This is what I mean when Iām constantly having to tell teenagers:Ā āJust because you think youāre mature doesnāt mean itās okay to put yourself and other people in danger for the sake of roleplay.ā All it takes is one adult with bad intentions, one protective parent who takes action, and just like that, the law is involved and entire platforms are taken down. This is proof thatĀ āit wonāt happen to me!ā is never a guarantee.
actually ykw in all seriousness if someone was on cherp grooming kids i hope someone takes a tire iron to their head For Real
anyways, if anyone knows of alternative roleplay sites that havenāt been dead since 2014, now is a good time to cough em up.
for those not in the discord.
cherp ppl are fuckin wack
imagine thinking people are obligated to maintain a relationship with you, a complete stranger
when the oneĀ āitās not a kink and i refuse to tag my shitā raceplay kinkster is back.
āi donāt thinkĀ i am being rude. therefore, there is no way i can be wrong. my opinion is infallible.ā
cherp discord really be like
rando: posts a valid criticism of cherp in the tag.
bootlickers in the discord:Ā
"i'm leaving the site because i can't repost my prompt more than once a week."
i'm not saying you're the serial reposter that haunts cherp's every waking moment, but.
A good OC, for me, isnāt so much about the actual traits or appearance they have but the effort that goes into their creation and the confidence behind the person making them. I feel that a good writer is able to make any simple concept, whether trite or overdone, work in their favor. The rough guidelines I always try to shoot for in my characters are this:
Easily summed up in a single sentence. (Because complexity is good, but you need to have a core concept that wonāt get bogged down by tons of lore just to explain your character to someone unfamiliar with them.)
Well-rounded balance of both positive and negative traits. (Because you canāt have one without the other; too much good and theyāre boring and uninteresting, but trying to steer too far in the opposite direction makes them a fucking drag to interact with if there are no redeeming qualities whatsoever.)
A past that informs the kind of person they turn out to be, for better or for worse. (Because their history is just as important as their personality, and whether they slot neatly into their role because of the past that shaped them or they made a conscious effort to reject that and reinvent themselves says a lot about their character.)
Internal consistency, if not necessarily external consistency. (Because they have to make sense, even if their logic isnāt immediately apparent from the outside looking in. This is one of the more abstract points that can apply to a number of different aspects, whether itās their species, their behavior, or how they interact with the world around them. Itās also one of the hardest to get right, but broadly speaking, you need to have a clear idea of why they are what they are, and what makes them do what they do, and then stick to it. Donāt break your established consistency unless itās for a good reason, because it makes the character fall apart if done poorly.)
The rest is up to personal preference. Everything else is malleable and no one kind of character is going to work for every single writer out there, but these, to me, are non-negotiable aspects of good character writing.
horror stories aside, what do good OCs actually look like? what characters make you want to stay and hash out a roleplay?

people can care about two things at once.
letās get this straight. the mods of cherp:
nabbed the original cherubplay code.
uploaded the code onto a website.
opened the website with no vetting process or beta test.
get surprised when the code breaks and blames their users for making mistakes.
very cool! very mature!
What are you talking about. Cherp IS in beta.
thatās on me, i must have missed that somewhere. but, and please correct me if iām wrong here, isnāt beta testing usually more restricted? before it went down, just anyone could log onto cherp and go about their business. there was no restriction on features or on who could join. asides from the general vibe that this site was new and tentative and had the potential to fizzle out (as with any new site), i didnāt get the sense that it was in beta.
This was an open beta. Which essentially is made so people can use the site while theyāre still testing it and working out kinks with the understanding it isnāt stable. It was also announced at launch as being open beta.
okay, i understand now. thank you for the explanation!

itās not appreciated to have a ton of people hounding you and openly using a basically anonymous blog to criticize their efforts in running a new site. This is not something they have to be professional about. Itās also not something they have to do. like how you donāt have to be so judge mental?
the cherpmods arenāt looking. you donāt have to bend over backwards to defend them. itās okay.
