Yes I am aware this was now over a week ago but I wanna catch you up, don't I?
session 1 ~1hr
The Ruling Class: 165 pages
session 2 ~1hr
The Ruling Class: 162 pages
★★★★☆ Such a fun read, as always with JL Barnes Thrillers tbh. She's just incresible at what she does. I am so buying more once I finished this challenge.
Reading Recap!
These are all the books I read in the first nine days of this challenge, a pretty impressive stack if I do say so myself. I finished all but one of them within those nine days.
Last week was a mess. I didn't post, I only managed the 90mins of reading twice and it all round just kind of sucked.
Work was more stressful than anticipated and upon coming home I could just collapse and scroll on Tiktok. It kind of feels really embarrassing to me, which it really shouldn't.
While yes, this challenge is to build consistent habits, it shouldn't take over your life or be prioritized over your health. Idk I think this is probably obvious to most people but I was struggling with a lot of guilt at first .
I'm now going to prepare Day 9 and a recap as well as days 10 and 11 and schedule them throughout the day. (I am in fact wrting this while in a Zoom lesson lol.
★★★★★ Highkey the best Death Note volume so far. Also by far the most painful, I miss my beloved already. This also has the two most breath taking panels in the series so far. I love it.
Death Note Vol. 8: 224 pages
★★★.5 Unfortunately the plot gets a little convoluted after 7, truly a bummer. Still very good but There are some story lines I personally find a little hard to follow.
Day 8
session 1 ~1hr 15mins
How Does It Feel: 52 pages
I only have about 100 pages left at this point, I'm so glad. I read this while listening to an ASMRtist do Pokemon cardpack opening, that definetly helped keep me sane.
session 2 ~15mins
The Ruling Class: 42 pages
I was so tired but didn't want to fail the day, ngl.
I have offcially kept up with this challenge for over a week, I'll be honest, I never thought I could do it. It is a little tough at times and I need to fix my sleep schedule but regardless, I'm doing it!
There are definetly days that are harder than other, especially because I work so much but I trust that I will build my habits around that.
Tomorrow I might post a recap of the entire week, who knows?
Using my break at work wisely. Thoughts and feelings on the book will follow in a sec.
session 2 ~20mins
How Does It Feel?: 13 pages
Read this at my desk I think? Might've been letting Genshin play or something while reading. Still not having fun at all.
session 3 ~1½hrs
The Faraway Inn: 178 pages
★★★★★ 'Oh I'll just read a bit until I hit my required time for today' she thought, like a complete idiot. Loved this book so much, so cozy and fun. It sorta feels like a warm hug? It's so cozy, yet the stakes are never zero and all the characters are super lovable.
Day 6
session 1 ~45mins
How Does It Feel?: 35 pages
Once again optimizing my free time by running a story quest in the background while reading, I really wanted to 80 my Linnea, okay?
session 2 ~45mins
Atelier of Witch Hat 09: 160 pages
Atelier of Witch Hat 10: 172 pages
★★★★★ for both, I love this series so fucking much. Unfortunately things are going to shit right now, I'm scared for my girls. Love the plot direction tho!!! Also loving Luluci, dad Oru and the vibes all around. I will scream my love for this manga from the rooftops!
Ngl, keeping up with the challenge has been getting tougher and tougher. (I am aware that that is a pathetic thing to say on day 6.) However, that makes me even more determined to pull through, I think I just need to get used to it.
The main issue is, that I work all day and sometimes I don't have the chance to read until I'm home again. I'll figure it eventually, I'm sure.
I very badly wanted to complete my Witch Hat Atelier collection, so I did!
These we all had in stock and I got to take home on Tuesday....
but of course I ordered 9 and 10!
Aaaaaand something I've been anxiously awaiting for weeks now.
THE FARAWAY INN!
I have finished it since taking it home two days ago and I lovedddd it. It's also so beautiful!
May I present: the reason I did not want to stop myself from continuing to buy manga series while doing 75 booked. I have fallen hard and fast for Witch Hat Atelier ever since picking up Volume 2 a month ago. I originally received the first volume for my birthday 8 or so years ago and I got back into it after seeing it in our manga shelf at work. (Funfact, the copy I own of Vol. 1 was purchased in the very same bookstore I now work at, talk about full circle.)
This is probably (hopefully) gonna be one of the only times you see me actually spend money on books/manga during this challenge. Maybe every once in a while I will show off some of the review copies I receive but that's really it. The "loophole" I left myself exists for this series, and this series only.
Updating you from the bus omw to work today, look at me using my time efficiently.
Also happy Genshin 6.5 day to those who celebrate, may the 5*s you want, find you.
session 1 ~1hr 20mins
The weather was sooo lovely yesterday that I decided to take my first reading session of the day outside to enjoy the sun. The weather getting warmer is drastically improving my mood istg.
Centuria Vol. 1: 192 pages
★★★☆☆ unfortunately not really my vibe. The artstyle was cool enough but nothing exeptional. The story itself also wasn't as interesting as i hoped based on the summary in the back :(. Happens, just means I won't continue the series.
This Monster Wants to Eat Me Vol. 2: 162 pages
★★★★☆ I love this manga sm. The protagonists have such a lovely dynamic and the plot is definetly picking up a bit. There's something so fascinating about this series being both so heartwarming and dark. Can't wait for the next Volume, so excited to see how the situation with the MC's best friend pans out!!
The Faraway Inn: 49 pages
Highkey one of my most anticipated Review copies this year. So far super cozy and fun, def finishing this in the next few days!
session 2 ~1hr
Ngl, I almost failed yesterday because of how tired I was. However, I managed to get myself to read a bit in bed.
How Does It Feel?: 38 pages (annotated)
This book is really starting to break me, never have I read anything as soul sucking as that. You can tell by my extraordinarily slow reading pace.
Early morning reading in bed. Finished the rest of Hazelthorn from day 2.
Hazelthorn: 154 pages
★★★★★: Incredible book. I love, love, loved "Don't Let the Forest In" and I had such high hopes for this. Happy to say the book held up.
(Queer horror is hands down one of my favourite things to read everrrrrrr.)
Session 2 ~1hr 20mins
How Does It Feel?: 44 pages
Spent some time reading while on call with a friend (reading somwhere that isn't my bed, check). Continued "How Does It Feel?" for my coworker, she will now be privvy to some of my friends opionions and quotes.
(The book still does not feel good at all and being in Prince Emo's head didn't make it any better.)
I originally planned to read some more later in the evening but then the Witch Hat Atelier anime release happened and I was occupied for the rest of the day....
Funfact: My number 1 way to not read in bed is reading while running Genshin Archon Quests in the background. It forces me to sit at my desk but I still read. (I also feel very productive, esp if I don't actually care about the Archon Quest)
A Tale of the Secret Saint: 176 pages
★★★★☆ Very cute and very fun. I love the art style and the story is super promising, will continue.
How Does It Feel?: 28 pages and annotations
I am currently reading and annotating How Does It Feel for my dearest and darlingest favourite coworker because we thought it'd be funny to swap the books after. Ngl, if it wasn't for her I'd have dnfed this book by now.
session 2 ~45mins
Fangs Volume 1: 226 pages
★★★★☆ Absorbed this in one go, officially the last unread yaoi on my shelf. Pretty fun and cool, I love me some vampires. The characters and setting definetly have potential, will continue the series.
Day 2
session 1 ~1hr
Atelier of Witch Hat Vol. 7: 192 pages
Atelier of Witch Hat Vol. 8: 192 pages
★★★★★ Inhaled both while chilling in bed right after waking up from my nap. I cried. I am so madly in love with this series, you have no idea.
session 2 ~1hr 15mins
How Does It Feel?: 54 pages (with annotations again)
still suffering
surprise session 3 ~ 1hr
Hazelthorn: 137 pages
finally picked it up again after months and didn't regret a thing about it.
(Also if anyone's wondering, yes I read very fast, especially with manga. I only read slow when annotating a book or if I really struggle getting through it for one reason or another. That is how my varying page counts can all be true, it really depends on my enjoyment and state of mind)
If you ever want me to talk about any specific book or manga more just lmk!
- multiple shorter session are alright, as long as they add up to 1½hrs
2. Log your progress
- document the sessions and what you read in a journal
- log and review all books in a reading journal
(- semi regularly update this blog)
3. No buying books that add to my tbr
- requesting arcs (and receiving them) is okay, they are work relevant to me
- buying collecters editions of books i have read and loved is fair game
- I'm making an exception for continuing manga series I have already started, because I will not wait 2½ months to continue Witch Hat Atelier
4. If I a fail a day, the challenges gets longer
- nothing drastic, those days will happen and I'll just add a day everytime this happens
my trusty companions through this challenge!
Oop, yes I still exist.
Hi I'm Chaos and about a year ago I picked up book blogging here on tumblr. However life happened and I stopped.
Now I want to pick it back up in order to keep myself accountable doing 75 booked (or at least a modified version of it). I'm excited to share my journey through both this challenge and my tbr with you!
As some of you may be able to tell, I adjusted some of the rules to fit me and my life (and work). As I am a bookseller by trade I need to (sort of) keep up with what's happening, so arcs are very much fair game. I'm just trying to not excessively add to my tbr.
I'm going to try updating this blog regularly by sharing my progress but you might also find a few posts about anything else that strikes my fancy.
