As a girlie in healthcare, its really interesting to see people's takes on Dr Al Hashimi's case especially those who are siding with Robby "Take her license away!"
Shelving my own experience and sticking with canon, Dr Al Hashimi was seizure free for a year before coming to Pittsburg. This means before that and all her years of medical school, residency, and fellowship, she had epilepsy which she managed with her medication. Mind you, managed does not mean seizure free, so she was still epileptic and had seizures. She is a skilled and accomplished emergency medicine doctor with diverse experiences who had to overcome these challenges while being an immigrant woman of colour - needing to continuously prove herself. Later a single parent.
She recognised her health concerns. She called her neurologist both at her previous institution and now at the current one to make a care plan. That is a good and sound care plan.
That is what you're supposed to do.
Plus, she's interim chief.
Now, Robby is expecting the interim chief - who should be covering him while he is away on sabatical for three months - to report herself to the board. Then what? Do you want her fired? Revoke her license for practicing medicine?
No! A well-managed chronic neurological condition, disclosed and followed with specialist care, is not grounds for professional disqualification—especially not in a senior physician operating under neurologist oversight. The ethical issue here is not her competence, but Robby’s escalating emotional projection onto institutional authority.
Right now, it seemed more that Robby was projecting and trying to find every excuse and reason to not leave on his suicide roadtrip by giving himself "okay, I'll stay till Monday to see if she reported herself or not?"
That is messy. That is mental health and Robby is a greatly complex character who is bleeding and he is bleeding on other people, trying to make them think that his blood is theirs, so he doesn't realise its him who is hurting.
I am not going to comment further on Dr Robby and his PTSD as that is whole separate post to give his condition the same love and respect that Dr Al's does.
