This is my leather working, machine embroidery, and sewing blog. I will be posting whatever projects I am working on here.

I have returned from vacation!
Finished quilt top dimensions: 100×100 inches or 256×256 cm)
I finally sat down and finished my massive autumnal crow quilt. I cut the blocks out about three years ago and then got overwhelmed by the prospect of figuring out placement. Gotta love the ADHD panic.
This quilt spiraled out from finding an awesome crow panel and my love of the traditional poem about counting crows. The center most block has the poem machine embroidered, which required the fabric to be rehooped every 4 inches (10 cm).
The other block features a giant crow appliqué which was done with a freezer paper template that I made.
After much struggle, I finally got a good picture of my pride quilt!!! The quilt top is an 86-inch (218 cm) square.
I really love how the quilt top came together! I didn't have a solid vision about which blocks I would use to complete this project. The binding fabric is going to the same batik used to frame out the LeMoyne Star blocks in each corner.
The majority of the border is made up of 12 inch Friendship Star blocks. I really fell in love with the Friendship Star block and will definitely use it again!
I will definitely be longarm quilting this project and just need to schedule a time to quilt it.

From scraps to squares!! I will be framing the corners of the lone star block with these.
Lemoyne stars for the second border. These blocks had y-seams, which are annoying, but garment construction has presented worse challenges. I had never done lemoyne star blocks before, but I like using my scraps!
More blocks are to be made to fill out the second border!
LONE STAR COMPLETE! This square block measures 60 inches (152 cm).
I was originally planning on making this a throw quilt, but now I want to build it out into a larger quilt. Time to think about borders!

With all the diamonds completely assembled, I have begun to build the block out to a square.
I used half square triangles (HSTs) to fill the spaces between the diamonds. By using HSTs instead of squares, I avoided the dreaded y-seams.
I might add some appliqué to the big black corners or maybe add free motion motif.
Six diamonds done and two to go!
I did decide that the white would go in the center. I made the decision as a way to symbolize the importance of our trans elders, who were often at the forefront of fighting for our rights. It also shows that we can never be excluded from our community.

So, I decided to start my pride quilt before Pride Month ends!
It's a traditional Lone Star quilt block design which looks like this.
After cutting all my strips from my yardage, I assembled my big six strip sets. There are six permutations like the one shown below.
After pressing all of the seams open, more cutting must be done. Each big set gets cut at a 45° angle.
One diagonal strip from each permutation is used in a diamond section. The overall lone star block is made of eight diamonds.
The diamonds will look like this! Now, I just gotta sew the diagonal strips into diamonds.
