“I will probably be joining you in the Lost House Points club, unfortunately.” Tami sighed, not her best decision as Head Girl so far… but some things were just more important, like talking to her parents. “If anyone asks, you didn’t see me and as far as you know I was headed to class, ok?” One lesson would surely do no real harm, she was good at studying, she’d borrow notes and figure it out no problem. Giving a smile, she gestured her housemate onward and gave him a wave. “I’ll see you later, Charlie!”

Everett raised an eyebrow dubiously. “Hilarious.” With that, he closed his books and started packing up. “Has that ever worked for you?” Everett hadn’t finished anything he wanted to before the weekend but then again he had all weekend to finish it. “I’m gonna go flying. Good luck with that, Charlie.” He said nodding towards the flirting. “Maybe you should try your pickup line.”

Dona dissolved into a fit of laughter at the thought of it, clutching her stomach and slumping against their table to prop herself up. “Oh gosh, Charlie! You’re hilarious!” She snickered, her laughter eventually dying down with a heavy sigh. “Speaking of Muggles, I’ve gotta get to class,” She said, picking up her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. She stood, and then turned to Charlie with a frown. “I meant- my class is Muggle Studies. So that’s why I said ‘speaking of muggles’? It was weird. Weird thing to say.” Dona frowned, then gave a smirk, and turned again to head off.

Charlie chuckled shaking his head. “You don’t have to explain, I understand. Have fun. Let me know when they start teaching you about video games. I’d be happy to show you some of my favorites. Do they even teach video games? I never bothered to look into the curriculum.” Rubbing his face to hide his ruddy cheeks he grumbled. “Gosh, please ignore me, have a nice day Dona.”

Nadette smiled at his easy acceptance but she didn’t know how that was surprising or making him blush. Some of his embarrassment was rubbing off on her, that much was evident from the heat crawling up her neck to her cheeks. “Thanks, I’m glad we’re all happy. Can we go back to studying again or are you looking to heat the castle with your ruddy cheeks?”

“Studying, definitely studying.” He mumbled to his books, too embarrassed to meet her eyes.

Ursa sighed. “You need a break. We will come back into the library after we get some air.” She raised an eyebrow to see if he’d argue with her.

Charlie held his hands up in surrender. “As you wish.” She was oddly intimidating. “I’m not just leaving this here. That’s just asking for it.” Once all his things were safe in his bag he threw it over his shoulder looking to her to lead the way. “Black Lake? Edge of the Forrest? Quidditch Pitch?”

Dahlia smirked while she crossed her arms over her chest, tapping her fingers on her arm. “What are you gonna say, Charlie?” She used finger quotes and deepened her voice to sound more like Charlie’s “Hey can you stop your attempts of flirting, some of us are trying to do something productive.”

Charlie narrowed his eyes at his parchment and started scribbling making a whole mess of his work. “Well when you say it like that, it sounds pointless.”

Was he upset? Maybe a little envious? He hasn’t had a lot of action this year, but he could change that. “Bad flirting can be upsetting. It’s not interrupting me it’s just kinda distracting. What was I doing?”

“Oh-ho-ho you call that bad flirting? Are you ready to be even more distracted?” Charlie rubbed his hands together while he tried to think of some of his most ridiculous pickup lines. “It’s handy that I have my library card because I’m totally checking you out. Get it? Because we’re in the library.”

Nadette grinned but let Charlie off the hook. “If he had a younger sister, I’d probably have a crush on her.” Sure Nadette hadn’t nailed down her sexuality yet, she was pretty sure she had a preference for girls. She felt she was still too young to give a name to her feelings at seventeen. Maybe when she was older she’d be able to nail it down or it would continue to remain fluid. She honestly felt she had more pressing concerns, like her studies and pets and family than her sexuality.

Charlie’s eyes go wide before he blushed a deep red. “Oh yeah?” He cleared his throat and loosened his tie at his throat. “Well to each their own.” He gave a sheepish smile. He hadn’t expected Nadette to give him such personal information and while he was happy she felt comfortable enough to, he worried if he said anything it might be the wrong thing to say. Already what he’s said was cringe-worthy. “I’m happy for you.” His blush deepened even more.

Tami merely smiled. She could vaguely remember it- or maybe just picture it, regardless it was an image that had her smiling, it was just so Charlie. “I like that you try new things, even if you get them a little bit muddled sometimes.” She gave him an assuring nod. New things were good, new things were keeping her occupied while she pushed through this time of year, all she needed was a grand distraction until the holidays came about and she could be home again- the protests were not only a distraction but her favourite kind, political. “I can’t use you as an excuse… if I’m late then I’ll own up to it, I just have to…” Hmm, she wasn’t even sure where she could go to get a good reception right now, most people would be in classes and Tami couldn’t get into the better-connected common rooms without someone else. She huffed. “I might have to wait until after class.”

Charlie sighed and grimaced shaking his head. “I apologize in advance for the loss of points I’ll most likely cause. I think I’m gonna disillusion myself to see if I can sneak in.” He pulled his wand out from his pocket as he started walking to the door of his classroom that was just up ahead on the left.

Dona was very pro-Christmas, but she grinned when he smiled. “Honestly, Charlie, you can do Hallloween all year long if you wanted. I mean, there’s Muggles who have Christmas stores open all year round, right? If Muggles can do it, you can do it too.”

Charlie, of course, knew she was right, “It’s just not the same. Halloween is specific to one day, If I show up to Christmas in a scream mask it suddenly becomes the nightmare before Christmas. My parents are on the older side I think it might give them a heart attack if I did.”

Dahlia sighed and pulled her textbook closer and tried to ignore everything-the flirting, the reshelving that the flirting was interrupting, and Charlie’s nervous energy. “What’s got you all worked up. Just try to ignore it.” She even placed her wand on the table in case the next step needed to be a quietus charm.

Even if Charlie was acting weird and stressed out, Dahlia had some hints of it too. He glanced down at her wand on the table and then back up at Dahlia. “I’ve been trying to ignore it. Maybe I should say something.”

“To be fair, Charlie, aren’t you in practically every club that exists?” Tami had no idea how he did it but she supposed they were both persistently stubborn in their own ways, she thought it was very admirable of them both. “No, the current revolution. Veela protesting in the Ministry! Did you not read the paper?” She hadn’t stopped moving for some time but skidded to a stop when what Charlie said really sunk in and immediately grimaced. “Class! Crap, ok, I need to talk to my mum first or I won’t be able to concentrate…” Fat chance of that happening regardless. “Do you think it’s terribly bad for a Head Student to be late to class?”

Charlie beamed proudly. “I am. Sometimes I get turned around and end up at the wrong club meeting. I once showed up to dueling club with my knitting needles. It was soooo embarrassing.” He couldn’t remember if Tami has been to dueling club that day all he remembered was quickly stuffing his knitting bag under a chair and the rest had been a blur.

Oh, the Veela protest. “I skimmed it with breakfast but then,” He gestured to the hall. “Then I was late, and I’ve been late all day so I haven’t really, really read it.” When she suddenly stopped he stopped to stare at her wide-eyed. “I mean, I’m sure they’ll be fine with you being late, but I’ve been late all day. Do you need an excuse? I could be that excuse. Then we can both be late.”

“Ooof, alright, gather all your things we’ll find a new table.” She said with a smile as she started scooping all her things into her arms. “I think you’re a little overwhelmed, your aura is all over the place. Maybe some fresh air would be better.”

Charlie watched her start to pack up. “If I leave this library I will never finish my work that needs to be done.”

Nadette snorted. “No, not my type. It was just gossip. And sure, I can see why others would be attracted to him but nope, not me.” She raised her head from her work and smirked. “Do you find him attractive?”

“He’s the professor that runs Wizards chess.” That doesn’t answer the question at all but he was still trying to process what she said. “So what is your type?”

Everett watched them flirt a bit envious and pushed his tongue into his cheek. “Either he’s clueless to it or they’re very bad at flirting.” He furrowed his brow, “Or he’s being too nice to them.”

Charlie raised an eyebrow. “And why do you seem upset about that? It’s not like it’s you they’re interrupting. Well, they’re kinda interrupting us with that stupid incessant giggling.”

Ursa giggled under her breath, “Oh relax Charlie. Do you wanna move to another table?”

Charlie tapped his quill on the blank sheet of parchment though it wasn’t as satisfying his muggle pens. “It’s the sanctity of a library that’s being violated. Libraries are for studying and research and homework not flirting with the librarian. It’s not the noise, it’s fact that the rules are being bent.” Normally this wouldn’t bother him, what really was bothering him was how unprepared he was feeling for his upcoming DADA exam.

Nadette chuckled quietly though she never took her eyes off of her own assignment. “You don’t find him attractive then? A lot of students do.”

Charlie whipped his head back around to stare at the top of Nadette’s head that still hadn’t lifted from her assignment. “Do you find him attractive?”
