Chase the Service Dog

A journey with my best canine friend and helper! Chase is a Yellow Labrador Retriever with an enormous amount of love, loyalty and dedication to me and his job. I was blessed to receive him from Helping Paws in Hopkins, MN in 2017. We have been through good times and tough times with my health but through it all, he is by my side, ready to help and love! I thank the Lord everyday for this beautiful, gifted, and dedicated animal!

Chase is all buckled in and ready to go run an errand with us. Since we don't go out in public places as frequently, he gets quite excited when we get in the van these days! 💕

After a 2 mile run earlier this evening, Chase was rewarded with a new, cool lickplate that sticks to the window. There are two videos. To see the second one..hover over the video to see the arrows at the bottom or swipe on a mobile device. He absolutely loved it!!! 💕

A glimpse into Chase's morning! Some of my personal cares have to be done while in bed, so he gets to leisurely wait/sleep during this. (photo 1). As soon as I've transferred into my wheelchair via the lift and I turn on my chair, Chase (without command) immediately springs into action to wake himself up (Photo 2). Even a service dog needs a brief moment to wake up 🤣 (photos 3,4,5). Chase sits patiently on the bed until I start the moving my chair (photo 6) and transitions to "Ready for Duty Mom" (photo 7). The last photo is what a service dog does a lot of ... waiting. In this case, waiting for Mom to choose my outfit for the day. He's such a loyal and hard working service dog and loves to help me in all ways that he can!!

Chase I and I caught a roll/run before supper and potential rain 🌧️ As you can see, he sure runs a good clip with my chair (about 7-7.5mph) and is now able to keep up close to 100% of the time. When we started running this season, he was able to do 6.5mph but would lag at anything faster. His weight loss and conditioning is paying off 😁💪 🐾

So proud of my canine partner. He definitely put on some winter weight and we've been going on regular roll/runs every day that is nice enough to have my wheelchair out. He loves it and we usually go 7.5mph for a little over 2 miles. To say it was windy in Minnesota today would be the understatement of the year! So we couldn't go outside and Chase was bored - he's just not into sewing masks 🤣 So I added a little bit of Kong treat to his favorite bone which usually gets him started chewing it after he's licked off all the goodies. After that, he's usually pretty tired.

And we’re off...had to do a minor adjustment on the height of my chair so I could get the full 7.5mph. Chase kept up well and we went over 2 miles today! 💕

Getting ready to go on our daily roll/run to work on winter weight 🤣 Chase is quite excited...it such a beautiful day!

Chase is doing so well working on his winter weight gain. This evening he was able to keep up with my 7.5mph wheelchair almost the entire 1.5 mile run. I only had to slow down for him twice, as opposed to multiple times last week! Good boy Chase!!
