[Flashback Christmas] Christmas Gift: Louis and Dominique
Fuck he hated being home. Aislinn wasn't going to be here until the end of the break, and until then he was stuck with his family, and the rotating door of his extended family coming and going as though they actually lived here. Aunt Ginny and Grandmother Molly were the worst; barging in and walking around the house and calling him in from the beach as though they were his parents, as though they had any right to tell him he was out too late and needed to come in, to which he'd always reply with a wave and a pretending that he couldn't hear their actual words.
Though even their constant showing up was preferable to his immediate family's constant presence. It seemed like while Victoire spent equal time out with Teddy or here talking about Teddy, his mother and second sister were always around, always bothering him and questioning him and talking to him when all he wanted was to wander the mostly-empty boardwalk and surf a little in the freezing water.
Like now. Dominique was already in the kitchen as he came in the back door, shedding his jacket and tossing it in the general direction of the hooks to the side of the door, not bothering to see if he'd made it. It had been a surprisingly good afternoon; a few of the townies had showed up at the boardwalk, hoping to replenish their personal stocks in order to make it through a family holiday, and he had a nice little chunk of change in his pocket. But the pleased expression morphed into an eye roll as he spotted Dominique at the table and passed her with only a nod in greeting as he went to the refrigerator to get a glass of tea.
[Christmas] Shrieking Shack | Bryce & Louis
theinquisitivelion:
“I’m too tired to move,” she groaned throatily and tilted her chin up to look at the expanse of gray sky. The lion had thought it best to take temporary residence in a snowbank off to the side of the Shrieking Shack. The gloomy building loomed overhead, casting shivering shadows over the grounds of the estate. There were plenty of kids who dared not adventure into the hollow belly of the haunted beast, but Bryce was not one of them. Those who cowered at shadows were all lame ninnies and she wouldn’t have anything to do with them.
“The Shrieking Shack is one of the only good places to go to,” Bryce drawled as she sat up, hauling herself into an upright position, her winter robe, cold and caked with clumps of ice and snow. “Nobody comes here; and it isn’t even as creepy as they all think. Am I right?”
The lioness stood suddenly and fought for a moment to catch her balance. In one hand, she clutched at a bottle, half depleted, of mulled cider; a spicy brew that she had nicked off a Slytherin student during her last class before break. It smelled of cinnamon and thyme, harboring a certain musk that made her mouth water and cheeks heat with anticipation.
“Everybody likes to go to the Three Broomsticks, but I’d rather hide out here until the train is ready to leave.” The words spilled were tinged with the lull of sing-song and the joyful teen was helpless to appear the least bit sober. Hopefully nobody would catch a whiff of her breath for surely, they’d taste the intoxication on their own tongue. The raven-haired girl flashed a crooked, charming grin and took another sip from the bottle.
"You know they say it's a sign of crazy when you start talking to yourself." He teased from his spot on the fence where he was watching her wander in circles and ramble to herself. "I get the sense you're trying to talk TO me, but you seem to be happier with yourself." He laughed.
"I dunno, I like the Three Broomsticks. Lots of people, lots to see, lots to hear. It's a good place to be in the middle of everything. But I suppose hanging out at a creepy abandoned werewolf shack is cool too." Teddy and James loved telling the stories of the Shrieking Shack, about how Remus would use it to transform, protected by James' namesake and the other boys. Teddy made it a rule that with every Hogsmeade visit, they had to see the Shack, had to reminisce about the past. Even as a first year, Louis hadn't wanted anything to do with it, but he'd tailed along anyway, despite his opinions being ignored or thrown away. After he'd met a few of his Slytherins, he'd stopped coming with his cousins, but the stories still remained.
"Now the real question, Miss King; what exactly are you hiding from? Seems more like drowning from where I'm sitting." He said with a pointed look to the bottle in her hand, but his expression was still teasing. If she wanted to get pissed before the train left and risk getting caught by a staff member, that was her business. He'd just make sure she didn't pass out in the snow and die of hypothermia. That was all he owed anyone having a good time.
[Pre-Gryf/Huff Game] Bruised and Battered: Louis and Phoebus
phoebus-wright:
“I hardly see that as fair. Why should I always have to be the one watching out for you.” Rolling his eyes, Phoebus sided as he turned away from him. Over you. Phoebus meant over all but he was lucky enough that Louis even agreed to that. “You know that’s not what I meant? I swear, you’re trying to test me. You’re always testing me…” He only stopped talking because he could feel Louis’ gaze upon him. “What are you looking at?” he questioned, “If anyone should watching the other so intently, it should be me. You’re still not going to let me take you to the nurse, are you?” It was a stupid question, Phoebus knew that,t but he had to at least try again.
“Weren’t? That means we are now?” Obviously anyone else who would had walked into the room would be able to tell that things were more then alright between the two boys, but Phoebus still liked to hear it. Wrapping his fingers around the boy’s wrist as he hovered over him, he gave off an easy smile “They were excited, I don’t think they were shocked though. I’m still waiting for their letter back…” It was hard knowing that your parents weren’t proud, or at least didn’t show it, of the things you were accomplishing. Sure, both of his parents played professionally, but a national team was something big. Something to be proud of. And right now, everyone was happy for Phoebus, but no one really seemed proud. “It’s not that big of a deal mate.”
"Because you're the responsible one and I'm the dim one, I thought we already knew that, mate." He laughed. He knew he wasn't dim in the true sense of the word, but he was definitely the thoughtless one, the reckless one, the one that leapt off the cliff before looking to see if there was someplace soft to land under. Phoebus was smarter, Pheobus looked before he leapt and thought about things in a way Louis just... never did. But then he was turning away from him, and Lou cocked his head, wondering if he'd upset the other boy. But he hadn't said anything that wasn't true, nor had he agreed to anything he wouldn't keep, even if he had agreed in a too-Slytherin way. "Testing you is fun, though." He said when Phoebus looked back at him. "You should try it sometime." His face dissolved into a grimace as he shook his head. "No way. No nurse. I'm fine, it's just marks, they'll heal in a day or two it's no big deal."
"Course we are. It'd be a bit awkward seeing as I'm squashing you into the couch if we weren't." He laughed. He almost winced, just in anticipation at the touch to his wrist, but the fingers that wrapped around it weren't rough, and were still cold from the ice pack he'd been holding, and rather than exacerbate the pain, the cool touch soothed the aching and made him sigh in relief. "It is SO a big deal, what are you even talking about?" He asked incredulously. "You'll be on an International team, Phoeb. It's fucking incredible, don't sell it short. You've got to let me know what they say when they write back."
A Charlie Brown Christmas || Johanna & Louis
johannaxmcdermitt:
Johanna sincerely disliked Christmas at Hogwarts, she’d decided over the last few days. It wasn’t that it was too quiet for her; she liked the privacy, liked being able to go back to her room and floo her boyfriends or write them in quiet. She even liked that she could call the hospital her mother was staying at in quiet, without having to worry about the other students overhearing her arguing with the doctors and the billing department about accepting her payments and allowing her mother to stay until she could Apparate home.
No, what she didn’t like was that it was so festive. The suits of armor sang at intervals, and other students received presents throughout the break, and while Johanna was also receiving her own now, it was still a strange thing for her to witness. She much preferred it when she was alone in her dorm, hiding out from the more excitable students who lingered on the grounds and practicing her Divining mediums with greater frequency than she could during the semester when students were there.
It was almost the end of break by the time something actually went wrong. Johanna was just working on a crystal ball reading – well, getting frustrated with it, more like – when it happened. She was trying to get something good, and when she failed, she let out a frustrated groan and slammed her hand on the table without thinking about it. It happened quickly from there; the slam sent the crystal ball to the ground, and it shattered as quickly as it had started to fall, drawing a cry from Johanna’s throat as she moved around the table to try and see what was salvageable. “No, no no no, no, I can’t afford to replace you, please be fixable.”
Fuck but it felt good to be back at Hogwarts. Once Aislinn had arrived, the trip had significantly improved, but there was still his family there, so it could only improve so much. Now, if Aislinn had arrived and all his family had vacated somewhere else, it'd have been a picture perfect trip. But alas, his luck would never allow it.
But he'd managed to leave right before New Years, citing overdue work and needing to practice, claiming that with the new team lineup, with Aislinn pregnant and unable to play and needing to reorganize the team, he couldn't afford not to take full advantage of having some spare time while the castle was empty to practice. With the Weasley-Dealcours about to head to France to see Aunt Gabrielle, it was a perfect opportunity to slip away. His father had been annoyed and his mother had tried to convince him not too, especially since Dominique had specifically asked him if he was staying for New Years and he'd agreed. But he didn't muchcare; he'd had enough family, it was time to return to the castle.
He was passing the Hufflepuff dorm when he heard a shatter and a yelp from inside, and after a second decided to say screw it and tap the password to the common room, hoping it hadn't changed since a few weeks ago, and hurried into the room. "Hey, everything alrigh-" but it wasn't, that much was obvious. No one was hurt, it seemed, but Johanna was crouched on the ground, looking distraught down at a floor-full of glass. There were a few larger pieces, large enough to give away the telltale curve of a crystal ball, and while he still wasn't entirely happy with Johanna- being even accidentally drugged had made him a little wary- he dropped on the ground next to her. "Hey, it's ok, we can replace it, it'll be alright, did it cut you?"
[Pre-Christmas] Dazed and Confused| Lou&Arie
arie-slavkov:
Arie wanted to scream, yell, and object to him picking her up but the thought of excerting so much energy wasn’t appealing at all. So, Arie laid there in his arms grumbling lightly. “I-I’m not sure…” She trailed not looking up at him. It was true. She wasn’t entirely sure herself what had happened in the sky, but it scared her.
“Where are you taking me?” She mumbled her words barely audiable. Arie lay their in what felt like a daze. She was numb emotional, but the pain radiated from her neck, and head. She had a slight idea where he might be taking her and it made her heart jump, but before she started to worry she wanted to make sure.
"The nurses, of course." He said with a scoff, as though it was obvious. He tried to be careful not to jostle her as he walked, tried to keep her steady in his arms. She wasn't fighting; that too worried him. Arie was a fighter by nature, he wouldn't have expected her to so easily accept him picking her up and taking her wherever he wanted.
"Once they've given you the all clear, I'll vacate. But I'm gonna stay to make sure you're alright, yes?" He asked, trying to make it sound more like a question than an insistence.
Christmas Bells || Aislinn & Louis
aislinnxmarkham:
If there was one place that Aislinn loved visiting more than anywhere, it was Shell Cottage. It wasn’t so much for the people there, save one; she wasn’t intensely fond of the Weasley family as a whole, perhaps because of a lingering bias that was instilled by her father’s vaguely purist beliefs against blood traitors, or more likely because of the general distaste for his family that practically radiated off of Louis no matter how long he was away from them or how long he was close to them, for that matter.
Which was why, a couple of days after break started, Aislinn found herself Apparating out to one of their hideaway spots on the beach around midday. She’d spent the morning getting put through the ringer by Pomfrey, to ensure she was safe to travel and that she would be going somewhere safe for the baby, and while she’d meant to get there earlier, it was around two before she did manage to get there. It was only a few minutes walk down the beach before she was at the front door of the cottage, messenger bag of clothes on one shoulder as she lifted a hand to knock twice.
She could already hear, over the sound of the water behind her, the hustle and bustle of the Weasley family on holiday. Louis’s family was much too large for her liking, especially given she was an only child, but Louis was there, and that allowed her to overcome her instinctive want to avoid such a close familial atmosphere. When the door opened, revealing a pretty older blonde woman, Aislinn offered her best dazzling smile. “Bonjour, Mrs. Weasley. Is Louis about, or is he down by the boardwalk today?”
He was going to Avada Kedavra himself. It was illegal to use magic outside Hogwarts and illegal to use the curse, but really what could they do to him if he used it to kill himself? Anything had to be better than sitting here, stuck in the kitchen as his grandmother and a few aunts bustled around, as James and Rose argued over Quidditch, as Lily demanded attention in her Lily way and Teddy asked for the third time in ten minutes when Victoire was expected back.
"She'll be back when she's fucking back-"
"Louis!" Aunt Hermione scolded, shooting him a frown. "Language."
"My language wouldn't bother you if I were allowed to go to my room." He pointed out sarcastically.
"It won't kill you to socialize with your family for a bit."
You don't know that, He thought to himself. The doorbell rang and he heard his mother pressing past several other family members to the door, dropping his head into hands and praying for a meteor to strike. But the voice on the other side of the door, the voice he'd recognize past any number of bloody family members, made him lift his head and shove his chair back, loping toward the door as his mother started to direct Aislinn to the kitchen.
"Ais!" He scooped her into a hug, lifting her off the ground and spinning in a circle on the porch with her in his arms. Ignoring his mother completely, he set her gently on the ground and cupped her face, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I'm about to murder myself help." He whispered to her, pulling back to grin at her.
Already the holiday was looking up.
In a big box, wrapped in blue paper is a smaller box wrapped in green paper. In that box is a smaller box wrapped in red paper. In that box is a smaller box wrapped in gold paper. In that box is a smaller box wrapped in pink paper. In that box there is a microphone, a book titled “100 best sign off lines of all times. (Plus A Section for Opening Lines too!)” along with another book “How to Read A Quidditch Player’s Body Language From Your Announcer Box."
Weasley,
Actually read these, yeah? You’ll need a good sign off line if you get to keep playing in the announcer’s box. Also, you’ll have to be used to speaking into a microphone without putting you mouth on it I hear. Happy Christmas!
-Lane
Louis,
I know Shakespeare is far from the norm for what students here are interested in, but you might enjoy this more than you think. He was rumored to be a witch, you know. Anyway – Midsummer is one of my favorite plays, and I think you’ll like Puck as much as I do. The tickets inside are for my theatre group’s production, I’m playing Tatiana, and it’s going on between Christmas and New Years. There are two tickets there so you don’t have to go on your own, and if you don’t show, it’s totally understandable. As long as you read the play. Happy Christmas.
Cadence Annalise Richmond
Louis,
Before you scoff at this, try making sure there’s no alteration charms on it. You’ll need this shirt for next year. Most likely. Happy Christmas.
CR
When Louis casts a charm to undo the charms on it, he’ll find a plain black tee shirt with the Wimbourne Wasps logo on the front and Reserve Beater Rokonski on the back.
Louis,
You probably have something like this already, I’m not certain what your library looks like, but I remembered chatting about announcing with you before, and you seemed to really enjoy being in the booth, so when I saw this, I thought about you. It includes not only the Hogwarts limitations in the front, but also the Professional ones in the back, and a middle section on scouting and tips for announcers. I hope you enjoy it. Happy Christmas.
E. Harrison
Baked these for you down in the kitchen, love. They’ve got a bit of kindness and a whole lotta goof baked in there if you catch my drift. Tasty as fucking fuck and better than sex. Bold statement, I know, but it’s the truth. Merry Christmas. I really hope that these warm you up next time Alice makes you do drills for hours straight.
-Lioness
Louis,
I know it’s nothing grand. I couldn’t think of what to get you that no one else would be getting you, to be honest. But I figured, going with a book would be a good start. I hope you like the coat that’s with this as well – I had to guess a bit at your size, but leather’ll suit you better than most.
Happy Christmas,
Jo
Lou,
I’ve been working on this one since I visited you over the summer, so I hope you like it as much as I do. The flame charm is a new one, it’s the first time I’ve ever gotten it right. Hang it wherever you’d like – just make sure to cast moveo on it before you hang it, or it won’t move properly. Enjoy it, love.
Happy Christmas.
Ais
Louis,
You already knew what you were getting so I don’t know why I even bothered wrapping it. But figured that you had a set of season tickets for the Irish and also a few tickets for the different matches during the World Cup, gotta make sure I have at least one person cheering for me. I know your Uncle Harry probably got way better seats for your family, but these come with backstage passes. And who could go to a quidditch match without the proper gear? Now you won’t have any excuse as to why you’re wearing the other teams colors. Lastly, I included my autograph just for you for when I’m famous. Merry Christmas Lou and I can’t wait to see you when we get back.
- Phoebus D. Wright
Lane-
Maybe now you’ll be able to keep up with me on our runs. I expect you to love these and all their fashionable glory. (And don’t undo any appearance charms that may be on them)
-Lou
Once Chloe did actually undo the appearance charm he’d had Aislinn help him with, she’d find slightly less obnoxious shoes. Hopefully she liked the uncharmed versions. He wasn’t entirely sure her style, but he thought he’d done rather well.
[Pre-Christmas]
theinquisitivelion:
“You say it like it’s something I wouldn’t do,” she retorted. “And besides, why would I want to drink alone in the woods?” The lioness quirked a brow and tossed the red-haired boy a sly smile. “Drinking is boring.” As she spoke, Bryce procured a small vile from her pocket; a neat, little thing, capped with a cork. A label reading BK would around the thing body of it. “Potions are much, much better.”
At the snake’s remark, Bryce could do nothing but shake her head. “Was pathetically too harsh, Lou?”
He tilted his head, not following, until she showed him the bottle, until she teased him with what it was. He wasn’t all too familiar with potions side of drugging onesself out; he was more the solid and gas forms rather than the liquids. But he knew a couple, and he damn sure knew some people preferred the potions to his stock, which had never bothered him before, but neither had it made him inclined to try or to start brewing his own. There were better people to concoct the potions, and he did just fine with his own side of things. “You’re crazy, lion girl.”
“A bit, yeah. I like to think I rise above pathetic even in my darkest hours.” He laughed. “C’mon, let’s go hang out in the woods like stoners so I can at least make sure you don’t pass out.”
