love and hate are the spectrum of intensity and he’s never used love as a conduit before, and that’s what he does with liquid... at first it was the hatred and the violence he tapped into and felt through him... it started that way when they were kids, but having crushes on each other introduced an entirely different type of feeling to attach to, he begins doing things on his own... he chose to save his life on the island when they're children, he chose to remove the parasites from him with his own power... (returning a favor maybe) hes attracted to liquid's lust for freedom too of course, breaking free from his own handlers, taking orders from nobody, playing lord of the flies

tldr: liquid is essentially his deranged little prince, he broke his curse to be bound to other's will with true love ✨
