i would loveee to see u draw the queens of mewniiii in your style šš
I only did the ones brought up properly by the show -solaria because I donāt like her and her design for the most part. I hate that she is the only full on beefed one from the entire cast of women, Miss Meteora is RIGHT THERE š”
+ my tweaks and commentary on each of the queens and why I drew them the way I did and general thoughts
I donāt have the books for this show nor I do want to entrench myself further, since the show alone makes me furious. I do not want to find out any more horrific implications from any of the books. I think I could draw any of the others if someone requests it, but it wonāt go into pro-er detail in commentary and opinion.
I āfully disregard the fact that festivities āisnāt relatedā to Eclipsa. It opens a stupid and extremely badly written can of mewni worms.
now as for the actual queens themselves,
Eclipsa
ITS HERR OMGGG.
Eclipsa was the first I wanted to draw, since she was the start of the queens I enjoy. Her show design is an amazing base on its own and the voice they cast for her is perfect. There are few things Iāve changed. Her tapestry look and the initial impression we had in the crystalised form were incredibly appealing to me. Her relaxed and confident eyes with small pupils and giant hat were captivating, her gloves and corrupt arms were soo perfect⦠and then she became a big part of the main cast.
when she first appeared in the rose garden after being freed, I still enjoyed her design very much, but as the show went on her eyes became bigger and rounder, her gloves shifted down, and her outfits werenāt nearly as good as her base two (the dress and hat, the pajamas, and the trials coat is an add on to the first outfit).
I was also extremely confused as to why she was called the queen of darkness? What did she actually do? Married a monster, sure, but wouldnāt that just get you called a traitor? Why did her and moons arms corrupt the same amount when Eclipsa is literally called the queen of darkness?? Why are only her arms affected?
I wanted to address all of these complaints I had with her design in my version.
under the clothes, her entire body is pitch black with grey curling up and showing a bit on her chin. Her eyes are small BUT the purple colour can show to emphasise emotions in a moment so we donāt have to get rid of an unconventional feature on a woman. I also made her a bit thicker, her
im also very of the opinion that check marks should be affected by the magic too, dark magic especially. Since dark magic is supposed to be a big deal.
ALSO LET HER WEAR BIG CHUNKY EARRINGS.
Miss Meteora
perfect, amazing, stunning, beautiful, lesbian, show stopping, never done before, gracious, elegant, divine, lesbian, wrinkly, gay, etc
I made her skin ashier and a bit yellow since there is literally never any light at st Os. And the purple that carries through the butterflies is much paler on Miss Meteora since she is removed from it most of her life. Her colours as a whole are much duller, but she still matches her family.
Festivia
her initial appearance in the show had a blue dress, which I drew in the side, but the red and yellows are far better. She is Eclipsas daughter, the daughter of the Queen of darkness (regardless of how unestablished or utilised or explained that title is in the show) so the bright red and yellows are a clear sway away from her mothers colours. Eclipsa is short, festivia is tall, Eclipsa isnāt bone skinny and festivia is rather thin even by the shows standards, Eclipsas hair is short and green and festivias locks flow to her feet. Alas, even her very hair is the colour Eclipsa coined as her own. She sports fake horns while her half sister is forced to hide hers.
CelenMY FAVOURITE TAPESTRY TIED WITH ECLIPSAS. If Eclipsas had the best tapestry design wise, Celena has my favourite lore wise. Her subjects flowing to her door while you canāt quite make out her silhouette. as expected of the Queen of secrets, I only know stuff about her tangentially.
I know she has demon blood, but I donāt quite understand how thatās and issue so I made my guess - it made her seem like a part monster. The shows effort to try and draw a connection between monsters and demon is rather dumb and is handled badly so we can just draw a connection to her having to conceal monger like traits simply because the people wonāt care about the difference and will turn on her, magic high commission included. Honestly, knowing who you are but know other people will just think what they want about you and shun you(possibly worse) because they simply donāt actually care to learn of improve. She definitely knew about Meteora and what the commission did. I wish the show paid off the emphasis they had on her.
now as for the design I settled with, I really like the shape her swooping bang created so I put a horn there. I also made her skin a bit reddish compared to the others to hint at her secluded nature. I wrapped her entirely in the robe and wanted to show how she tries to constraint things via her hair. Even thought her hair is bound at so many points, a lock still escaped onto her shoulder. I gave her no eyebrows. It doesnāt matter whether she shaves them or doesnāt have them at all, the muscle can still act as expression help if the emotion is intense enough. Other than that an expressive face could give it all away couldnāt it? I imagine part of why she keeps it long is to manually brush them by hand. Just so it takes as long as possible. I donāt like her redder hair version, itās too bright.
I made her very purple do show the deep connection is seems to have with knowledge of magic.
Comet
Queen comet is the one I changed and redesigned the most. I couldnāt figure out why the original image of Comet had darker skin than her tapestry, especially since darker skin would go beautifully with her colour palette. Plus each and every Queen we see in the show proper is so pasty whiteā¦
I liked the little tufts of hair in her original appearance showing up at the nape of her neck, it made her look like she tucked her hair while she does something else and it balances her attire out to give her an approachable look. I couldnāt figure out what her gloves were doing and I didnāt like the white sleeves her tapestry had, so I gave her the calmer long sleeves and gave her proper gloves. The kind of gloves that are easy to tuck and change and cook with since she is The Chef. I wanted to match the silhouette on her torso to moons a bit but I figured the pink would be better spaced like this. I DO NOT like her tapestry or her dress in the tapestry, but the colours are pretty so I kept them.
Since none of the other queens in the actual show have a full on poofy dress I gave the puffier and more typical princess look to Comet. Even if her actual dress shape would remind moons more with a norrower look toward the legs. I imagine it would be difficult to move around in a full evening dress.
I liked her hair but the messy braid in her tapestry was terrible, how does she plan to do anything, especially cook, with all that hair flying around completely unrestrained? But I liked the braid coming around her head so I gave them more direction.
I redesigned her wand entirely. Her shit was UGLYYYY. Since it had to be a cooking utensil, I decided to make it a mixer. I wanted to keep the festive and happy feel her original wand tried to convey so I made sure to add the circle sprinkles. The thing is, I wanted it to be calm as well. And since a lot of cake batter takes on a yellowish, brownish colour I made it that. I was not worried about overdetailing it AT ALL since the one she had originally was cluttered and ugly.
I did not give her a head ornament since literally everyone seemed to know her personally and barely brought up that she was queen. She probably felt like one of the people to everyone.
alas I wanted to know the terms of this peace treaty. What was she actually like? How was she as a mother? How was she as a person? Why did they make her skin lighter? What was her relationship to toffe at all? What was the fight like? The show doesnāt actually give me enough to care about her proper and her Tapestry tells us NOTHING, and itās ugly.
Moon
Not many notes design wise. I rode her gloves down a bit since I imagine the ONE dark spell she used ONCE wouldnāt consume her body the EXACT same amount as the supposed queen of darkness. Her getting her arms healed in the realm of magic is also dumb. I would think the show would keep a reminder of her actions throughout but no. I guess consequence is for poor people.
Also about her label as a warrior queen. How many battles was she actually in? Iām just curious. Comet was the only queen outright stated to be killed by someone and Toffee was the one to do it. So the Undaunted part makes sense, but full on warrior? What did she do? I wanna know
Also her family in the flag of the hill episode is stupid and ugly lore annd design wise and they all shouldāve been clearly from her husbands side of the family.
Her younger self design is perfect. No notes. Itās peak.
Star
ITS STAR!!!!! I have a lot of opinions on her outfits and I plan to make a tier list along with my opinions on all of them but ya, on her own sheās perfect design wise.
why was she called the āunderestimated ā?? Genuine question. Each and every turn and action she took was hyper to no end. Baby said sheās comparable to Eclipsa (which we donāt see much of beside personality wise even though it was explicitly stated about MAGIC but again why justify things??? Itās only a story based show ahahahaha). She one whoās Toffee on respawn and he stays dead even though Moon had to make a whole deal with Eclipsa just to get a spell strong enough. AND MOON WAS EXPLICITLY STATED TO BE ABOVE THE OTHER QUEENS IN LEARNING MAGIC. Star the āDeterminedā or Star the āShiningā would fit her far better in every aspect. Also her dress in the book of spells is ugly.
a set of drawings of Luz, showing her path in Stagnant Light through to For Your Sake!
Individual images + lore below!
Concealed
this image depicts Luz more-or-less how she's been presenting from Belos' defeat, up until the events of Stagnant Light!
as 'Concealed' implies, this is her appearance under the effects of the concealment stone, looking happy and healthy and, mysteriously, not having aged a day...
as if to regress and 'go back' to simpler times, the stone has given her a barely altered version of her S1 haircut, which Luz herself paired with clothes similar to the outfit she wore for the majority of the show, wearing purple and whites matched with blue shorts and black leggings
Shattered
this depicts her immediately after the events of Chapter 7 of Stagnant Light, her bloodied hand bandaged after her breakdown.
with the concealment stone gone, many details (besides another sudden inch of height) about her come to light! like her lengthened neglected hair, the crackling scars from being disintegrated and put back together, her eyebrow split, and a gray eye from nearly being petrified by Belos.
not visible are scars on her torso, following the shape of the rib bone adornments and the glowing chest emblem from her Titan form!
Healed
this image depicts Luz how she appears in For Your Sake, and the beginning of Growing Pains!
(new fic namedrop yeooo!!)
she is much happier, having learned to look after herself and accept her scars as part of her! with the help of healers, physicians, and therapists of course
inspired by the resurgence of the culture on the Isles a full year on from Belos' death, Luz still wears an outfit vaguely reminiscent of her debut outfit, but with a uniquely Demon Realm twist in the form of a purple tunic adorned in white patterns and decorations
oh, and black compression gloves and binder (not visible) to ease her chronic pains and help her get back in the groove of rebuilding the isles!
I'm getting a bit impatient, I need them to be dating already.
When the blues comes.
Also, if Tomco were canon I feel like this would literally be them. Me and my lil sis rewatch a few episodes and saw Stump day and the Dragon-cycle club. Marco was very attentive and reassuring with Tom during the ride. It was so cute.
