I hail rationality. I feel humbled by the fact that I have a miserable memory, so I have to organize it through emotions. I remember only what has a connex to something that gave me emotions. I'm more intuitional than I want to.
Only rational ways are communicable, provable, give a basis for further thinking.
I love the novella of Charles L. Harness The Rose as it gives me solace for my intuitional way of being creative and noncommunicable.
It is about a ballet dancer, who suffers from a progressing disease which leads to a hurting hunchback. She is also psychiatrist and has the task to work with the maybe disturbed husband of a mathematician. This mathematician, a beautiful and very tough woman is on the verge of finding an important formula so she is backed by the government. The husband is artist and has an even worse hunchback than our ballet dancer and is to his wife often too much a distraction.
The story is about good and evil. But these sides are represented by art and science. Art is soft, good, is ahead of the evilwilling hard science. And the two artists, the ballet-dancer and mathematician's husband are at the end of the novella the seed of a new being, the next evolutional step of humankind.
There are a row of very inspiring and compelling passages in the text. The "running gag" is, that science is striving, working hard only to have results art had already known through - well - intuition.
The artist challenges his wife in a duell. She had the prototype of a machine which could transform formulas in soundwaves - it was meant as a new weapon. And the artist shows her a row of formulas about star emissions, but she triumphes - these formulas are already known for 200 years now. But let us feed the machine with these formulas. Ok. They did. And out came ..... "Twinkle, twinkle, little star", a melody of basic popular knowledge known at least since the middle ages. The triumph of intuitional mathematics as music over science based on physics.
For me that is a fable to fiction, explicit: Science Fiction, and what it's scope and real designation should be: to speculate, to feel free to dream before science and technology can realize this. And this novella of Charles L. Harness is Science Fiction. Let it melt on our tongue: SCIENCE + FICTION!!!
I love these endless twists.
