Don't.
The idea of being different is all around us. Everyone wants to "be different"...to a certain extent. Everyone hopes to live a life that makes a mark on this world and makes an impact above and beyond all they could have hoped for. The question is: What kind of person leaves a mark in this world that lasts more than a lifetime?
Some will say: "No. I don't want a life that speaks. I want a nice quiet one, you know, one that fits the norm."
Those people are the ones who deep down desire the direct opposite. A life that not only speaks, but one that influences. Because in essence, everyone's life to some extent, speaks. What does yours say?
"Hatred stirs up trouble, but love forgives all wrongs."
Proverbs 10:12
"WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?"
Others May, You Cannot
If God has called you to be really like Jesus He will draw you into a life of crucifixion and humility, and put upon you such demands of obedience, that you will not be able to follow other people, or measure yourself by other Christians, and in many ways He will seem to let other people do things which He will not let you do.
Other Christians and ministers who seem very religious and useful, may push themselves, pull wires, and work schemes to carry out their plans, but you cannot do it, and if you attempt it, you will meet with such failure and rebuke from the Lord as to make you sorely penitent.
Others may boast of themselves, of their work, of their successes, of their writings, but the Holy Spirit will not allow you to do any such thing, and if you begin it, He will lead you into some deep mortification that will make you despise yourself and all your good works.
Others may be allowed to succeed in making money, or may have a legacy left to them, but it is likely God will keep you poor, because He wants you to have something far better than gold, namely, a helpless dependence upon Him, that He may have the privilege of supplying your needs day by day out of an unseen treasury.
The Lord may let others be honored and put forward, and keep you hidden in obscurity, because He wants to produce some choice fragrant fruit for His coming glory, which can only be produced in the shade. He may let others be great, but keep you small. He may let others do a work for Him and get the credit for it, but He will make you work and toil on without knowing how much you are doing; and then to make your work still more precious He may let others get credit for the work which you have done, and thus make YOUR REWARD TEN TIMES GREATER WHEN JESUS COMES.
The Holy Spirit will put a strict watch over you, with a jealous love, and will rebuke you for little words and feelings or for wasting your time, which other Christians never feel distressed over. So make up your mind that God is an Infinitely Sovereign Being, and has a right to do as He pleases with His own. He may not explain to you a thousand things which puzzle your reason in His dealings with you, but if you absolutely sell yourself to be His love slave, He will wrap you up in Jealous Love, and bestow upon you many blessings which come only to those who are in the inner circle.
Settle it forever, then that you are to DEAL DIRECTLY WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT, and that He is to have the privilege of tying your tongue, or chaining your hand, or closing your eyes, in ways that He does not seem to use with others. Now, when you are so possessed with the living God that you are, in your secret heart, pleased and delighted over this PECULIAR, PERSONAL, PRIVATE, JEALOUS GUARDIANSHIP AND MANAGEMENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT OVER YOUR LIFE, then you will have found the vestibule of Heaven.- George Watson
Why adversity?
Many people wonder why it is we go through though times and situations. I certainly do.
Sometimes, as Christians, we seem to assume that we go through tough times because God is either trying to dscipline us or we simply need to learn a specific lesson. Loneliness is yet another aspect that I am still having to come to grips with. Why we go through spells of loneliness and how that helps to train us to become better images of Christ...
But it seems as though where ever I turn and whoever I talk to all say the same thing: God is close to those who suffer and wants to draw ever closer to you.
My dad reminded me of an ever important truth which was that Christ Himself went through loneliness on this earth. It wasn't easy for Him to humble Himself to the level of man and die a criminal's death to secure our eternal Hope and life with Him. There must have been times where He also felt the weight of His call unbearable, especially the days leading up to the cross. I think though that the most powerful words He said in this context was: "Yet not as I will, but as You will" (Mat 26:39)
Jesus realized that it wasn't what he wanted which counted but what His Father wanted. And because of His suffering He altered the course of history once and for all.
When I look at what He did and the characteristics He portrayed I stand in awe and pray that somehow I would be able to become more and more like Him. But becoming more like Him means being ready to face trials and persecution because otherwise our faiths would be shallow.
I was driving home tonight and couldn't really see the road ahead of me that well so I kept trying to look ahead, straining my eyes to try and see which way the road would turn and every time I did that the car went out of its lane and I had to quickly swerve to get back in line.
Walking with God is kind of like driving at night on a dimly lit road. The more you try and focus ahead the more prone you are to losing control of your vehicle. The more time you spend focusing on what the distant future holds the higher the chance you have of jeopardizing the very present before you.
Don't worry

"When this age finishes and countless millions fall on their faces, missions will be no more. Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. "
