i'm sorry to be bitchy but i was like damn i miss hongbin idk what that guy is up to at all now that i don't use twitter so i went to look at some tweets from the like one person who posts hongbin translations and i'm disappointed but not surprised to see starlights are somehow still fighting the war on plagiarism that was already stupid two months ago when the plagiarism in question actually happened
I closed my account there because most of the things became pointless. Fandom supposedly should create something, translation, fanarts, fanfics, catalogue but all this was being watered down by people from inside the fandom more focused in beating old allegations 24/7 and nothing else.
They do, you guys just don’t speak Portuguese. Log onto Brazilian internet right now and you will see Portugal getting torched on the regular
A Portuguese person can’t even breathe on the internet without Brazilians spamming “GIVE BACK OUR GOLD!!” in the comment section. If a reel or a tiktok of a person speaking European Portuguese goes viral, you best believe there are Brazilians in the comments talking about how they can’t understand the video because it’s in “European Brazilian”. Even a random tweet or meme that’s clearly written in European Portuguese gets roasted to hell and back by Brazilians, even if it has absolutely nothing to do with us.
Trust me, when it comes to hating on Portugal Brazilians are pulling our weight AND MORE
Same with spain. I've also seen anglos complain that spain doesn't get as much shit as the british empire for colonialism. We do give them a ton of shit for it, you guys just pretend things don't happen unless someone else goes out of their way to present them in English for your benefit.
Ainda Estou Aqui (2024) Dir. Walter Salles
After seeing that shitty frenchamerican movie about mexicans without mexicans in the main cast winning so many awards im glad Brazil winned this! I dont even care about oscar, this is HUGE!!!!
"I'm still here" isnt just a random film. It is about the military dictatorship, which on the contrary of countries like Argentina and Chile, Brazil didnt punished most part of the people that did and colaborated for all the deaths, crimes and opressions, and many families still and probably wont ever know where their family members were "buried/disposed".
And not only historic value and resistance against military coups (which are a constant threat with the rise of extreme right in Brazilian politics and military), this is a win for the lack of support and acknowledgement brazilian cinema has, by our own government and by gringos, that keep on pretending the world is just hollywood and some few european countries
My position is that gringo awards arent the reason we make films. But it does help a lot. It attracts investment, international film companies, something continents like latin america doesnt have compared to japan, korea, china, india and european countries own independent film and shows productions, so much they even have prestigious relevant cinema and tv show awards season.
