Here’s the thing: authors know when they get a rec on an older story. There’s a telltale uptick of kudos (with a 10-15% comment rate if you’re lucky) in your digest email.

The thing is, there’s no way to know where these people are coming from. In the before, when fandom was more in the corners we all knew about, you could search LJ or a message board or whatever social bookmarking site we were using. You could join the community and participate.

You could get a little dopamine hit by seeing someone tell their friends why they loved your story.

Anymore, those recs are hidden in discords, or in tiktoks or instagram slideshows that you can’t search for. They’re inaccessible, not discoverable unless you’re already there. You may never know why 27 people left kudos on an old story of yours, what they liked and found in your writing. You just get the thumbs up and a kinda lonely feeling, cause these could be your people. You could like them, maybe. You could be friends.

But you’ll never find out why they stopped by, or what people are saying about you behind your back, and that’s sad.

So thank you to the people who still do public rec lists on this webbed site. You are my sunshine, and I’m appreciative of all of you.

Hello! I adore Into the Storm and your Helaena so much. However, I’m left wondering some things about the catalyst for the story, i.e., Aemond and Vhagar chasing her into the storm? Going off of show!canon, Helaena appears to be Aemond’s favorite sibling. Even reading Part I of Into the Storm, I still can’t understand why he would have so much animosity toward her in that scene just before the dragon chase. What was he reacting to? Her mere presence? Her engagement to Aegon? I’m still rather confused as to what his motivations behind endangering his sister were, especially since he likes her on a personal level and is sensitive to the fact that their mother’s faction would need all the manpower/firepower it could get in the form of him, his three full-blooded siblings, and their various dragons.

Text wise, we don't know what was said between Aemond and Helaena. The final chapter is from Vhagar and Dreamfyre's POV.

Vhagar sees Helaena and Aemond arguing, then Helaena shove Aemond. Vhagar sees her new rider, who's already been wounded get attacked again and decides to respond the way an ancient dragon that's burned cities would respond: turn Helaena into flambé.

We do see Aemond try to order Vhagar to stop and calm her, but Dreamfyre attacks while this is going on.

"Then there was a screech, despite being smaller Dreamfyre lurched in front of her rider, rearing up and breathing fire into Vhagar’s open jaw. The she-dragon was stunned for a moment, unused to being challenged. Her rider was on her back now, trying to soothe her. Whatever hesitation she had was gone now. Aemond was too weak a rider, and she was too great a dragon, to allow that attack to go unanswered. "

Vhagar decides she needs to teach both Helaena and Aemond a lesson.

We don't know what Aemond's thoughts were during this fight, and we're not meant to (yet).
