One of the nicest things about antique seating is how well different pieces can be mixed together. For instance, antique armchairs in soft pastel shades — like a pair of Swedish Barrel Back armchairs — can work beautifully when styled the right way.

Mixing antique seats doesn’t just improve comfort, it also adds character to the space. Light-coloured antique chairs may seem simple when placed on their own. But combine them with more modern or bold furniture, and they can bring just the right balance to a hallway or living room.

Antique coffers might sound like something that only belongs in the old world, in country homes for instance. But these surprisingly work well in modern interiors as well. The elegant coffers in subtle earthy tones sit very well in modern minimalist decors. In a minimalist interior, an old coffer can stop things feeling cold or flat. When used the right way, they add warmth, character and a sense of history that new furniture just can’t fake.

One of the reasons antique coffers fit into modern homes so easily is their simple, solid shape. These showcase clean lines, sturdy construction and good materials, which is a good fit in contemporary spaces. Coffers are practical. They offer good storage, seating and are a statement piece all in one. In a hallway, for instance, a coffer can be used for shoes and bags.
