Witchcraft : Pen Pal Edition
I love pen pals. The art of handwritten letters and little special gifts seems like such a thing of the past. Now that everyone is just an instant message away, sending a fun little gif to a friend across the world seems like the logical and least time consuming way to let someone know you’re thinking about them. But I personally love a messy handwritten letter with the faint coffee ring stain from their morning cup they had while taking a few minutes to write me. Or the little rock they found by the a river they just discovered that made them think of me because of that one time I mentioned a childhood memory of a camping trip by the river. Or the 50 cent gumball machine ring they got on their trip to the beach as a little “wanted to give you a piece of my memory too” trinket.
These a some of my most prized possessions. But I don’t have very many witchy pen pal friends. Most of my pen pals now are people I knew in childhood or older people who still enjoy the simple pleasures of writing and receiving a handwritten note. My grandma and I used to send each other letters too but she passed away earlier this year.
So I wanted to share with you all somethings I would send (and would love to receive), as a witch, in snail mail to witchy friends.
🌱 Seed Paper : There’s this really cool paper that you can bury and a plant will grow. It’s called seed paper. You can DIY it yourself or purchase it already made. Of course, my personal opinion, I think making it gives it that extra bit of magic and personal touch but if you do plan to buy it consider buying some handmade from Etsy.
🌻 Plant Clippings : Is it obvious that I really like plants yet? Lol. Plant clippings are fun if you’re sending a little care package via snail mail. It’s a way to gift a little piece of your home to your pen pal.
🌿 Pressed or dried flowers / herbs : You can include a little envelope of dried herbs or pressed flowers for you pen pal to use later in their spells or rituals. I love putting these in tiny envelopes because it’s usually just enough to use for 1 or 2 small spells and they can keep it in their Book of Shadows or journal.
🍂 Rocks / Stones / Fallen Leaves : I’m always collecting these things when I’m just out and about. Especially if I’m out in nature with the intentions of enjoy it (like a camping trip or hike) and I know I’m gonna wanna share it with my pen pal. Hag stones or witches stones are one of my favorite things to gift my witch friends. I try to collect things that I know my pen pal might have trouble getting on their own. Like if they live in a more urban area they probably aren’t spending a lot of time in the mountains and would really appreciate some mountain rocks.
🐿️ Acorns : I could have included this in with the first one but I looovvee sending little acorns. Their magical attributions include luck, protection and healing among other things. I love sending a bit of luck :) I think we all have our things, and mine is acorns lol.
🐚 Sea Shells : This is something I love getting from my witch friends because I’m a few hours out from the ocean and I haven’t even been to the ocean in like 15 years! So this is definitely something you could share with your witch friends / pen pals who don’t have access to them.
Other DIY & Handmade Ideas
📚 Spell Kit : Include all the ingredients they’d need to do one of your favorite spells. This is fun for little spells that only need a small candle and a little bit of a dried herb. You could include a handwritten spell card they can add to their BoS with the spell and instructions on it.
🍒 Recipe Cards : Handwritten recipe cards with your favorite recipe. This is a super simple one but one of the most meaningful. Especially if you’re both from different background, areas and cultures. It’s so fun and new to try new food. This would be great for Samhain; share a recipes from your dumb supper.
☕ Your Favorite Tea(s) : Mine is Blueberry! Btw lol. Share a few different teas, included a little about why you love them. Another simple, but meaningful, gift to include.
