I’d already had some exposure to red-rights tumblr at that point, so for me it was more a shift of position on questions and arguments I’d already been hearing. I did do some reading (and re-reading), but half the things I can remember reading are linkrotted or out of date by now, so I can only be of limited help there. On the other hand, red-rights has ootched a little closer to mainstream nowadays, thanks to so many countries doing cleaning, and especially now that being decent to reds can make the difference between planets and not, so this kind of thing can be easier to citrus.
My biggest recommendation is to pace yourself. There’s a lot to absorb, but it’s not going to tip the balance of any kind of high-stakes issue if you take a couple weeks or so to come to terms with it. It’s better to take your time so you don’t burn out. Set aside time to sort out your feelings, separately from doing research; and separately from that, set aside time to not think about the issue at all and just decompress.
Yes, it’s bad. But you don’t have to upend your whole life over it, and you’re allowed to take the time you need to stay grounded and sane.
And remember this, too: it’s getting better. Cleaning is a thing now. The end is in sight. The time is coming, within our lifetimes, when no one will ever again have to be red.

That's like saying a corpse isn't pollution because it can become a fossil. Ex-reds are like fossils. The material in fossils is all new, but it is the shape it is because of the imprint that the corpse left behind. Ex-reds are the same way. The material is all new. It just happens that it's shaped like the red that it was made from.
okay uh so you seem to think that like, people are defined by the molecules they’re made up of and if those all change then they’re not the same person any more?

and like, even during just regular life the cells in your body are getting replaced with new ones all the time, but that doesn’t mean you’re slowly dying* and getting replaced with someone else! and ex-reds weren’t replaced by someone else either!

They are JUST. REDS. They're POLLUTION. How do you not understand that no matter how smart pollution is, no matter how Amentanlike its thoughts and feelings, it is POLLUTION and can't be morally relevant?
uhh if reds were just pollution then red cleaning would make them puff out of existence once all the pollution was gone, not turn them into a clean person

I'm glad you're coming around because you made me so ANGRY. And it's not your fault, I suppose, not really, there are so many people who are so much worse to us. You haven't killed any reds, or tortured anyone, or even been mean! But it made me so FURIOUS every time I read you being all "oh be nice to the animals!!! :) :) :) " and realized that it was THE BEST I COULD EXPECT. I had to be GRATEFUL for being looked down on, because I knew how much worse the alternative was.
