, admittedly, always more for anyone to discover, but for two entire cities to be unknown to mortals and Centurions alike seemed pretty unlikely.

At least that explains why he's so... weird, she thought, crossing her arms. He's an alien. It was a dramatic leap, sure, but it wasn't as if aliens were a far-shot away from Summon Spirits and Centurions. Then again, maybe he was just from Dherris Kharlon. That didn't seem likely though, from what she'd heard, that'd be impossible by now. Clearly that only left... alien.

"Dhangrest?" she shook her head, "Never heard of it. That doesn't sound like anywhere in Sylverant or Tethe'alla."

"Nope."

Zagi deadpanned his answer as if it was obvious.  He didn’t seem concerned in the least.  Sure, he was lost, but he was lost inside the temple too, and he’d been lost before.  It wasn’t a big deal.

Had she asked because… she wouldn’t leave him if he were still lost?  Aha!  That meant he wouldn’t have to be bored AND lost at the same time!  He put his hand on his hip before investigating this possibility.

"Why do you ask?"

To say Aqua was surprised would have been a lie. As she stared at the man she wished was still a complete stranger to her, she bit back the urge to sigh. Suddenly she was beginning to understand why Richter avoided humans so much. They really were rather hopeless. Or maybe they were just all mad.

"...you're kidding, right?" she asked in vain, having a feeling she already knew the answer. "What are you doing wandering around without a map? Do you enjoy being lost that much?"

Another sigh build up in her chest, but she swallowed the air down and crossed her arms as they stopped near the cave's exist. She could help the ape out. That would be the right thing to do. After all, she was a Centurion, and she had something of an obligation to the planet and everything on it, not just those affiliated with water. Then again, sticking around for too long might have been dangerous. Of course, she had been lonely and bored until he showed up. He might even prove to be entertaining. "Where are you from, anyway?"

"Good.  This place is stupid and you’re just plain strange."

The pot calling the kettle black, now?  It seemed so.

Although he said he was glad to nearly be out, he wasn’t.  Once he got out of there he would be just as lost as he had been inside.  He still didn’t know where he was.  Not to mention, the Centurian was interesting.  Strange and annoying, but amusing.  There probably wouldn’t be anything to do outside.  No one to entertain him.

But he couldn’t overstay his welcome.  He’d already been whining about how much he wanted out.  It would make him seem desperate for attention if he backed out now.  Which he was.  But he wasn’t about to admit to it.

Dealing with Zagi was like dealing with Ignis on a bad day, but as frustrating as Tenebrae. She had never taken well to being insulted, and her temper was as dangerous and vast as the ocean itself - it was her embodying element, after all - but Aqua had always prided herself on being able to control it - somewhat.

Fists clenched and cheeks puffed out, Aqua waved her hand through the air a second time. In response, Meri turned around, nodding once to the water Centurion before disappearing. Down the path ahead of them, the light shinning through the open exit of the temple could be seen, giving them much better lighting than the rest of their walk.

"Your exit is just up ahead," Aqua muttered with a huff. Spiteful jerk. "You know how to get back from wherever you came from from here out, right?"

There was no promise for that, but she could hope. Travelling with Mr. Grumpy Idi-Ape wasn't appealing at all.

She was right about the ‘trigger with the wrong word’ bit.  Zagi seemed to get angry.  Fast.  He was instantly glaring and raising his voice, his entire air becoming hostile.  Interacting with him at all was like a lottery.  You may be doing good for a while, but one wrong number and you, my friend, have lost this one.

"I don’t go around craping on people’s hair!  Besides, the bird was stupid anyway!  I should’ve killed the rest of them too!  They were all stupid and annoying!  Who do you think you are, calling me a spiteful jerk!?  You aren’t human!  How would you know anything about the world outside of your little cave, huh?  I’m not doing anything wrong!"

At the very least, it seemed he wasn’t angry with HER, per say.  He was just… angry.  Like a bottle that had been shaken up, he didn’t seem to have any particular target, he was just releasing a bit of hatred at anything he could.  As he finished his rant, he calmed down a bit.  He made and annoyed ‘tsk’ sound and rolled his eyes, but he stopped glaring.

So his temper was pretty violent; that was one question answered. At least he hadn't lashed out at her, so that was something to take into consideration. Even if it was a small something. She'd just have to be careful of what she said in the future. As long as she didn't push any buttons, she wouldn't have to worry about avoiding his temper.

"I didn't mean in people's hair," she defended. Honestly, why would he even think she meant something that gross? Was he as hard of hearing as he seemed to be common sense? "And I told you! I do leave this cave. All the time. Just because I was here when you got lost doesn't make me a hermit.". And that much was true, she had travelled a lot. Granted, not in the recent past - it just wasn't as fun on her own - but she did go places.

"Uuuugh, just forget it." Trying to argue with him was too tiring anyway. "Look, it's getting brighter in here; we're almost out."

He still couldn’t figure out what it was in particular that drew him towards the young blond. It wasn’t that. No matter what any of the others thought of the situation….it wasn’t because of him. The resemblance was a simple coincidence.

Why? Why tell Emil that they were enemies yet still wish to be near to him? Richter scoffed mentally, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. “Isn’t it obvious? If he’s useful, why not make use of someone even if they’re your enemy? If they’re willing, I see no problem doing so.”

Aqua was many things, and while she didn't enjoy admitting it, not all of them were shining character traits. She was not, however, an idiot, or easily fooled. As she listened to Richter's explanation, her lips pursed in annoyance, clear disbelief in her eyes she didn't dare voice. At least, not for now. For someone who was generally as blunt as Richter was, the man seemed to have a talent for walking a conversation around in a circle by giving the same, vague answers in different ways.

Does he really not notice? she wondered, moving back to Richter's side to allow them to keep walking. He can't... be that oblivious, can he? The water Centurion didn't want to imagine it. As far as she was concerned, the half-elf was just about as perfect as mortals could be. Sure, he was a bit grumpy and snappish sometimes, but he generally meant well. But still... this was just frustrating. "You're not just going to try and get information out of him... right? What else are we going to do?"

"Master Richter~!" Aqua greeted, her face breaking into a smile. Lacing her fingers together behind her back, the Centurion inclined her head to the side, curiosity melting into her tone. "You called for me?"

Oh, he knew about people working to keep the world the way it was.  They were strong.  And if you got in their way, they were relentless.  It was wonderful.  No one he could face in a coliseum could match that fire.  No stupid marathon could get his heart racing the same way.  This woman must have been in this shrine for far too long.  She didn’t know what true excitement was.

Her next statement confused him even more.  He tilted his head, making a loud ‘ehhhhhhhh?’ noise.  Had she even been listening to him?  Zagi hated when people didn’t listen to what he was saying… then again, maybe it wasn’t intentional.  Those cat ear things on her head might not work that well.  Maybe they were pointing the wrong way or something when he first went over it, causing her to miss some of his speech.

"I told you, the bird wasn’t innocent.  It pooped in my hair.  I put a lot of work into this, I just said so.  I can’t have stupid animals messing it up.  And what do you mean threatening people?  It’s not a threat if you’re going to go through with it.  It’s more of a… promise.  An oath.  Threats are for weaklings who’d back out last minute.  I don’t do that."

Of one thing Aqua was certain... there was no doubt this man was crazy. And likely not the good sort of crazy either. He seemed like the type you'd find mumbling to themselves creepily at the park, and who would go on a screaming rampage if you triggered them with the wrong word. She'd have to be careful - if she turned into a core near him... Aqua shuddered. It wouldn't end well. She just knew it. Thus, it would be something to avoid.

"What, and you don't?" Aqua asked, frowning. "You can't kill something just because it pooped. That's stupid - and it makes you a spiteful jerk. Just wash your hair! What did you expect, letting them nest in there?" It made perfect sense to her - that's just how animals and monsters worked. They didn't always understand the finer details like that. Zagi couldn't have been so oblivious to not be able to figure it out.

Again…? Aqua thought, giving Zagi a look of slight unease. Humans weren’t supposed to be able to grow back entire limbs. And this man was human. Wasn’t he? Then again, maybe it was better she just didn’t think about it…

"Now… walk?" It was pretty obvious what to next. At least, she thought it was. Of course, this was also the man she was certain was slow. Or at least a little damaged upstairs. "You just have to be firm with them. Firm, but not mean. No one listens to a jerk.”

Even if dogs didn’t fall under her element - or anyone’s, really - all creatures deserved to be treated right.

Zagi did as told.  He stayed quiet until some of the dogs starting pulling on the leashes a bit to much.

"Hey!  If you rip off my good arm I’ll take off your heads!"

Mean and firm were the same thing when coming from Zagi.  His snapping made some of the dogs start to bark at him.  He yelled right back at them, arguing as if he thought they could understand him.  After a bit of yelling/barking back and forth, Zagi stopped.

"Oh I get it.  You’re bored!  So am I!  Hmm… You wanna run?  I wanna run too!  Maybe dogs aren’t stupid!  Dogs are cool!"

Now grinning, he turned to give Aqua a quick warning before running off, surrounded by a fluffy mob of canines.

"Either start running too or float fast!  We won’t wait up for fish people!"

How she'd managed to get in this situation, Aqua wasn't sure. She'd never exactly signed up for dog-walking, but if someone didn't go along, all the dogs might not make it back home. Even if they weren't hers... there was no reason to leave the poor animals defenceless. Still... someone with her appearance floating through the air would attract attention. She didn't need to be mistaken for a monster.

"Ugh... Humans are so frustrating." Growling, Aqua disappeared in a burst of bubbles, making travel and movement much easier. "You're ridiculous..." she muttered, her voice audible somewhere to the left of Zagi's head.

He shot the monster queen a glare.  If only there was still a swarm of hornets living in his hair to come out and attack her.  Sadly, the insects were long gone.

"Hey!  Not the hair!  I work hard on this look!"

Her warning seemed to go right over his head.  Either that or he just wasn’t intimidated by the thought of being attacked by hoards of monsters.  Zagi merely groaned in distaste of her description.

"That’s a stupid job!  So you sit in a cave and order animals around all day?  That’s even more boring than I thought!  I wouldn’t want to be a Centurion.  I couldn’t stand doing nothing but keeping the world in ‘balance’.  ‘Balance’ is lame.  I need something that gets my heart racing.  I’d rather tip the scale and let the world free-fall.  Don’t you think you’d have more fun that way?"

"No," Aqua answered bluntly. "I wouldn't."  She'd already experienced a world like that, and everything that had lead up to it and followed wasn't fun in the slightest. A peaceful world with the mana the way it was meant to be was best and safest. Anyone who thought otherwise was, well... He likely was a bit mad.

"I don't sit around all day at all - I can leave whenever and to wherever I want. I just like my shrine." Someone who seemed to enjoy chaos - that was just great. She'd met enough crazies when travelling with Richter to not want to deal with them anymore. She could only hope he wasn't the same type of crazy Mithos turned out to be. They really didn't need another one of those.

"If you want that, run a few marathons or join a coliseum. Don't bring that to others. People work hard to keep the world at pace." She knew that from experience - she herself had added to the chaos before. "What's with you, anyway? Killing innocent birds and threatening to slice people open? Calm down."

Zagi didn’t really understand, but he thought he did.

"Of coarse I know why.  I’m not stupid.  It’s because you look like them, you’re nice to them, and you’re probably strong enough to earn their respect.  Right?"

"I once had a flock of birds do the same thing.  They followed me around for a month.  One ended up craping on my hair, so I killed it, and the others all left me because of that I guess, so they don’t like me anymore.  But it was sort of the same thing while it lasted."

There was also that time a bunch of hornets made their hive/nest/thing in his hair when he was lost and injured in the woods for too long, and he couldn’t wash his hair because it was their home, but he didn’t mention it.  The last person he told that story too ran away because they thought he still had hornets in his hair.

"Because I... no!" Aqua scowled, tail lashing out to the side to sweep up the back of Zagi's head. "I don't look like them at all - and even if I did it wouldn't matter! They answer to me because I'm their master! That's what a Centurion is - a master of monsters." He really didn't need to know everything, but she could offer him the basics. 

"All aquatic monsters are mine - they listen to me and come if I call them as long as we have a contract." Granted, she'd not gotten all her monsters back just yet, but having travelled with Richter helped her get many of them back. It would take a while before she was back to the way she'd been before they'd all gone to sleep, still, she had enough to keep things in balance for the time being. "That's how we keep everything in balance - there are more Centurions than just me."

But... still, he'd killed a bird just because it pooped? Didn't he poop too? That was awful. Humans could be so ridiculous and cruel. "It isn't the same at all - I don't kill my monsters. I never would. I just contract with them to keep things in balance." She paused, frowning as she added in a warning tone, "That means they always listen to me. If I say attack, they will."

Zagi followed, looking over his shoulder at Aqua for a moment.  Why back there?  Oh, it didn’t matter.  They walked in silence for some time before he spoke up again.  He couldn’t stand for it to stay quiet.  That was too boring.

"So you just sit in here with a bunch of monsters all day?  I’d hate that.  I get bored too easily for that.  All the monsters would be dead and I’d be long gone.  Do your friends visit?"

Narrowing her eyes in distrust, Aqua's tone suddenly became icy as she spoke. "Don't you dare lay a hand on these monsters - they're all mine. As long as you don't try to hurt them, they won't attack you as long as I'm around." That was the downside of the situation. Ordering them all not to attack a human would make them uneasy, especially if there were more dangerous monster hunters in here somewhere. As long as she stayed near Zagi, they'd at least know not to attack him in particular.

"It isn't boring here at all!" That was a lie. It was boring, and lonely. She missed being able to roam the world with Richter, but, to her knowledge, he was still sealed away. Without the half-elven man - who seemed to just be a magnet for the boy -  finding Emil would have been next to impossible in such a large world by herself. "And the monsters are all my friends." She paused, a sudden thought surfacing in her mind. Most humans had never even heard of Centurions before. "Oh... I guess you wouldn't really understand why, huh?"

"I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many dogs at once…"

"Someone said if I walked the dogs he’d give me his macuahuitl.  You have no idea how hard to find those things are.  So.  Dogs."

"How’s it weird to you?  You’re a monster-person-halfbreed right?  Don’t you hang with animals all day?"

He looked down to his left hand, the one he was holding the leashes in.  He quickly did as she suggested, looking slightly panicked and muttering.

"Oh no I do NOT want it coming off AGAIN!"

He then looked back at Aqua for more instructions.  What, did he think she was the dog expert now?  Apparently.

"These ones are dummies too.  I hate animals.  Maybe…"

Zagi hesitated, beginning to think out loud.

"Maybe if I kill all the dogs… He never said I COULDN’T…"

He weighed the likelihood of him still getting the prize for a few moments.  He probably wouldn’t.  Aw man…  He fantasied about the beautiful weapon and his strength was renewed.

"I can deal with them!  So, any tricks you know for your dog-like creature?  To get it to- I don’t know- stop being annoying?"

If there was an easy way to get Tenebrae to stop being annoying, Aqua would have taken advantage of whatever it was on a daily basis. The spiteful Centurion of Darkness wasn't one to be controlled any easier than she was. Still, comparing him to actual dogs wasn't quite fair. After all, dogs like this usually had much cuter personalities.

"...I wish," she huffed, "Just be happy yours aren't spiteful creatures of the dark. Ones like that are the worst." Maybe she was being a little unfair, but Tenebrae deserved it for being a jerk more often than not. "Why don't you try splitting the leashes between two hands for a start? You're going to lose an arm if they take off holding them like that."

Good.  The woman with the nice name seemed to have gained some respect for him.  He wasn’t sure why, but he was happy with it.

"Lead me then.  Or point me in the direction.  Either will work."

He rested his hands on the holsters of his blades as he relaxed a bit.  Monster Aqua wasn’t as annoying as most monsters were.  Perhaps this wouldn’t be as bad as he’d thought it would.

At least he wasn't acting... creepy anymore. That was a good sign. At least, Aqua hoped it was. Usually it was when the weird ones were quiet that they were their most dangerous. At least she had plenty of strong minions to call forth if he decided to try anything. Hopefully it wouldn't come to damaging the temple...

"This place is a maze," she replied idly, pointing back toward the entrance from which he'd come. "I can't just point and hope you figure it out. You'll end up back here or food for the monsters." Then again, maybe that wasn't such a bad idea. Surely someone had to be hungry... But she'd save that for a desperate situation. As long as he didn't attack her, she wouldn't consider him a buffet for her contracts.

"Meri!" she called out, slashing her arm through the air. In front of them, a half-humanoid monster with pale violet skin appeared in a burst of bubbles. "Take the lead and show him back toward the exit. I'll follow from behind."

"Cen-tur-i-on," Aqua corrected in exasperation. How long would it be until this guy finally got it? It probably wasn't even worth the fight of trying to make him remember in the long run...

"And... I guess. My monsters are much better behaved than these guys, though." Her nose wrinkled in slight distaste, pulling her legs and tail up out of reach from the one nearest her. "I only ever really see one dog-like creature, and he's..." she huffed, arms crossed. "He's a dummy."
