My lesson with the extraordinary James Mongrain at Chihuli’s Boathouse included watching him and his team make me whatever I wanted - so I drew a design, and picked the colors for a large, bowl-like plate. It was beautiful - perfect - but it shattered during shipping. I literally was stunned when we opened the box and discovered the broken piece. This kind of thing doesn’t happen often - they ship pieces all over the world. But it happens. This is glass, after all, and sometimes, even for the greatest artists, it breaks.
