Lieve Prins - Cope Scan Art

'To create a work on the copier or scanner her [human] models lie on a warm glass plate, twisting into strange positions. Lieve Prins calls it ‘Horizontal Theatre’. In her most recent work, a coöperation with Aruba-born artist Shakiro Werlemans, consisting of a series of female torso’s, the role of gravity is reversed. The model is not lying on a glass plate with a camera underneath, but on her back with the camera on top of her. ‘Horizontal Theater’ in reverse. The female torso’s are the result of a performance in which the models themselves played an important role. They are portraits of the women exposing their personality by means of self chosen objects, symbols and ideas. The series engages in the connectedness of women with their body as part of their identity.'

Kyung-Woo Han - Rorschach Tests

Korean artist Kyung Woo Han creates intriguing works of art that often use optical illusions to illustrate the interpretative nature of perception. For his latest project titled "Plastic Rorschach", Han has assembled a series of boldly graphic Rorschach-like compositions using the simplest of materials - plastic bags. Speaking about his work Han says, “All the facts are relevant. People see what they want to see. One fact can be interpreted in several ways depend on our perceptions. In the opposite, two different facts can be looked the same. My work deals with perception and illusions. Everything we see or what we know is not absolute. I suggest various ways to perceive things with slightly different perspectives.”

Mike Winkelmann (aka Beeple)

Mike Winkelmann, a Wisconsin based designer who works under the name Beeple, is a rather prolific creator. For the past six years he’s created an original image every day, and this year he says he’s focusing on programs such as Cinema 4D, Octane Render, and X-particles. The outcome of this image a day endeavor is a trove of science fiction looking works that are unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Luka Fineisen, German Installation Artist

Luka Fineisen creates installations that invade gallery spaces using (seemingly) natural elements like bubbles, sand, and ice. Her materials are varied. In the case of her most recent installation, the bubbles are not made of soap solution, but plastic. They imitate the real thing perfectly, creating an ethereal experience for the viewer.

Are there any artists or movements you are interested in particular?

I am particularly interested in a group from the 17th century called the Schildersbent or Bentvueghels — a group of mostly Dutch painters who pilgrimaged to Rome to paint and engage in bacchanal rituals. They were considered lowbrow and included Otto Marseus van Schrieck and Matthias Withoos. Very interesting history.
