Brian ran through the woods in a rush. Branches whizzing by his face in a blur. Where was she? His heart pounded in his ears. God, let her be okay. What if she misjudged her steps and fell into the creek? Panic flared in his chest as he neared the clearing ahead. The moon was brighter than usual and his eyes stung at the warm light above.
The final tree in front of him disappeared and the lush field greeted him with its usual calm. The green blades of grass came to life in the soothing glow of moonlight. And up ahead, he saw her. His heart stuttered to a calm at the sight of her. Her silhouette stood tall in the moonlight. Even from afar she was beautiful.
“Celestia” he called out. Surprised at the desperation in his voice. His feet moved slower than normal as he approached her. The hairs on the back of his neck tingled with sudden excitement. What? Surely his eyes must’ve been fooling him because the closer he came to clearer he saw what was in front of him.
Her black curls no longer stood in the pillowy halo she donned every day but fell in white waves that stopped a couple inches shy of her hips. the closer he got to her the warmer the air around him got. Butterflies took flight in the pit of his stomach. “Celestia…” he called out again as his arms reached for her shoulders.
He watched in awe as she turned to him. Irises white as snow hid behind white lashes so long they reminded him of butterfly wings. Her skin mimicked the glow of the moonlight. He watched in silence as she took her fingers to his face and held his cheek. Warmth spread throughout his core. A smile made it’s way across her lips as she looked into his pale green eyes.
“Your eyes. Your eyes are green”
His brows furrowed in confusion. “Wha- how can you see?”
Her fingers traced over the furrowed brows gently as she giggled into the crook of her arm. His heart stammered at the sound of it.
“I stand before you glowing with white hair and the fact that I can see is what shocks you the most? Brian Kim, you are one silly man”
“To be honest, I’m pretty sure I’ve died and gone to heaven” he replied calmly.
Her hands stilled around the tips of his ears.
“Ask me again and ask me what you truly wish to know” she whispered into his ear.
“How is this-” he took the glowing white strands of hair into his hands. “-happening? How are you able to see me. I mean, I’m not complaining. I’m actually glad you can see me. I mean, I want you to see me. Do you like what you see? No, that doesn't sound right-”
Celestia giggled at the boy before her. Handsome in his state of awe and confusion.
“- I mean is the world as beautiful as you imagined it?”
“Would you believe me if I told you all of this was because of my mother?” he nodded in her hands. “She missed me and when she misses me, I go to her” Her slender fingers pointed towards the night sky.
