Francis Mazière (1924-1994) was a French ethnologist and archaeologist. A specialist in the Amazon, he is also recognized for his deep knowledge of Polynesian culture and his patient explorations of the Pacific Islands including, according to the title of one of his works, the “fantastic” Easter Island. In 1951, he organized an expedition to Guyana in Indian territory, crossing the Tumuc-Humac and discovering unexplored lands of Brazil.
