Ezreal’s confidence in finally earning victory was more than enough to earn him a laugh, low and as smooth as whiskey. “You sure about that? I’ve a feeling that Lady Luck’s got her pretty lil’ hand on my shoulder tonight, but if you’re gonna be insistent...” A grin quirked the edges of Twisted Fate’s lips. “How ‘bout we raise the stakes, make this more excitin’ for you and me both? Whoever wins can get one item of any choice from the other--no matter what. Deal?”

A female Bilgewatian summoner trudged along the way to a local saloon after an exhausting yet successful day at the Rift. While she is happy about her results, she developed a massive headache for whatever reason. She arrives to the bar despite the noises getting to her and sits down in an empty seat. She calls out to the bar tender, "Gimme yer best rum!" it didn't take her long before she noticed a familiar dark clothed gypsy man next to her. ((hi c:))

"I’d get the whiskey if I were you, summoner,” Twisted Fate suggested, sparing her a quick grin as his fingers skimmed along his own glass. “Unless you’re into somethin’ cheap and dirty.”

“Heh, alrigh’. ‘EY! Scratch tha’! Make it a whiskey!” she exclaimed. He grinned and changed her drink to whiskey.

“Wha’ brings you here?” she asked.

“Now that’s a question everyone would have the same answer to. The call of a good drink, maybe even the chance of a lucky game...” he raised the glass to his lips and drank, relishing in the smooth burn of whiskey and the taste of something new. “Nothin’ too exciting ‘round these parts anymore.”

For all the chaos and lawlessness that popularly marked Bilgewater’s environment, there was also a routine. The same hustlers continued to hustle, while the same marks fell prey to their schemes each and every time. The same drunkards went to the same bars to get the same exhilaration and numbness than came with their drinks, and the same people flit in and out as the day began to wane.

Perhaps that was why, as soon as one very new and very unfamiliar woman walked through the doors of Fortune’s Favor, Twisted Fate was amongst the first to take interest.

“It isn’t every day that we get a fresh face around here,” he greeted, approaching her with a smile.

“Now here’s a face I haven’t seen in a while,” Twisted Fate greeted with a low chuckle. “Almost had me thinkin’ you were still sore about our last card game.”

Twisted Fate is addicted to thrills--anything and everything that gets his heart racing. The higher the stakes, the better, because it simply means there’s more to gain (but also more to lose).

In this regard, he’s very, very selfish. He’ll always put himself first and never invest too fully in any one thing or person. (But then again, he’s also human. There have been and will be times when he finds himself a little too deep, when he finds himself tipping his hand to reveal all the cards in his deck.

It never really ends well for him.)

Fate takes his time, as always, and it’s a reminder to Graves that luck isn’t on his side this evening. It’s in the way he greets him, his old partner, in the nonchalant way he addresses Malcom like he hadn’t been sitting around drinking for nearly an hour and a half at this rate. He regards Fate with whatever hospitality his poor mood and past aggressions allow. Graves grumbles, turns his face to look at Fate, that smug grin and certainty that settles in those pale blue eyes - they used to be green, as bright as Ionian jade.

“Yeah, fancy that.” Comes his stern reply as he sets his whiskey glass down. Destiny is beside him, as per usual, his only companion and the only girl Malcom has ever truly loved. “Who’da thought you’d be dragging your weight back here.” He’s unhappy because he knows he’s going to fall back in, it’s inevitable at this point, but he doesn’t have to make it easy. So he won’t.

He refuses.

“I don’t think you’d fancy a round of Zaunite roulette,” Graves gives Destiny a fond pat as the words leave his mouth, the cold steel of her barrel comforting. Another certainty. “so what’ll it be partner? Five finger? Or the usual deck of cards?” And he sounds so damn bitter.

“You’re the one askin’, but judging by your tone, I’d reckon you already know,” Fate replies, and laughs. It’s low and smooth, more like the burn of alcohol down a parched throat, and a part of him thinks briefly of how different it sounds compared to the raucous guffaws of two men drunk on booze and victory. 

It’s a memory that shines bright in mind only, and he can’t really say it reaches his heart.

“But let’s shake things up a little,” Fate continues, and with a grin that is both poison and antidote, truth and lies, he takes out a deck of fresh cards from his pocket. “And open things up with a little bet. If I win, you do me one favor of my choosing at any point of this night. And if you win--well,” with an easy shuffle, he deals out the cards; but not even once does his gaze leave Graves’ own, “I guess that’ll be up to you, partner.”

But even without magic, Fate feels it--the touch of Lady Luck on his shoulder, and as always, the a promise whispered into his ear. It speaks of satisfaction as if it’s ever been within his reach, and Fate takes the bluff.
