derek who is an arrogant, self-confident asshole, using his smarts against others. he feels superior, in some ways, to others and is convinced that he could solve any puzzle that come his way, and even after he gains infinite knowledge he either a) drives himself insane with the fact this was put upon him against his will, which not only he hates feeling that helpless, but also the fact he probably knows now he was a bad person or b) derives some sick pleasure in knowing that he quite literally knows. everything. it boosts his ego, no matter the dilemmas that he’s aware of because he has this feeling

a lot of the canon events in the series were probably forced to some capacity. rather than, say, avery going to find derek on his own because he feels compassion and sympathy for the random stranger who tried to save him, avery probably only goes because he’s pressured into it. rather than derek going out of his way to warn avery, there probably was some foul play involving the king in yellow
