The nightmare's sky is evershifting, but the moon does not move. In my favored workspace, I keep an hourglass. A twelve-hour one fashioned for the measure of shelf-lives. In a journal beside it, I mark the days.

I've lost track, recently, on account of unprecedented circumstances. I cannot remember how long it has been since I've last turned it. It has been bothering me. Quite an amount.

it pains me that you view my correspondence with the intelligencer as betrayal. all that i had, i have given to you, and to mensis. i know that not every endeavor must bear fruit that benefits the individual, yet my stomach turns upon looking back. i hold no ill will towards you, or even what has been accomplished. i simply feel empty at the sight of it all. these are not the halls i adored. i crack under the weight of it all, and fear i will be washed away.

And know, dear scholar, that it pains me to be betrayed. Though, it is not your communication with the Chorister that ails me as much as a betrayal of yourself- to come apart is to be something more. To crack open is to free yourself from a shell, to be washed out to sea is to find something in its depths. You look back and ache because you are too afraid to look forward.

Quit this dithering and recall what you've been taught, by both myself and the failings of the church afore us- those who fear ascension will not grasp it. It is still within our reach. Courage, scholar, have courage.

your offer is most kind, but our meeting would be ill-advised, i fear. i find myself in an odd state, sanity ebbing and flowing as i retread these twisted grounds. in spite of my involvement with the very institution you infiltrated, i too am not immune to the frenzy so prevalent here. fear not prosecution, as my loyalties have long since wavered. still, i would be loathe to frighten you, should you stumble upon me in a state in a state less-than-sound. moreover, i would like to refrain from raising your hopes, as i happen to don white robes you would be so familiar with.

i, at the very least, shall offer you my name in compromise. in all likelihood, we never crossed paths, within mensis or otherwise, as my own studies were quite isolated, but it costs me nothing to share.

Marcel, This I understand quite well, no matter how it evokes a troubling grief to compartmentalize. It is an ugly thing, perhaps, the both of our states, and in retrospect, I am disinclined to seek the result of a double negative, no matter how I may want for a conversationalist aloud. It would be only selfish, and by all means, foolish, even, to further encourage something of such a fickle sort. Regardless, I would like to reiterate my appreciation. I must admit, too, that I am not entirely surprised to learn of your prior affiliations. I fear there is no longer room for persecution from either end - what we have known is naught but crumbling ruins now. "Alliances" are no longer so political as perhaps they once were, and I do not look down upon your allegiance just the same as I would not scorn myself, not at this point, no longer. I've been given no such thing, but there are old hunter's bells tucked somewhere in storage. The recent uptick in their appearances have convinced me not to go tuning them.

From what I know, eyes are planted on the brain to increase one’s insight, yes? Carrot is said to enhance eyesight and healthy fats like avocado and salmon are good for the brain. There is a predicament, however. Last time I checked, the eyes have a chemical that renders them inedible, and will induce sickness in humans. Again, I know that eyes on the brain specifically raises insight, although might one wonder if higher insight can be achieved through consumption? Not in the same sense as the healing church, of course.

Yes, yes, all that, in a simple sense I do suppose. If the church managed anything in advancement, it was their recognition that illness is not a roadblock as much as it is a caltroped- but quite necessary- path to revelation. Once you cease to fear it, many an opportunity will show itself to the bold.

...though, I digress, I cannot say I've had much in tbe way of success when it comes to consumption. Its about as wasteful as drinking blood, if you'd ask me. Implanted eyes have never had a promising life either, even when successfully managing to function amongst the host. The issue lies in that the eyes (in the literal sense, believe me, there are many other concepts that have come to be reduced to the term "eyes") required are of a different species than humanity, and they must be a young sort, still developing, to properly adapt.

Willem had that right, I do hate to admit. And I've miraculously lost access to the singular promising fetal tissue that may contain them, so, we are at an impasse as of now, and seeking other routes. (Thank you, o' nurse, dearly so.)

Sometimes I entertain the idea of relocating an eye of my own. Only sometimes.

I am judged continuously by forces that have less than no business doing so, this is nothing. These fleeting apparitions are little else than apparitions, projected by someone less occupied with greater things.

I will document an odd feeling of familiarity in them, though, that does manage (miraculously) to harken a shallow unease. Gods, this is nonsense regurgitated by what-knows-what.
