Maybe the reason we struggle as adults is that for the first 18 years of our lives, we are required to follow instructions. Authority is everything. We are not allowed to deviate too much from the norm; critical thinking only exists within a certain confine. A rubric.
And we hit adulthood and suddenly we are programmed for a factory setting we don’t get. We have no one who tells us how to function. We just have to “Figure it out” because we are now in the “real world, honey”. So often our ignorance is blamed on our generation, on laziness. You’re an adult, act like it.
Told to sit down and shut up all our lives, then suddenly we can only get by if we move and know how to talk the right way.
