Welcome! Come on in, don’t be a stranger! They don’t bite! (Assuming you aren’t dressed in a lab coat or grabpack…)
It’s been way too long since they’ve seen someone new so most of them are just dying to be gracious hosts. The others are…Well they’ll try at least. Feel free to stay a while and ask a few questions.
Poppy’s PlayPlace:
Welcome to the funnest, most colorful, craziest place you’ve ever been! The world of PlayTime co welcomes you to make a home in the ToyBox with all your cuddly friends. There’s never a dull moment here friend.
Rules:
These are AUs! All asks complaining about inaccuracy will be ignored. You can ask questions but chances are you’ll confuse them but it’s worth a shot right?
For now I will not allow lewd asks. Most of the characters are minors. Maybe one day I’ll accept those asks for the adults but not at the moment.
If you do not clarify which AU you are asking I will either make an answer for both or pick a random one. Same goes for not clarifying who you’re asking.
Here’s a little system I came up with so you know when an answer or event is or even if they’re taking place. One of these symbols will be in the lower corner of the answer pick.:
Hey look! I’m talking about my Factory AU for once!
I don’t remember if I mentioned this before but I really should explore the fact that Jacklyn was the only parent toy that the workers didn’t manage to separate from her child and put in cryostasis.
Boxy Boo just saw them take BoomBam away and was like “You’re not touching my Mama!”
Which, the only reason they gave up was because her box is fairly heavy. Why bother it’s not like she’s going anywhere herself.
I guess that’s the biggest reason my Boxy Boo is so different. He’s the most well put together compared to others because he got to keep one parent to do her best to make sure he didn’t completely loose his little mind.
They’d tell each other jokes and play games to pass the time. She’d hold him and sing to him to help him sleep. Help him remember important things like reading and writing by taking scraps of paper, pens and other stuff left behind after ‘meals’. Just try to do other things they used to do as humans.
She wouldn’t really show herself to the staff, hiding in her box and sneakily watch them as they interacted with Boxy, ready to snatch them up if they tried to hurt him. Since they were afraid of him and he was the traitor disposal nothing ever happened so new staff didn’t even know she existed.
When the Hour of Joy happened I can imagine Boxy participating, having the time of his life. Sees BoomBam Wham charge down the hall after a cluster of scientists and Box skips over to Jacklyn screaming “Dad’s back! I Saw him! I told ya Dad was coming back!”
Olivia and GummiGoo!
Where to start with these two?
Olivia studied ghosts of many times and developed inventions to help capture spirits ethically so she could help them process their trauma and move on. On one of her trips to find some extremely difficult to find souls she ran into her husband GummiGoo.
I haven’t figured everything out but years later Pomni runs into Gummi, and they seem to get along really well! However…Pomni seems to notice some very odd things about this toy gator…(Yes he’s a toy, not a candy.)
Surprise! I Wuggy-fied them and made them Huggy’s paternal grandparents.
Kinger is a very intelligent programmer who loves playing games with his children. He especially loves logic games and puzzles. He tried his best to entertain his children (and grandchildren) while teaching them. BlackJack especially enjoyed challenging his father at card games. He had gotten especially good at those while Kinger enjoyed chess and checkers.
Queenie is a very passionate entomology expert who taught her children and now grandchildren all about bugs, how beautiful they are, and how important they are to the environment. She especially connects well with her daughter who is passionate about dinosaurs and other prehistoric life. They often take turns discussing their interests.
They vanished when their twins were very young. They were unlucky enough to run into a malicious entity that thought it would be humerus to stick the two in a dark, unending maze deep underground and far from civilization. Many years laters they were found and rescued. There are still lingering consequences of those years of trauma but overall they’re much happier now.
I should probably make it clear that in my Poppy’s PlayPlace AU Oliver is not as tall as canon, the tallest toy type is Snuggle Bugs which is what Huggy and Kissy’s species is called in all my AUs.
If I remember correctly they are roughly 8ft tall which means not a lot of older buildings in certain areas accommodate them well. The FluffyTufts basically built their own house from the ground up.
I haven’t hammered down Oliver’s exact height but he’s at least a head shorter than an adult Snuggle Bug. (Although I imagine he made adjustments to his prosthetics so he could annoy his best buds GracefulLace and HugBug by being just a little taller by extending his legs.)
Here’s a tiny bit of a history lesson, then the diagram.
In Poppy’s PlayPlace everyone who is a sentient being is a toy, Usually they gradually evolve like normal animals do, though parent toys have to craft a vessel for their baby but I’ll get more into depth about that some other time.
Jack in the boxes, however, can have their origin traced back to a porcelain clown doll that served as a jester to a king.
Unfortunately this king was so pompous and arrogant that he eventually couldn’t take the joke and decided to send assassins to murder the poor fool. They cut up his body and threw his limbs into the river.
Unbeknownst to the Jester or the Pompous King, someone had been watching this Joker and had grown quite fond of him.
SwiftPaw, The Old Fox, was a bit of a silly creature. He was always playing pranks and making others look foolish. Being a jolly little guy it didn’t take much to warm up to the funniest mortal he’d ever met. He followed the fated fool everywhere, eager to hear his japes and puns.
So, he wasn’t going to let this guy die. He snatched his torso up and threw him into a box The Crafter had made for him to hide in. (SwiftPaw often liked to squeeze himself into small spaces. Being the god of space ment he didn’t necessarily need a box to do that but it was his first gift from Crafter so he carried it everywhere.)
He enchanted the box so it would preserve the Jester’s life and blessing him with magic to make his new life a little easier, it flows around his torso, enabling him to manipulate anything wrapped around it as if it were a part of his body.
We’re gonna step ahead because this is just a summary and we have more important things to cover:
Oliver Boxer, adopted by Elliot Ludwig after an incident left him the lone survivor of his family.
Unfortunately for Oliver much like the Factory AU he was adopted with ulterior motives and is forcefully separated from his box so Elliot can find a way to fix a child with a known ailment and added augments to him to test other medical procedures he was pioneering at the time like a synthetic voice box and arm prosthetics. (Oliver made his own leg prosthetics when he was a bit older. Before that he got around on a wheelchair.)
The arm prosthetics are particularly notable because the way he attached it cut off the magic in Oliver’s body. Meaning now he has to depend on them to move and function.
Over the years Ollie has adjusted well to this, even making improvements to Elliot’s original designs.
The following images help show the differences between Ollie and his kids Jacklyn and Huxley. They also show why they prefer long sleeves.
Ok so, I loved the prototype. Gave him a fun redesign that made me fall more in love and now I’m rethinking the part where he’s evil so I can’t exactly say how things are in The Flowers That Grow in Darkness. (Except that last post I did discussing the tragedy of the tour, that’s still the same.)
As for Poppy’s PlayPlace, that’s a bit easier thanks to my wonderful friend Toon.
Decided that he’s Huxley and Jacklyn’s dad who went missing just before they were born. (In this world they basically hatched or ‘Popped’ out of their box he and his husband carved.)
No one actually knows what happened to him at the start of the series but he will show up eventually.
Here’s my design for Oliver Boxer (He took his former last name back after becoming an adult.)
I usually call her Porcelain Lily to avoid confusion with Lily LoveBraids, But her name right now is just Lily
She’s the third member of the Flower Porcelain Group of her, Poppy, and Dahlia. She disappeared under mysterious circumstances and Poppy and Dahlia get really nervous when you talk about her.
Of course she isn’t the only one who disappeared that day…
Her design was inspired by those collector’s dolls that have the creepy realistic pink around their eyes. You’ll know it if you saw it.
The Tour Tragedy - The Flowers That Grow in Darkness
AKA the accident that changed everything.
I almost forgot to expand on the incident leading to a large group including a handful of adults becoming experiments in my AU.
So, Ya’ll remember in chapter 4 where the intro VHS showed Jack getting the ticket for a PlayTime Co tour? Well in my AU Jack wasn’t the only one. He and four other kids were going on the tour as a fun trip. The parents wanted to make a day long play date basically.
So everything is going great, unfortunately one of the kid’s dad couldn’t make it because of work so it’s just him and his mom. The whole group is Jack, Sue, George, Jacklyn (No relation to Jack), Benny, Jack (Dad to twins, no affiliation to child Jack. Yes I know, I have way too many characters with Jack in the name.), Louise, Huey, Lacy, Quincy, Quinn, and Dolly. So five kids and seven adults.
There’s a little hitch when one of the twin’s have to go to the bathroom and family of four wonder off into the factory thinking they saw a bathroom, we’ll get back to them later. Dad Jack, Louise, Lacy, and Huey are separated from the others.
The rest of the group is heading towards the vats and Jack just like canon is excited to get to this part so he tries to run ahead, while Susan and George are making their fun banter Jacklyn decides she should probably stay close to him because she’s had plenty of experience with Benny excitedly getting into places he shouldn’t.
Speaking of which, he and Quinn are also running around looking down at the floor below. They think they see a little kid down there, like younger than them running around and try getting the guide’s attention.
The guide, being a long time employee is definitely ready to shoot of a half decent excuse as to why they totally didn’t see anything odd, just a worker and perspective, or a shadow that just looked like it was moving, or you kids and your crazy imaginations!
During his poorly trained canned phrases there’s a loud creak and wobble to the catwalk. Jack starts to slip and Jacklyn runs to catch him. She would have caught him but the supports snap and they both go tumbling down. Jack falls into the vat, but, we’ll just say only Jacklyn’s bottom half did, the other hits the factory floor.
Benny cries for his mom and runs over to where she fell, Quincy tries to grab him, having to run after the boy to stop him. The catwalk continues to fall as the guide scrambles to the door pushing a shocked Susan and George to the side, unintentionally to the safe zone. It’s not long before the whole thing goes down and everyone left standing on it.
Now let’s get back to the four that separated from the group. Now that the bathroom issue is settled they have to make it back to the others, however, they have no idea where the tour went so they innocently wonder through some areas, there’s an alarm going on so the parents start to think that they could be in trouble so they try to find someone to ask for amnesty and a way out, but everyone is gone.
They take a take a few chance turns and start to hear crying, think it’s one of their kids’ friends they decided to follow that, and because that poor guy probably needs some comfort.
But this isn’t a kid they know…It’s just some random boy that’s…in a cell of some kind? What the hell is going on around here? Before they can say anything they turn around to gun in their faces.
Now all that’s left is Susan and George…Oh and Ben who was at work…But they’ll join the others very soon…
How do I even begin to explain my plans for The Crafter and The Helper?
Like, I probably should have before the new Poppy PlayTime chapter because my friend and I came up the idea that they’re stuck in the same form as a reversible plush situation a while ago, like, middle of last year or so.
They’re two different characters, different designs, personalities, minds, etc, but they possess the same ‘body’ and only one can exist at a time.
The Helper is the Poppy’s PlayPlace version of the player character in Poppy Playtime.
The Crafter is the Player (POV) character in ‘Don’t Toy with Me’.
Let’s just say one is more…Assertive than the other. One gets kinda nervous when the other takes control…
New chapter is out and here are my quick-ish thoughts about how this’ll change my AUs.

The Flowers That Grow in Darkness
Ok, so as things were before the difference in my AU from others is that Harley Sawyer managed to convince the higher ups to also turn some of the parents in the factory tour accident into toys because there was a whole friend group of several families that day and more than just Jack fell. There was a structural collapse with the thing they were walking on and one of the families wondered into a place they shouldn’t have. Jack’s parent’s were the only ‘survivors’. (There’s more but this post is gonna be long as it is. I’ll put the whole deal in another post over the weekend.)
Eventually, however the parents proved too unruly so Harley had to put them in stasis. Yes, he’s uncharacteristically kind here but I assure you he still talks like an ass.
Now that we know some workers helped with the Hour of Joy it would be interesting if Harley found out about this and told them where he hid the parents. That would be the real threat here.
As for the new characters I think they fine where they’re at. Of course Giblet has more allies and who knows a lot of his buddies might still be alive because the Prototype’s influence is much weaker here. There are some areas still under his control but I still need to figure out just how much dynamics change.
Lily LoveBraids is still an outsider because I like the idea of the Little Swatch Girls sort of sneaking off to save her or convince her to work against the prototype only to realize she’s the one everyone needs protection from.
Speaking of the Little Swatch Girls, I also still need to figure out their area in the factory. I was thinking they got a theme park where they served as the Disney Princess style meet and greets. Those plans have not changed.
Poppy’s PlayPlace
I don’t really know what I’m gonna do with Chumy Chalmers or most of the Outsideamals… Sorry I just don’t feel attached to them yet.
Now Giblet is probably gonna be an old grizzled but lighthearted retired leader type that still helps the new more stern leader that acts as a head of a government program made to protect citizens from odd things happening across the world. I haven’t determined how crucial this organization is to the plot yet but probably not much, maybe one or two episodes.
Lily LoveBraids is definitely going to give Poppy and Dahlia trouble. You see, they both hide a dark secrets in that big old mansion they live in and LoveBraid’s grandmother Rose WoodBraid was an old friend of a girl they used to know who mysteriously disappeared…
Huggy’s Mom. I actually originally started her design as Huggy and Kissy’s daughter until I decided she looked more like a mom. She’s my second personal Snuggle Bug design.
She was the beginning of my incessant need to keep bringing Huggy’s relatives to life. Dude’s got a whole village in that factory now. In the beginning it was supposed to be just him, Lacy, and their not officially adopted brother BenjiBear. Then it was the siblings, mom, and maternal grandpa, then I decided I actually wanted their dad to be alive…Or did I give them their paternal aunt first?
Anyway, Lovey is fun to think about because I use her and her husband as an excuse as to why my AU isn’t as depressing as canon. They’re the adults that keep a larger portion of the experiments away from the influence of the prototype by being responsible parents… (As responsible as one can be after a toy company turns you into a giant version of your kids’ favorite stuffy.)
A lot of her really interesting developments kinda filled in later during development. Her start was as a mom who is a published author but now I’ve given much more personality. Like how she often cares more about animals and kids than a lot of adults because she lived a long life surrounded by idiots especially as a kid when she was a little bit of a trouble maker. She’s very caring and considerate to everyone who isn’t a buffoon or monster.
I’ve also decided she has a very keen sense of direction and doesn’t get lost often. Very valuable to have on road trips. Very valuable when trying to heard a punch of traumatized children. She’s useful for a lot of things really, and that’s not even bringing up the shiz she can do in the cartoon AUs.
As for a lot of her design. She wasn’t really as difficult to figure out as Lacy. I would mess around with her patterns and colors a lot, but Lovey fell together pretty quickly. I made her shoulder’s floofy because they remind me of Victorian dress sleeves.
I definitely don’t talk about her enough here. She just kinda shows up with everything prebuilt from conversations with friends. Plus TH description.
She was my first real SnuggleBug (What I call Huggy’s species.) original character. Basically I looked at Huggy’s chase, heard that tape after that where a scientist makes his final log and thought “What there was two of them and they hunted you like a family wolves or raptors?”
And that was also at the tail end of the whole ‘siblings or boo’ debate the fandom was having with Huggy and Kissy the “Better Half” descriptor softly put a close to.
So I decided to give Huggy a sister, a twin that ended up taking a good portion of his bloodlust so in my AU he wouldn’t be quite as unpalatable to our pink lanky Princess. (Although neither were too animalistic, I find it more fun to write them aware and coherent.)
The black part of Lacy’s fur was inspired by the outfit Beyoncé wore in “All the Single Ladies” but her taste in music gears more toward Simple Plan and the Used. Grunge and punk and if she was human or in a world were she wasn’t a hungry monster she’d be visiting HotTopic every chance she got.
I may ramble on about her more, but that’s all I got for now. I do love.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention how much I love thinking about Lacy bothering Huggy. Like sisters often do.
One of my favorites is in the factory AU “The Flowers That Grow in Darkness” where the two is hanging out in lobby area and she decides to keep pressing the button, putting Huggy’s theme song on a constant loop until he rips the plaque out the ground.
Also, Hello, this is the blog I completely dedicated to my Poppy PlayTime AU. Things are more neat over here.
I started this in August because I did not expect to get it done so soon. XD
Ta-Da! The quality is ugh but I’m posting it everywhere so it’s gotta look good in one of those places.
This is from my current favorite AU: Poppy’s PlayPlace!
The ToyBox gang has certainly had a fun night of Trick or Treating! (Only treats were gotten this night, despite Lacy and Yarnaby’s attempts to spook the others.)
Time for them to settle down at Uncle Huxley’s place while the parents chat over coffee in the other room. No doubt getting a good rest after walking around with all the stuff the kids didn’t want to carry around all night.
Another Poppy’s PlayPlace Lore Poll because I’m curious.
I was wondering when I should make Huggy and Kissy’s relationship official? It’s definitely going to happen relatively early on because will they won’t they can be used for other couples frankly. But how early on?
When should Kissy and Huggy start Dating?
