When Acquaintances Reunite (08/07/2019)

It’s way past my bedtime

So tell me why I’m still up

Thinking about the way your hand

Just lightly brushed against mine

And how you stopped your conversation

To give me your full attention

At the moment I thought nothing of it

It was perfectly normal behavior

Just two acquaintances meeting up again

But then you leaned in really close

To avoid the crowd I assumed

So I shuffled to give you space

But in a matter of time I wasn’t so sure

What’s a girl to believe when you look at her like that?

I had just finished convincing myself

You were just a victim of poor lighting

And I of wishful thinking

And then you introduced me

I didn’t expect you to

What would you even introduce me as?

You turned to me and smiled

“This is my…” you said

There are no words for the feeling

You introduced me as yours

And before that moment I would have never guessed it

But now I don’t know that I can ever be anything else
