HONG KONGERS ARE FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHTS
I haven’t seen this reach enough international recognition so please reblog and signal boost!
you may not have heard of or care about hong kong, but we are currently undergoing one of the biggest and most unified protests in our city. over a million people turned out to protest against the Chinese extradition law which will allow the Chinese government to destroy our city’s autonomy. the chief executive of hong kong (the closest thing to a president or a prime minister, and is “democratically” elected by the legislative council), carrie lam, denies that beijing has any part in the extradition bill, which is very obviously false.
this comes right after the anniversary of the tiananmen square incident, which China is also trying to oppress, both in Hong Kong and in the mainland.
protesters shut down central and admiralty, the central business district, and prevented government officials from making it to the government building. they also shut down large scale stores, businesses, main roads and as a result, public transport. they even shut down the admiralty underground train station, which is one of the busiest in hong kong.
on the 11th and 12th of June, things got violent. the police began using tear gas and rubber bullets against the protestors, as well as attacking journalists who were on the scene to report the events. they’ve sent people to hospitals, and it gets more horrifying when you realise majority of the people protesting are high school and university students.
president xi jinpin is threatening to send the People’s Liberation Army to south china if the protests don’t stop, which is a huge violation of the basic law, the statute that protects Hong Kong’s rights as a special administrative region.
in conclusion the extradition law is a complete violation of both the basic law and the sino-british joint declaration that promised back in 1997 that Hong Konger’s ways of life and capitalist system would remain unchanged until 2047- the agreed upon 50 year handover period. the Chinese government is doing its best to repress our voices but we need to show that we won’t back down. if you want to learn more, just google “hong kong extradition bill”.

please reblog and spread the word of our fight for human rights!! this needs to reach international media.
TRIGGER WARNING- BLOOD AND VIOLENCE
We need your help.
I guess I will be taken to prison by Chinese government one day, because of this art I drew, or the things I said.
I am from Hong Kong. As you may not know, this is a special administration region of China. We (still) have our own legal system, and freedom of speech, that’s why I can access to everywhere in the internet without censorship (I get ask a lot). Recently, over a million of people are protesting against the Extradition Law. It was an extremely-almost-impossible fight and many students are injured horribly by the police force. I WAS THERE.
If the extradition law is passed, which means that China can “took” anyone from Hong Kong back to China as “prisoners”. Oh you don’t wanna know what China will do to those innocent people …
The government is forcing the law on us. We couldn’t do this on our own. We need more attention from other countries. Please spread this message out.

Actually I’m from Hong Kong, and this is what’s happening in my home.
