Seriously though I think the short film did a great job at showing the power imbalance in the relationship and the manipulative nature of the age difference between them… just compare the dinner party scene with his friends to the birthday party scene with hers and it’s like. Completely different worlds. Just two totally different stages of life. All I could think while looking at Sadie Sink (who acted her ass off by the way) was damn, she’s young. It’s a relationship that was inherently doomed just by the sheer fact of the relationship itself. Which makes it even more tragic.

Then I remember that Dear John exists and I just. I am NOT ready. Don’t you think 19’s too young?

Anyone notice how Sadie Sink dresses differently (more mature, going for an older look) anytime there’s a social event involving Dylan’s friends in the ATW Short Film?

Like for 90% of that film the age gap between them is very apparent, except for the dinner party with his friends and that social event where she’s waiting for him and feeling out of place?

To me that just surmised how he didn’t make her feel comfortable enough in that setting to be herself.

Am I over analyzing?

For that one scene in the All Too Well short film, where Dylan O’Brien is going “you’re holding me hostage over a moment I don’t even remember”, I’m 100% convinced that Jake Gyllenhaal actually said that at one point like that is too meta and characteristically douchey to be fake

No but I felt uncomfortable through the whole thing and LOVED IT cause that's how we're supposed to feel as this 30 yo bearded full grown man is seen gaslighting a young woman, showing emotions

I can’t stop thinking about when he threw the car keys and got agressive on the phone and suddenly she was unsure and looked so much younger and ‘anytime now he’s gonna say it’s love’ but then he turns around and there’s an edge to his expression that she’s never seen before

Ok lets talk about the parallel between the bday party scene where Sadie is surrounded by friends but still looks sad and lonely, and the Lover music video where its just her and him blowing out the candles and she looks so happy and at peace. Its not how many people are in the room, but who.
