the shock that comes from dick’s eyes wasn’t born out of the realization that someone else was up and about at the current time. in fact, he knew that several yards away at the other end of the beach, there were other people. a family, it had looked like, some brothers that practically looked like REPLICAS of one another, all having the time of their life. their parents were somewhere and if the time wasn’t so late, it would’ve been almost normal. the point being: something had turned the life of much of the island upside down.
but, as far as he could tell, no one really had a WORD FOR IT. his nightmares were incredibly strange but given his weird eating habits, he frequently had strange dreams. so, this didn’t quite worry him. he was about to walk by the only other person around when he heard him speak and one glance was all it took to see the glimmer in his hands, “oh boy. is that for me ? talk about taking someone out.” probably not. but, he couldn’t really fault anyone for being so cautious.
“i don’t think anyone sleeps anymore, quite frankly.” dick half-shrugged. he worked often through the night, himself, that was the cost of business. whenever qi’ra needed him, he had to be wherever she asked. “you good ?”
Loki immediately feels suspicious of the man, though that's not really a surprise -- He didn't really trust anybody, truthfully.
The reaction to the dagger had been seemingly less surprised than his own, nonchalant enough to immediately if he's okay right after he'd basically threatened him. "I suppose." Feeling awkward with the dagger still in his hand, he shifts on his feet, eyes focused on the sidelines rather than the stranger in front of him.
He doesn't know how to answer the question, because he wasn't good. Nothing about this was cool. A dagger was just summoned from seemingly out of nowhere, but he was not going to make himself seem crazy. "I-" He pauses, stumbling over a lie for the first time in his life. "Things could be better."
