My friend from college (she's written for in New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle etc.!) interviewed me for her newsletter.

Check, Please! started in my screenwriting class, senior year. We were supposed to write the first 15 pages of a screenplay. I had this very strange case of senioritis — and this happens every time I’m at the end of my time at an institution — where I only wanted to work on one thing and didn’t care about anything else. In this case, I stopped doing everything for my other classes. I got B’s in classes that I could have easily gotten A’s in. I was like, “I’m going to write a whole screenplay.” I went insane. I interviewed hockey players. I interviewed the hockey beat reporter for the Yale Daily News. I watched documentaries. Read ethnographies. I went to a lot of hockey games.
