❛ —- because in a typical circumstance, one of us would be face down already. ❜
❝ Always so vulgar-- ❞
❝ This is why I can’t take you anywhere Barty. Honestly. ❞ he can’t help but grin regardless, a genuine grin. He hadn’t been going down that line of thought but he couldn’t deny it was certainly tempting....
❛ —- when it has it’s perks; however, i don’t see much coming out of that look in the foreseeable future, mate. ❜
❝ And how do you know that for sure? ❞
Let me be your distraction.
talk about space well it’s a beautiful place! but it’s so damn cold! just for the human race but for the planets and the stars everything else and mars it’s like paradise spread out with a butter knife
I’ll sift through a bunch of songs and if one really touches me in a certain way, I’ll keep playing it over and over—almost to the point where if someone else was listening they would find it nauseating and borderline torturous. I kid you not; I can listen to the same song back-to-back for two to three hours straight. I’m not psycho; I swear. There are some songs I won’t listen to any more because they are songs that helped me get to emotional places. Even if I hear it—someone’s playing a song that had that affect on me in the past—I’ll have to walk out of the room or turn it down. It sounds so strange but those things affect you in a certain way.

He’s pretty traditionalist in a lot of ways and definitely comes across as a proper pureblooded gentlemen but some of his preferences in things aren’t 100% traditional. He never touches any muggle content or media period but he has odd tastes in things like music and books. He likes to listen things that are basically wizard psychedelic pop, wizard vaporwave, and wizard experimental indie which are all not the most acceptable things for a nice proper young lad to listen to. His favorite musician is the wizard equivalent to David Bowie. His taste in books is usually towards the psychological and experimentally structured literally and narratively, Lots of cosmic and psychological horror and creatively laid out pages. His clothing, decorating and aesthetic are all very traditional however along with his thoughts on muggles, muggleborns and magical creatures.
❛ i know i’m good looking, but the ten minute fixation on my face is a bit much, aug, don’t you think ? ❜
❝ Aw but I thought you loved when I did that. ❞
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t Augustus Rookwood in the flesh. Are you not going to hug me and say hi?”
❝ Of course--❞ He gets up and pulls her into a perfectly tame and appropriately timed hug. ❝ --It’s so good to see you Sofia, what brings you here? It feels like ages since we last saw each other.❞
He looked up from his desk--
❝ Well, this is a surprise -- I wasn’t expecting any visitors today. If there anything I can help you with or is this a social call? ❞

❶ Rookwood is kind of a contradictory person personality wise. He is very methodical, intelligent and sensible, he seems to have a lot of patience and self restraint but the minute someone suggests he do something he knows is a terrible idea he takes it as permission to go ahead and do it if he really wanted to to start with. He adheres to many aspects of traditional pureblood belief and culture while actively trying to push the bounds of the known and acceptable regardless of opinions. It can create conflict with others at times because it can be hard to see where he’s coming from on a topic or tell if he’s saying things because he believes them or because he’s taking on the dissenting argument for the sake of discussion. ❷ When he’s with people like Barty or Antonin he relaxes and some of what he’s actually like leaks through. His real personality honestly weirdly close to the 'boy next door’ type so he still comes across as a lot nicer and more put together than some, but when he’s like just being himself he could easily be seen as even creepier than usual. He goes from 'stepford wife' to ‘entitled rich boy who might’ve killed someone but daddy’s lawyers solved it. Go Yale!’. He’s also more flirtatious than usual but it’s usually either kinda unsettling to hear or intentionally meant to mess with people.
❸ He has a fairly good sense of humor and can take a joke or two at his expense. Mostly he just likes being kind of ridiculous and getting a laugh or an eyeroll. He tends to only really joke with his friends since his sense of humor ranges from lewd to creepy. With outsiders he goes for more standard crowd pleasing humor and peppers it in here or there as the situation requires, whereas with friends it can be almost a barrage of weird/bad jokes. He let’s his friends get away with some potshots at him but strangers aren’t so lucky usually, he’ll laugh and seem to brush it off good-naturedly at the time but he marked it down and it will come back and bite them later.

❶ Life can seem very surreal to Rookwood, almost as if it wasn’t real. He observes people intensely and in most cases after a while a switch flips and he doesn’t see them as real people anymore but more like characters in a play or something. Interactions can feel like games for him, walking down the hall can feel like floating through a dream. It’s useful since it gives him another layer of detachment from others that helps keep emotions out of his manipulations but it can give him an odd air, like he’s a million miles away.
❷ Rookwood isn't a complete sociopath, as hard as it may be to believe at times. He does care for some people, feels emotion, and even some empathy if it’s someone close to him but he has some strong sociopathic tendencies. He genuinely doesn't care about people outside of his chosen circle, he is charismatic, manipulative and distant. He doesn't really understand morality and sees a lot of social norms and guidelines like the rules of a game rather than something valuable. His ideas of how things should feel can be distorted at times, like his concept of love, but he feels them and sometimes very intensely. His sociopathic tendencies are part of the reason why he's so successful but they're also part of the reason he can come off as too perfect, he’s literally playing a part.
❸ Rookwood would love to get married. Let’s pray for the poor girl who'd be marrying him it never happens though. Augustus seems like a great boyfriend and perfect husband material but only because he’s done the research and knows what he’s supposed to do to be considered such a catch. In reality his ideas of romance and relationships are not exactly healthy or accurate. His concept of how a romantic relationship works like is really closer to a BDSM relationship gone wrong. He’s highly possessive, suspicious and not above manipulating his girlfriends or isolating them from their friends and family if he feels threatened. He’s the classic Mr. Perfect-Gone-Wrong story, his only saving grace is that he is honestly kind of a romantic at heart and not so heartless that he wouldn’t make the attempt to not be so massively shitty if confronted about it correctly.
P l a y i n g N i c e ;
Rookwood has a sadistic streak he's been keeping under wraps for years now. He used to act on it when he was younger but after children started telling their parents he realized that just because his actions didn’t have consequences at home didn’t mean that applied to the rest of the world. He’d been exceptional on never acting on his darker impulses for years and then he meet Barty and things started to go downhill on the whole self control thing. After meeting Dolohov and joining the Death Eaters he has to genuinely struggle with himself sometimes to not do what he actually wants to and do what’s smart. The thing that saves him is that he has a lot more foresight than people like Barty and instead of just acting on an urge immediately he will bide his time until he can ensure the situation is in his favor and his chances of repercussions are minimum and that promise to himself to act on an urge later is what helps keep him out of trouble. Even then he’s still hilariously easy to convince to do some pretty heinous shit. If someone is trying to persuade him on something and he already kind of agrees or is already tempted to do it he resists about as much as someone does when they’re out to dinner and a friend is telling them to order a dessert.
they were a motley collection; a mixture of the weak seeking protection, the ambitious seeking some shared glory, and the thuggish gravitating toward a leader who could show them more refined forms of cruelty
