Don't worry! The hard stuff with pass and writing will come back to you
I don't know if you're the same Nonnie, but thank you, regardless. š©·
Is this blog still active?
Yep. Just got a lot of stuff going on. I miss writing but it's been difficult for awhile now.
Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.Ā
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, youāll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post ā we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out ā stay tuned!
Let's talk about reblog notes.
We rolled out a significant change to how notes work on reblogs, and the reaction has been strong. We're not going to pretend otherwise.Ā
First things first: We're reversing the change. Your feedback in comments, emails, and especially reblogs, made clear that the rollout created problems we need to address before moving forward. We also should have communicated this differently from the start, and we didn't.
We still believe there's a better version of how reblogs can work. One that gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves. But we want to get there with you.
In the coming days we'll share more on how we plan to do that,Ā including ways to work directly with some of you on this and future changes before they ship.
Keep an eye on @staff for updates to come soon.Ā
HOLY SHIT WE DID IT EVERYONE!!!!
SQUEAKY FUCKING WHEEL GETS THE GREASE LET'S FUCKING GOOOOO
That said, while not to damper our celebration, the fight's not over yet.
Tumblr ownership has made it loud and clear that they do not understand the fundamental principles of this site.
They do not understand what it provides for artists and creatives and bloggers and fandoms. They do not understand that the site's infrastructure is not and will never be compatible with the business models of Twitter and Bluesky. The fact they're still arguing there's a "better version of reblogs" out there is indicative of that.
Reblogs are fine. No one was asking for fixes to rebolgs and notes. The way reblogs and notes worked before this change is the platform's greatest asset and the entire reason we use this site over all the other ones on the Internet. You are trying to fix something that is not even broken.
We need fixes to the content guidelines and systems that constantly flag posts that aren't violating any rules.
We need tangible non-invasive fixes to the filters that bots are constantly able to sneak past which allows them to bombard the site with spam, porn, and scams.
And most of all, we need fixes to staff oversight so that reports about these issues don't constantly get swept under the rug.
This is a symptom of a much bigger issue - Tumblr keeps implementing site-breaking changes that contradict the point of Tumblr without actually consulting or understanding their community first. They're constantly taking the "it's better to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission" route and it's destroying any trust and stability we have in the platform.
We need @photomatt and everyone who works for him @staff @changes to quit viewing Tumblr as a "failure" just because he keeps trying to force a Tumblr-shaped object into a Wordpress-shaped hole. He's completely devaluing and misunderstanding Tumblr's greatest strengths as a community-driven platform and until he does - or until he sells the platform to someone who can - he and his company that oversees Tumblr's development will keep making the same mistakes.
We don't need an adjustment of the reblog system or the core aspects of what makes Tumblr unique. We need an adjustment of the attitudes that are failing to see those aspects and undermining them at every turn.
Tumblr is not Twitter. Tumblr is not Bluesky. Tumblr is not Wordpress. And it never will be. That is not a failure. That is the point.
Since some of you don't seem to understand how this 'new notes' thing works, I'll break it down:
I'm the OP. I'm making this post. If you like, comment, reblog (without comment) on this post, then I'm the one who will see all those notes in my activity page.
However...
If you reblog (with comment), I will get a notification that you did that, but any likes/comments/reblogs (without comment) you get on that reblog will only be shown to you. As OP I won't see them.
If someone adds a reblog (with comment) to your reblog...as OP I won't see that. I won't see any of those notes in my activity page.
Basically, if someone with a large following makes a comment, then they will get all the notes and OP will see nothing. If OP has said something silly because they're, y'know, 21 and it happens, and then someone reblogs it onto the dash of someone with a large following who then dunks on them for fun? OP doesn't see it, doesn't get notes for it, but they're gonna get the harrassment for it in their inbox.
If I, someone with a 5 digit follower count, reblog something to correct misinformation on Ancient Egypt, then OP will never see it unless it was on the original post, but I will continue to get notes on that post even though it's not my post. If I reblog fanart, or just art in general, with a comment like 'Oh this is so lovely!' then OP will not see any of the notes from people reblogging it from me. They'll only see my reblog. So it's possible for an art post by someone else to have 200 notes for them, but 9000 for someone who reblogs it with a comment, and the OP artist will have no idea it's been seen by that many people.
It's killing blow to the community we've built here, by someone higher up who doesn't understand that being able to see all the comments and reblogs is what makes this site the place I keep coming back to.
That's what sucks.
I encourage people to go to tumblr's support page, select contact support, and then in the dropdown menu select 'Feedback' and leave polite and constructive feedback (for those of you who enjoy 'emails worded politely but are a strong 'are you an idiot?', try that way of wording it). They're more likely to listen to you if you're not an asshole about it. I've already gone and done this, and I hope others will too.

This is horrible I can't see the number of notes on my posts at all without adding up everything in the chain
Cursed cursed cursed evil evil evil
This is a terrible idea. Horrible.
EXTREMELY BAD HOLY FUCK.
This would kill the entire point of the reblog chain. Staff, please, don't do this. It will transform the reblog chain in just plain twitter quotes.
Seriously, this is a tumblr-killer feature. This breaks the most fundamental way tumblr is different from any other social network. This makes tumblr just another blueskytwitterthreads. Or worse: An unfederated mastodon clone.
Please, stop this. Please, don't roll this out.
Please, mutuals, post about this, comment and reblog the original post (while you still can without making it your own quote-post). I don't know if staff is looking or if the feedback would matter, but seriously, this is a terrible change that would kill tumblr as we know it. Please, don't roll it out.
look, I can endure any kind of UI changes that are supposed to help tumblr-rookies to understand how this works. They may be a nuisance, but that's ok, we have x-kit or we can get used to buttons being here or there.
But this. This changes the data architecture. This changes the SINGLE THING that makes tumblr the "... yes and" website. This KILLS THE COLLABORATIVE POSTING THAT MAKES THIS SITE DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER MEDIA PLATFORMS.
Please, don't do this. Please, don't ship this.
Tumblr has explicitly said in the past that they do not look at comments on their updates posts. You have to PUT IN A SUPPORT TICKET AND SELECT FEEDBACK FROM THE DROPDOWN
Find support resources and documentation for Tumblr
The only problem I can think of that this was designed to address is notifications from viral posts. Yes, it is a little annoying at times when a post pops off and you get notifications for weeks and weeks and weeks on end from the same post.
This is not the solution to that.
Better notification filter settings would have solved that problem, putting the solution in the hands of individual users instead of ruining the fundamental aspect of the website for everyone.
If that wasn't what Tumblr was trying to address with this change... then your guess is as good as mine, but literally no one was asking for it. It's solving a problem that does not exist.
Take a note from Valve, Tumblr. No one was asking for an adjustment to the mechanics of your website that has made up the backbone of said website for years. No one was asking you to reinvent your own wheel. Right now you're treating Tumblr like a zit that you keep picking at - you're not making it better, keep your hands to yourself and leave it the hell alone.
Coming back from the dead to reblog this to spread awareness.
It's very crucial to give the staff feedback about this if we don't want this feature to be implemented. Like the previous posts have said, continue sharing and reblogging this post and most importantly, please let the staff know!!
Howās the next unloved beloved part goin?
Currently, the tumblr post for the second part is collecting dust since I keep rewriting the sequel. My friend and I worked out a skeleton outline for the story and right now Iām working out the details.
Honestly, the biggest gripe that I have with the story is how many things am I gonna change in this AU and how much do I want to have certain characters involved.
Though, after the second part comes out, Iāll focus on making some quizzes and maybe writing something for Panty & Stocking among other fandoms.
Hello!! I just wanted to say that your writing is just amazing and that i love your LMK fic to pieces!! There's little to no Xiang Liu content in the fandom, so seeing him here and with the way you write him is just a jackpot! He's really such an interesting character from what was revealed about him in season 5, only having just about 10 minutes of screen time, and yet we got a lot from him! You also really just capture the tragedy of the whole situation, before and after dissappearance of y/n really really well! it's overall just- *chefs kiss* It's so sad and angsty and just so very well written. I'm so excited to see what else you have in store! š
I was wondering, do you have a set plan for how you want the fic to go? As in a full idea of the story? Like i know you have plans ahead and have talked about what's next- and this isnt meant to cause offense, be rude, or rush you! I dont wanna give off the wrong vibe on accident! :,D im just very curious- anyways I hope that you are doing well, have a good day/night!!
Hi-hi! Thanks for sending in this incredibly polite message, it really brightened up my day.
Iām really glad that you liked my story, itās been so long since Iāve written anything (maybe like later 2016? 2017?) so the warm reception from everyone was mind-blowing.
Now, to answer your question: I do have a general direction in which I wanna take this story. Iāve been making a skeleton outline for it with the help of my friend. Thereās still some events and details that I need to figure out if I want for Beneath the Serpentās Skinās ending to make sense.
Since Iām getting back to writing and Iām planning to take it more seriously, for now Iām thinking for Beneath the Serpentās Skin to have 4 more chapters, ultimately 5.
Itās not a final decision since Iām still having fun with writing out some concept ideas and Iām not sure if theyāll make the cut.
For now, I wanna make sure to get the characterisation right and like you said, we only got so much of Xiangliuās short appearance, that Iām having a bit of trouble.
All that being said, I feel guilty for not being active on this blog. My main reason for not posting much is that Iād feel bad if Iād focused on another idea tied to different fandom while BTSS is what everyoneās here for. Iāve also been having trouble with my keyboard so itās been a drag to write at all, amongst other stuff thatās going on in my life.
Still, thank you all so much for being patient with me. : )
Ramble incoming :Hello, ive read your 'beneath the serpent's scales ' au and i am enjoying it a lot. Id assume growing up with Xianglu would be a big adjustment. Mostly because of the freedom he'd allow Y/N to have. I think he'd be fine with whatever new experiments they'd try as they rediscovered themselves. Like maybe they dyed thier hair the same shade of green and styled it in a way that mimicked his snakes . Maybe they pick up his habit of being able to manipulate and fool people too ,as well as way of fighting. As time goes on i think Y/N would end up hating Wukong and Macaque but not Mk, Never Mk. They miss him somtimes but they dont want to give up the freedom Xianglu gave them and besides he's a better parent then Wukong and Macaque ever were to them.
Im imagining the next meeting between the 4 of tgem. With Yn with thier new dad gleefully helping him with his plan. Excited to witness the chaos with him.
Wukong and Macaque cant believe thier eyes, that's thier kid. Sure its been a few decades but they couldn't forget thier first child. But it looks like they have forgotten them (they haven't, they just dont care for them anymore) and thier so .. different from the attentive and obedient child they knew. The young adult in front of them was loud, chaotic , manipulative and an adaptive fighter.
I think Xianglu would tell yn of Mks original purpose when they're old enough and they believe thier dad when he tells them his plan is for tye best. Hiw could they not? He's been thier for them and treated them much better then Wukong and Macaque ever did.
Id assume the two of them would forcibly kidnap them back if the gentle approach didnt work. Xianglu wouldn't let that happen however.
It all culminates in a interaction where yn just straight up tells the 2 of them they hate them and choose Xianglu as thier dad and walks back to his side, leaving thier past behind them.
I really like the fact that everyoneās impression that one way or another, Xiangliu would somehow effect Readerās appearance.
I personally always liked the idea if Reader grew their hair out, Xiangliu would help them in braiding it. Though ultimately, Readerās appearance remains up to you guys to imagine however you want.
That said, I appreciate you sending in this ask! Iām glad to know you enjoyed my story so much. : )
Coming back from the dead to ask, if I were to make RP quizzes on Quotev for different fandoms, would you guys mind me promoting them on this blog? I'll make a separate tag for the quizzes exclusively, so you could easily filter it out if it bothers you.
I'd actually be interested to try out the quizzes, so I'd appreciate the promo!
As long as there's tag for it so it can be filtered out, I'm neutral on it.
I'd appreciate the tag for filtering it out, since I'm just here for stories.
Hi! A random anon here, I really love your fic and Time's fics, and DUDE I re-read the first chapter of your story and now I can't help but think of the ANGST plaguing the monkey family after Reader's disappearance (I YAPPED A LOT, SORRY o_o;):
I can imagine Wukong and Macaque (and eventually MK too when he gets old enough) just... hoarding Reader's things, like an old plush; crayon drawings of their childhood or sketchbooks of more advanced drawings; any images of their kid, in fear of forgetting their face; hunting for any recordings in cameras to remember their voice (and then grieving over the fact of not using such technology to capture their human child's life more back when they could)... even homework, maybe, to remember their lost child's handwriting. Items that back then would be eligible to be thrown out later after too much use becoming almost sacred, holding pieces of Reader's once-present existence in them.
If it's already common for humans to forget past memories and events, then imagine how worse it must be for two immortal, long-living beings? The silent threat of time and fading memory being even stronger than for any mortal, the threat of forgetting their first child, adopted, wanted even if not theirs by blood, all because of how much time would pass? The fear of just... forgetting they even existed at all?
It'd be such a double-edged sword, because they'd only then realize how little Reader had to themselves; how little Wukong and Macaque had given them compared to MK, and now it comes to bite them back when the only thing they get to remember their missing child by being a few measly hand-me-downs and old items; the desperation of preserving memorabilia of their child only to feel grief when realizing that's all of them that's left.
Please donāt apologise for rambling Nonnie, Iām very happy and honoured that you left such passionate rant about my story in my inbox! I absolutely love it.
I do apologise for not responding earlier, I was thinking about this ask A LOT.
While I canāt give away any plans for the sequel, I want to let you know that you gave me some new ideas that I wanna consider throwing in the next chapter.
So, thank you so much for sending in this ramble in. ā¤
Iām doing good! Still super hyped for the fic. I have so many thoughts I have no thoughts, you know?
-š©
Iām glad to hear you're doing good. While Iām still not sure when the second chapter will come out as Iām planning out new details for the story, I do think youāll like the direction that itās heading in.
Nothing to say so
*sits politely*
-š©
Itās good to hear from you, lovey. Hope youāre doing good. ā¤ļø
Lmfao y/n who went from one or two kisses a week to like. 9 daily has gotta be a bit of a shock.
-š©
Them being kidnapped by their āimaginary friendā and then given all attention and affection 24/7 certainly wasnāt on Readerās bingo card.
Worst thing abt Xiangliu being ur dad is everytime he tucks you in every. Single. Snake. Has to give you a kiss before he can let you sleep.
-š©
I had to find a picture of Xiangliuās other form just to check how many snakes there were. The answer was eight.
The idea of Reader being bombarded with eight small kisses over their face is very adorable, but theyād probably also be so baffled and overwhelmed at the sudden wave of affection that came unexpectedly.
You just lay there in your bed, blinking in surprise quietly, while Xiangliu wishes you sweet dreams, along with the eight of his conscious snakes that seemed to adore you just as much as he does. If you love physical affection, you practically won a lottery with this one!
Ok where do I even begin for questions oh lawrd this concept has been festering in my brain for ages..
(Realized I have been frothing at the mouth for a fic of a character who I havenāt even met yet in my viewings of the show)
Is it too much of a spoiler to ask if Y/N stays human or if they get snake-if-ied? One of the most compelling things abt the original story was the dichotomy of like. Y/N is a normal, boring human, who gets overlooked because of their perceived inferiority. Does that change? Are they molded by their new father, only to look in the mirror, marveling at their own now alive hair, and thatās the moment where they subconsciously adopt the idea that humans are inferior, that that was the ONE thing holding them back? When they finally meet their old fathers, who they were never good enough, do they shout and yell at their horrified faces: Iām finally like you! Why isnāt that good enough!?
Sorry if this is like. Unhinged Iām writing this when Iām oh so sleepy.
-š©
Okay, okay lovey, I see you! This is a really good question to ask and donāt worry, itās not much of a spoiler to answer. In short, my plan for Reader is to stay human. There is a specific route that I wanna go for when it comes for their character and the whole story, which includes them keeping their humanity.
I like the idea of Reader moving the story forward while they stay the way they are. Granted, when it comes to Xiangliu, I donāt think heād encourage them to change themselves in order to appease to their dadsā flawed preference; quite the opposite, heād already accept them as they are. He was an avid watcher of their familyās dynamics, after all.
But donāt you worry. Sun Wukong and Macaque will be confronted by an upset Reader. They deserve to be heard, one way or another. : )
