I honestly think Gen-Z and younger simply does not understand how recent widespread smartphone adoption is.

I am not that old, and I didn't have a smartphone until probably late high school. For most of my life, many if not most people were not walking around with a magic internet machine in their pocket that they pulled out and used constantly for everything.

I didn’t have a legit cell phone until I was in Middle School in the 90s, I was still a teenager. It was a brick. My next cell phone was smaller and easier to use. Opening the internet was disastrous.

Hey all.

The good news: I’ve found True Love™️.

The bad news: my long-distance partner is disabled with worsening chronic illness and struggling to live alone in a state with very poor medical care. Most recently, a flareup of what we suspect to be MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) has worsened every other ailment and severely limited what my partner can safely eat, touch, and inhale without risk of anaphylaxis. 

This is scary for both of us. I’m in the process of trying to relocate, but my partner needs more support than can wait on me to find a remote job I can take with me. This GoFundMe is to help me afford to take time away from work (I do not get paid leave of any kind) and help get my partner stabilized with frozen meals and medical travel. 

What your donation will help me cover:

-travel expenses 

-food for me so I can avoid draining my partner’s supply of “safe” foods 

-loss of 3 weeks income as I take unpaid time away from work 

-more freedom to experiment with what my partner can safely tolerate; with MCAS, the only way to learn what is safe is through trial and error, as what is tolerated by one person may not be tolerated by another 

-any excess will go towards safe foods and other caretaking and accessibility needs

Your extraordinary generosity is going to allow us to get mold testing and make accessibility changes that will help my partner maintain stability while I’m not there. I’m overwhelmed by the kindness you have shown us both. This makes the kind of difference I wasn’t even allowing myself to daydream about. 💕

I’m going to keep the fundraiser open for now—anyone with or around chronic illness knows what a money sink it can be, especially while struggling to find capable providers or mitigate environmental causes.

I JUST MOVED IN! It’s a huge relief to be able to live together and not have to worry about leaving again. Now I can be a steady caregiver and actually sleep at night… long-distance relationships were already difficult, but chronic illness makes them agonizing. For much of this year I struggled with terrible insomnia that instantly resolved the moment we were under the same roof.

My partner has seen big improvements since this fundraiser was opened, but is still far from remission. I’m hopeful that time and continued treatment will eventually allow for a diet of more than nine ingredients (that is including olive oil and maple syrup) and less crushing fatigue, but for now I’m grateful that we’re able to sit upright on the couch together for a few hours almost every day.

I’m reblogging because my new job (restaurant industry) doesn’t start until September 11th and I’m running on fumes until my first paycheck. Any help would do a lot to tide us through.
