(Previous) Judith tensed when the doors opened automatically. She paused for a beat, and with hesitance, she stepped inside. She creeped up to the kiosk, staring at the options. “Hmm…” She murmured, rubbing the top of her head. With an adjustment of her glass, she selected the request help button since she had never been at the Rat Emporium before. While she waited, she held her hands in her lab coat pockets. She glanced over at the toys excitedly. A part of her urged themself to go play at their hearts content, but she decided to stay put and watch at a distance.
“Hello and welcome to the Ratporium!” A bubbly, high-pitched voice played from the kiosk. “I’m currently in the middle of something but I’ll be with you soon!”
“Estimated wait time:” The audio quality dropped just enough to notice, a clear sign of a switch from a pre-recording to live response. “15 ± 10 minutes. There’s a bathroom to your right if you need it.”
Judith blinked at the kiosk as it played out their wait time. What joy! With a grin, she scuttled over towards the toys, and she pulled up one of the seats, admiring the playset closest to her, the bead maze. They immediately began pushing and proding the multicolored bulbs through their respective trams.
She thought for a moment, then she maneuvered the beads all to one side. She sat back, satisfied with the neatness, a stark contrast to her laboratory. She hummed a chuckle, then grabbed one of the dinosaur toys. She rested her elbow on the table with her other arm, then with laze, made the small dinosauria gnaw at the beads, like a large lizard terrorizing a town.
She smiled to herself, completely forgetting where she was or what she was supposed to be doing...
The creature outside my window that has been building a nest all week finally had a baby!
Judith, in her fuzziest sweater, held a paper map in her hands of exactly where she needed to go. Her slippers squeaked on the dark tile as she scampered. She made sure to quadruple highlight the laboratory that stored bountiful packs of rats, just in case they got lost in the winding maze of halls. She checked her surroundings just before she made it to the workroom. With a concerned expression, she reached her hand up and knocked on the door, stepping back with caution. She needed these creatures for her work, but she did feel a pang of guilt every time she had to acquire them.
Lately, she hasn't left her own lab in quite some time. Come to think of it, she was out of sorts as well. Perhaps they were drowning in the dishevelment of one of her friends being wrung out from her own brothers doing, or it was the fact that same brother acted so recklessly that it nearly cost him his life.
Her lid furrowed, but she took a deep breath, thinking of hot tea or new slippers to buy online in her comfy bed. Eventually, she put on a weary smile, stuffing her map in her pocket, trying not to appear as tired as she was.

When Judith approached the rat laboratory she could see large, glowing letters arranged in an arc above the doors saying, “Rat Emporium!” Said doors automatically opened before they could even touch them.
The entry room largely resembled the cart area at the entrance of supermarket aside from a kiosk, set of chairs, and a table with toys that would be more at home in a pediatric office.
There were two options displayed on the kiosk: Fill out a request form or request help now.
Judith tensed when the doors opened automatically. She paused for a beat, and with hesitance, she stepped inside. She creeped up to the kiosk, staring at the options.

(prev) Judith’s smile widened upon seeing the spare parts. She took them into her hands, then let out a small huffy laugh. “Classic Teddy!” She bucked one leg to spin her chair towards an empty wall. They pushed a panel on the laboratory surface, and once a part of the wall caved in, it came back, then revealed her prototype. She didn’t mind showing her secrets to Bert, especially since she wanted to keep closer ties to fellow scientists in case she needed another pair on hands on deck. She scooted over to Bert again, presenting it to him and then laying it onto his hands. “Here she is! Beautiful lady, I must say so myself.” She chuckled. “Don’t worry, it’s on safety.” She shut her lid in a grin, then took another bite of her cake. “Take a gander at it if you want!” She offered while chewing. She reached out to Sherri Jr., offering her hand to pick her up.
Bert loved watching the panel on the wall present Judith’s project. His eye sparkled as he beheld the EFFI. He held it gently like an egg until they said it was on safety. He examined the various components of it intently and curiously.
“Why, she is beautiful! Quite literally. Very aesthetically pleasing. Many overlook that part of designing weaponry.”
He pointed it in a random direction to imagine what it would be like to shoot it. “All of the science departments were certainly abuzz about the, ah, melted hallway. As soon as I could I hurried over to the site to observe the damage. And, wow, was it incredible! How does it work, if I may ask?”
Sherri Jr. allowed Judith to pick her up and was going to settle comfortably in her lap until she got a better whiff of the cake. It was enticing. While Bert was rambling, Sherri was sniffing at Judith’s face and fork.
Judith happily placed Sherri Jr. in her lap, then got a piece of cake and held it out for her to take. She let her hand stroke her back, throughly enjoying how her fur felt between her fingers.
They perked up when Bert asked for information on her beautiful project. Also, her confidence swelled at the word of mouth of how fascination struck the other scientists, yet she felt bad about the melted hallway, feeling like she could have done the janitors a favor and cleaned it up or repaired it for them.
She grinned, going on about how her weapon worked and every precaution about it.
"—and with these!" She gestured to Teddy's gift and put a culicued hand up. "It'll be even more powerful! Then we will concur the galaxy under the rule of The Hater Empire!! Mwoahah!" She giggled manically but settled down soonafter. "Ah— anyway..." She coughed into her hand.
"Let's get back to the matter at hand, Berty! How are those microbes?" She asked excitedly, lid up in anticipation, at the edge of her seat.

(prev) Judith happily listened along, swinging her legs while she sat in her chair. When Bert mentioned someone else, she moved her head to stare at the entrance of her lab. She was slightly nervous at the idea of another person who she didn’t know entering. Then, when she heard shuffling and scampering, she turned their head to be greeted by the lovely Sherri Jr! “Ah! ¡La mujercita!” She shut her eye in a smile, then began to pet her delicately. “Hello, the dignified Sherri Jr!” She looked to Bert, then once the cake and present was pulled out of the carrier, addressed from Teddy, she frowned deeply. Her heart was aching and painfully mornful for their friend. She took the gift and sighed softly. “That was really nice of him.” She murmured, taking the cake and opening it up to take a bite. She missed Teddy. She could only imagine how much Bert did as well. They shook her head, then blinked. It was her celebration! She should bring the mood back up, even if it would be nicer if Teddy was with the both of them. “What’d he get me?” They asked with their mouth full, taking the gift again and beginning to tear it open with a small grin.
Bert’s smile wavered upon seeing Judith’s doleful expression when they received the gifts from Teddy, knowing how she must be feeling. But he maintained his positive attitude and added, “He is a nice guy!”
Bert watched Judith open the gift with anticipation. “I believe it is material that may help with your incredible marvelous spectacular EFFI!”
Sherri Jr. stood on her hind legs and leaned against Judith’s chair, also interested.

How are you so positive?
hehe , truthfully, i have taken too many hits and learned not to fall down completely anymore. i am stubborn in that way . however, i have flaws as well . i think all lifeforms do 👁 for example , my disorganization and my oversensitivity. flaws are what make us whole, though ! faster you accept them , and find others who do as well , repair is on the horizon ! small steps .
Spending today with anyone special, Doctor?
me ?!??? oh , hahahehe , no , not particularly ...
happy valentines, everyone !! :-) hope you all are spending time with your loved ones ! many thanks , and i love you ! :-) 💚💚💚💚

(prev) Judith grinned, taking Bert’s word of being well at face value. She swiped off her coat, folding her hands behind her back after. “I’m so glad!” Judith replied. “I’m doing great!” She hummed, her lid upturned. Understandably, her nerves were fried from her brother, not to mention that one of her closest friends was in custody. Anytime she even thought of what happened, it gave her the jitters something fierce. So, as always, when a problem came up, she settled her nerves with tea, meditation, and lively social events. The skullship did have a relatively bustling underground jazz scene, which is where her heart resided for now. “Anyway, just over here,” They bounded to a nearby workbench, which had a few parts of her acclaimed but prototype weapons. She swept them over and grabbed a few of her rolling laboratory chairs for them. “I’m excited!” She clapped once she got onto a seat, swaying her legs. “Bacteria are awesome, I wonder which microbes you brought, dude!” They giggled. “I usually never celebrate, so this is a nice change of pace.”
Bert trotted after Judith to the workbench and curiously eyed the prototype parts until she swept them away. Then he set his box down and carefully removed his pack and set it on the cleared surface. As he did, he replied, “Oh, I have stained slides from all over the galaxy. I am excited to show you! But first, I brought along someone to help us celebrate…”
He unzipped the cover of the carrier, fully revealing Sherri Jr. in all her cozy glory. She yawned and clambered out of her nook so Bert could set her on the ground. She walked over to Judith to greet her, remembering her kindness from when they first met.
Next, Bert opened the compartment in the base of the backpack, sliding out a boxed cake that had been slightly crushed under the weight of the large rat. He also carefully removed another package and handed it to Judith.
“From Teddy,” he said with a soft smile. “The cake is courtesy of him as well.”
Judith happily listened along, swinging her legs while she sat in her chair. When Bert mentioned someone else, she moved her head to stare at the entrance of her lab. (prev) “Bert? Is that you?!” Judith called from behind the door. “Hold on, let me get past this— AH!” A loud clattering bang sounded, muffled from behind the wall. Shuffling could then be heard soon after, soon the beeping of the lock. Finally, Judith appeared from behind the entrance. “Berty!” Judith cheered, putting her arms up like a bear. She reeled in and brought Bert in for a hug, squeezing him. She then immediately fell back, releasing her hold and putting her arm behind her back, adjusting her glass with her free hand. “I’m totally beyond happy to see you!!” She beamed, then glanced behind herself. “Oh! Come in, mind the mess…” She cracked up, her laugh a bit nasally, stepping into the darkness that was her dimly but warmly lit laboratory. “So, how’s it going?” She asked while they pushed one of her wheeled carts that was piled up high with beakers out of the way to make room.
Bert flinched at the sound of the clattering. He was about to yell out to ask if Judith was okay, but the door opened to reveal she was!
Their enthusiasm was infectious. Bert smiled wide and carefully shuffled his box of slides to one hand and hugged them back as if they were old friends.
“Yes, it is wonderful to see you again!” Bert replied as he followed Judith in. He couldn’t help but grin as he scanned around her lab. “Ah, not to worry, messy labs always feel the most inviting to me.”
His own lab wasn’t even messy like this anymore. If Bert’s assistant Moe wasn’t hounding him to keep it tidy, then she was cleaning it herself. But Bert had come to accept it, reluctantly.
“It’s, uh, going swell,” he hurriedly replied to Judith’s question. Truthfully, Bert had been stressed lately. There were a number of reasons, the biggest being the wellbeing of his best friend Teddy in custody. He assumed Judith was in a similar, if not bigger boat; their own brother was in the ICU. But Bert was hoping to have a pleasant time here; he didn’t want to immediately bring down the mood with worries.
“So! I have some items for you. Where should I set my bag?” he asked, scanning nearby surfaces.
Judith grinned, taking Bert's word of being well at face value. She swiped off her coat, folding her hands behind her back after.
"I'm so glad!" Judith replied. "I'm doing great!" She hummed, her lid upturned.
