Digital Comic Books Add to Industry
Comic books still thrive in the digital age. Companies have created virtual comic books that can be purchased and read on an electronic device, but these do not diminish the sales of physical copies, as digital comic books make up only 27% of all direct sale revenue. The digital revolution adds to the comic book community without consuming it.

Background on Comic Books
The history of comic books is broken up into different eras spanning as far back as the Pioneer Age in 1500 all the way to the present Modern Age. The best known era is the Golden Age of Comic Books, 1938-1949, which was launched with the release of the first ever superhero comic book: Superman, and this created a new theme for the industry.
During the Atomic Age of Comic Books focusing on crime and supernatural, which followed the Golden Age after the end of WWII dimensioned the popularity of superheroes, Dr. Frederic Wertham wrote “Seduction of the Innocent,” accusing comic books of influencing children to become criminals. To avoid any issues with the government, comic book companies worked together to form a set of rules, referred to as the "Code."
Superheroes peaked again in the Silver Age, when the popularity spread to young adults, especially in colleges. DC created the Justice League, banding together many superheroes that readers loved, to create one awesome team. In response, Stan Lee of Marvel created the Fantastic Four to give Marvel an edge as well.
Since, comic books have become digital, just like the rest of the world, with readers possessing the ability to download entire issues on their computers, phones or tablets. However, many still prefer to own after physical copies.
