Leaders are made, not Born

Article 2:

Leadership is the ability to adapt the setting to so everyone feels empowered to contribute creatively to solving the problems. Not all persons can be leaders and can possess this type of ability. Leaders can be pertaining into different situations, for example, political leaders and community leaders. To give you a simple description of leadership, there is a follower and the one that guides. A leader is a person who guides the group in times of uncertainties, takes the courage to decide, and accepts the challenge to lead. I am now here to present my stand that leaders are not born, they are made.

A single person is born with traits and talents of a great leader, if he renounces the concept of growth and development, a barren and infertile leadership rises. A leadership without enhancement and improvement is like a tree in time of autumn, it is fruitless and only for display. Every leader needs to be deemed that they are worth following. Leadership is a set of skills that can be learned by training, perception, practice, and experience overtime. Leadership learning is lifetime activity. Good leaders seek out development opportunities that will help them learn new skills. Yes, there are people born with inherited qualities and traits of a leader but they do not deliver to what the followers want. According to Hujo Heji, “True leaders ensure they continue to develop their leadership skills throughout their careers, through learning and development materials and activities.” Being this type of person will come into a formal process or way. One element to be an effective leader is having the experience. The experience that will help you to lead a group for a long-term. Knowing what to do in this kind of situation, what to not do in this situation will develop your ability to lead even further. A leader is authentic, a genuine leader cannot be faked nor acted, it ascends by choice. Genetics and Heredity will not supply you moral standards and set of ideals that will make you a great leader but your growth and progress as a person will.

A trainee-soldier was once trained, he experienced hardships, encountered downfall and now he is general. A follower learned how to listen, discovered how to sacrifice, found out how to lead and now he is a leader, a leader made not by genetic makeup but through the by-product of experience and development. As I reach the end-point of my spiel, a leader continuously learning will be successful in the future. This is my stand that leaders are not born, they are made.

                               Globalization and its Effects

The art was made by the group of Cyra Marie Balderosa. The artwork uses the theme of Politics and Social Order, specifically about Globalization. In the artwork, it is confusing at first glance since most of the elements are not upright, from there, it is suggested to look at the artwork from 2 different perspectives so that inverted elements of the artwork could be seen upright. But before rotating the art itself, the usage of two ambiguous perspective has its purpose- showing the effect of globalization is two-fold. When the two heads of the artwork are upright, it shows to sides: the Lowcal and the Colonial being overseer by each different humans. Lowcal actually pertains to the locally made products, the elements below it are a field for farming, a fish, and a hand grasping a paper bills: this symbolizes our fellow Filipino men doing some honest work of manual labor in order to gain money, but because of some Filipinos being divided by a colonial mindset, the lowcal side are severely being punished and therefore revolting by showing a clenched fist with paper bills against the other fist clenching a bloodied machete. And thus the bottom area of this perspective of the artwork wherein it’s all black and white pertains to the ruin and woe it brought. So in conclusion, this perspective shows the downside of colonialism in the Philippines as the Filipinos themselves are suffering caused by themselves who have colonial mentality. In the other perspective, wherein the buildings and other elements are upright, it shows the positive side of globalization, the world wherein it has achieved prosperity. The hands shaking in the middle in front of a blank globe represents a trade between two people, hence the theme globalization. The paper bills in the middle symbolizes the economic attribute of globalization, the paper bills are in the middle to show its neutral effect in globalization, because as we all believe that money is the root of all evil, but can also be a tool for prosperity. But before a country, or possible the world reaches its golden age, it must first undergo through hard times to create strong men that will constitute an orderly world, that is why each element in the artwork are individually framed inside a cog that represent each profession or at least a person’s job, has its own functions in order to keep their world running and developing. In addition to that, blue lines could be observed leading towards the center of the artwork, and showing an arrow going through the area of the negative side of globalization and back to the positive side of globalization wherein it leads to the buildings of a city, implying that the effects of globalization is actually good; but the Filipinos must first understand that hardships comes first before we reached prosperity regardless of what the hindrances will be.

My Mother and Siblings

I was never a good son nor a sibling. Still, they always loved me. This pride of mine is keeping me distant from them that I never showed that I cared or loved them. I make grave mistakes and I always been immature to them. Even so, they still cared. I always depend on them because of my selfish problems. Even, so they still helped. Why is it so hard to show my true feelings to them?. I just want to say that I’m sorry to all the things that I’ve done and said. I want to change, it is never too late. I hope someday my true feelings would reach you guys. You are really one of the most important of my life and I cherish you all

I thought to myself back then, If I was ever alone in my life, will I ever survive?. To be tough and independent, it is what I needed back then. But then I realized, it was never like that. As I grow up, I meet a lot of persons. With unique personalities and different perspectives. Just like that, a simple talk would make me attached to them. Whenever I am down, they were always there. Whenever they are down, I am there for them. They make my life so much exciting and very eager to live with it. Helped me developed as a person and taught me so many things. Thankful, that they really came to my life.

Taking College Exams and Enrolling in PUP

When college admission test are upcoming in October, November and December, I was pressured because this will depend on my desired career or my dream. First, I took the test at National University. My mother said that I should take many college admission test to gather numerous choices if my main priority fails, which is UP or PUP. Eventually, I passed the test at National University but I wasn’t happy. Second, I took the test at FEU technology which I am a walk-in and I am satisfied because I got a scholarship. Third, the most awaited test at UP. It is one of the most difficult tests I have ever took and I told myself that I am not expecting any from this. Lastly, I took them exam at PUP. I was overwhelmed because there is so many students that took the admission test here. After several months, the PUP website released the list of passers and I am so happy and my mother that when I searched my name, it is displayed as “Qualified”. Also, the UP released the list of passers and as expected I didn’t pass but I was happy the I passed PUP. At May 20, I lined up at the enrollment and it was a nightmare because I would attend three hours before the expected time and the I waited for at least 3 hours for every step. I took Computer Science as my degree program, so surprised, I was the last one registered at BSCS 1-2. A long journey full of hardships, trials, decision-making, anxiety, and hard work. I am proud to become a part of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
