As the goddess of love, spring, and much more, weddings are like my whole thing. And then I realized how much weddings suck when you look further into it. So much sexism in...literally every little tradition. So I had to rehash the whole thing from scratch. Here you go. Weddings in my WR. This is highly unnecessary.
Disclaimer: A lot of these things are very much specific to my WR, especially considering that I'm the divine body of love and spring. you can take 'em if you want.
Ceremony Rituals : This is typically short and sweet.
Couples can paint flowers or symbols on each other. Or be pierced on opposite sides in lieu of rings (like if one gets one on the right side of their nose, the other might get it on their left).
The couple arrives in plain shoes, and during the ceremony will put a nicer pair of shoes on each other because that seems sweet.
Unity knots, planting a seed in a pot, and pouring sand in a vase together are common traditions.
Every guest brings a flower to make a wedding bouquet rather than just having a bridal bouquet; they put it in a vase or a basket before the ceremony. The couple keeps it afterward.
Instead of a ring bearer, the rings are brought up and passed through the wedding party as a marking of their blessing for the unity. They're then given to the spouse to then put on their beloved’s finger. So they'd get the other's ring and put it on them, if that makes sense.
Having a private moment together before the ceremony (with both celebrants not in their best yet bc first looks and all)
Getting ready together for a bit in the morning before breaking off is typical.
Both are escorted down the aisle by a parent rather than just the woman being given away.
Typically, I’d bless a wedding, but if it’s mine or I’m not available, Felix, my brother, will do it. If he’s walking me, however, my sister, Adrianna, will do it.
Instead of “I now pronounce you husband and wife”, it’s “I now pronounce you betrothed, you may now kiss.”
The reception: Longer, much funner
The couples braiding/doing each other’s hair in a simple style is common, and for shorter hair, clips are also common
The couple bakes something together during the reception (to see how well they can work together, and to enjoy creating something together) and they take the product home after
Wedding games !! Very nice, makes it fun.
To make it a dinner or not is up to the betrothed. But I like food, so.
The betrothed have the first dance. no parents
There’s no one wedding hairstyle at it entirely depends on the wearers hair type and preference common traditions, however, include
Couples each have one small braid in their hair with all manner of beads (see below), typically colored white, pearl, pink, or green. They keep it in for a few days afterwards to show they’ve just married. If the wearer wears braids or locs often, they’ll simply pick one to adorn, typically at the front. It’s not uncommon for this to be done during the ceremony.
Flowers in hair, especially tropical ones like hibiscus. Flower crown hair is popular for weddings. Like, crown braid and stick a bunch of flowers in it till you can’t see the braid. Can't explain it or find pictures
Both betrothed usually have makeup. Many put pearls or flowers on their faces.
Both wear white, as per tradition, commonly mixed with gold, green, pink, or silver elements. Rather than white meaning purity, it symbolizes that the couple has become one and become new people in this matrimony. And it’s pretty. This is most often mixed with other soft colors such as green, pink, silver, gold, blue, or yellow. These all symbolize something. I’ll figure it out. But very rarely is it just white unless it’s a god’s wedding (I would know.)
Wedding garb is also vaguely dependant on the preferences of the newlyweds, as the traditional clothes are quite similar anyway
Wedding parties wear a matching color scheme rather than all one color
mens wear and women's wear in weddings differs slightly but. not by enough to point it out.
other examples/mortals: these are less intricate obvi
Okay, so this is just kinda for aesthetic. Veils are also to protect the couple individually and as one. Women typically wear them on their heads and men on their faces, but like. No one really cares, anyone can wear anything. Those are the most common ways, however.
Instead of bride and groom, the newlyweds are referred to as "betrothed", the "couple," or something else idk.
Capias !! Given to invited guests to show they are welcome. Most people are, but those who are unwelcome, we will know. These are applied typically by a close friend or family member of the betrothed when each of the guests arrive.
Last names are typically hyphenated. And if the betrothed’s names are already hyphenated, they’d typically pick whichever pairing sounded best. No taking the male betrothed’s last name.
A lot of wedding traditions are based on me. There was a tradition where you’d pluck seventeen petals off a rose to avoid my bad luck. I’m not officiating that shit cause now we’re disrespecting my name AND my symbol. That’s considered way outdated, though.
The weddings are deeply centered in our culture and non-heteronormative.
Instead of Mr. and Mrs., it’s Mr. and Ms., but that’s really just formality and respect thing rather than a marriage thing. Miss is more associated with young adults and teenagers rather than an unmarried woman. no one really does the Mr. or Mrs. thing.
If you smash your betrothed’s face into the cake, I will personally kill you.
Celebrations are a big deal cause there’s a lot to be happy about. So if the whole wedding isn’t extravagant, something about it will be, like the cake, the dress, or just something. If anything, the cake. look like this.
guys. guys i got ahead of myself. anyways here. I'm on my getting married to my s/o kick rn. If you want, I can split this into two and add more detail or pictures, or go into my specific ceremony. idk. it still needs some work.
