Pirates Have Infiltrated the Castle || Alejandro and Chiara

"Your welcome," he chuckled starting to walk with her. Strolling through the library he looked over the bookshelves, scanning the authors and titles for something that appealed to him. 

He did not mind her in anything. She still was a pretty, fair sight. He cleared his throat, looking away.

"I may just be able to. I’ve been meeting a lot of interesting people here. Maybe I do desire to settle, if it’s possible for me." He found that prospect terrifying though. How could he trust and let himself be vulnerable around one person? What would he do if he finally lowered his guard and they broke his heart? He could only smile and consider it. He didn’t know if he really meant those words yet or not.

"That would probably be very interesting. As King I would love to oversee something like that. To have a considerably talented general at your side as a ruler is a very good thing to have."

Chiara unconsciously bit her lip a little before she realized and stopped herself. It was easy for her to be polite or say things like thank you. It was neither in her nature or her upbringing. She wandered the library with him, seeing if there were any titles off the shelves that she could pick out. Most of them she had never heard of before, but she had read one or two and recognized quite a few more. She was sure the library would be a favortie place of hers here. She never had access to a library before, but their idea in theory was great. It was a place to go where everyone would leave her alone. That sounded wonderful.

She shrugged, chuckling a little, "That is something I would certainly be interesting to see. What person could possibly tame the great...Re Dei Ladri? I would certainly like to meet that person." She shook her head, thinking about him in a committed relationship. He certainly was loving enough for it. She had to admit, it was hard to settle down. She wasn't even sure if she was capable of it. Sure, she had come close before, but that was a very very long time ago.

Chiara smirked a little, looking up at him with an eyebrow raised, "So is that it then? After all these years the two of us are on the same side just like that. You as king and me as general, wielding armies and armadas in your name. I never thought I would see the day." She shook her head a little in disbelief.

Flora sighed and leaned against the table, “I don’t let it fly persay either, I slip a surprise in their food every once in a while and they don’t come back until a couple weeks later…if their lucky.” She said with a slight smile, not exactly saying that she poisoned them but that there was just a surprise. “I’ll go traveling after the competition then.”

"There you go. See, it isn't even that hard to get back at people." Although Chiara had enjoyed using poison on an occasion or two where subtlety was necessary, she much preferred the brute force route. To her, while poison got the job done, pain inspired fear. There was a reason for her reputation, "You should, it is a wonderful experience."

Flora sighed, “The last time I tried to make them see it my why I went to bed with a bruise on my cheek. I wouldn’t like that to be repeated.” She said softly, tracing shapes on the stone table top. “I would love to travel, but I wouldn’t know where to go and I have to stay at home to sign papers.” she said with a sigh, ever competitor seemed as if they had the most amazing lives and her life was just boring and bland.

Chiara waited until the one side was charred and chrisp before flipping the salmon and looking up at the girl, "See, that wouldn't fly with me. If I have a bruise on my cheek they are going to be walking away with something much worse...if they are even able to walk away." She chuckled a little, thinking of the last time she had walked back onto her ship with a black eye. The crew asked her what happened, ready to hunt someone down and she calmly explained that the man was under heavy armed guard now....after she had broken his leg...and maybe a few fingers too. "That's the point of traveling though, it's not where you end up. It's how you get there and the fact that you are ending up somewhere else."

"That sounds like fun, and I um took over my fathers buisness but I just get shot down a lot with ideas since I’m a woman…." She mumbled, not very proud of it. She tried to talk back at them but she’d just get yelled at even more and be ordered out of the room, even though she was suppose to be the right full boss. "Did you travel a lot?"

Chiara huffed, shaking her head. "Men." She hummed, beginning to grill the salmon before turning to Flora. "You can't just take that lying down you know. You have to make them see it your way." She turned back to her salmon in thought, nodding a little, "I traveled all the time. In fact, it was my favorite part about what I did." Well, the traveling could only be tied by the amassing of treasure but she wasn't about to tell her about that.

Flora was more used to being alone during meals, maybe a maid or two eating with her but that was it. But with their being meals with all the other competators around, she didn’t feel all that lonely anymore. Nodding she took another bite of the apple. “What do you do for a living? If you don’t mind me asking.” She added, not wanting to offend the woman.

Chiara certainly didn't expect her to ask that question, nobody else thus far had. It wasn't like she could turn around and say that she captained a ship, plundering and stealing for a living. She didn't miss a beat though, allowing herself to hum for another second before responding. "I suppose you can say I'm a jack of all trades, I've done a lot including being a chef. What about you?" Of course, when she was a chef it had been on a ship. Details. She wasn't really lying just...omitting.

Lovino just let out a hum in response, pursing his lips slightly. Of course it wasn’t hard but still it kinda felt like he had lost something…maybe a bit of his pride, he wasn’t exactly sure yet. Though, it probably was better to just give in. Even if he didn’t like it that much. “It’s fine.” he gave her as answer and closed his eyes again, still letting his arm drapped over his now closed eyes. “I can’t be mad at a pretty lady for too long anyway.” 

So here he was now…probably many of the others would aim here for higher positions. He could imagine so. He had heard that nobles also could happen to be part in this game or however you wanted to name it. For sure a noble wouldn’t aim for anything else than general when not even king. Which surely wasn’t the worst position. Hopefully it was so…he didn’t want that much competition for his person. Though, general…and most likely kings or queens too..it was kind of hard to believe someone else would want to be Constable.

Chiara shook her head a little, for once trying to hold her tongue. It was strange for her here, being thought of as a lady rather than as a fearsome captain. In her former occupation she chose her crew, the people to surround herself with. If someone betrayed her, she could throw them off the plank or leave them stranded on a deserted island somewhere. Here, she wasn't even suppose to get angry at people. For someone with a temperament such as hers, the task of befriending people was not easy for her. She shook her head, eyes drifting back to her book.

She knew that in order to avoid either of them getting angry at each other, she should just leave well enough alone and read her book. Curiosity always seemed to get the better of her though. She was going for general, a pretty high up position for someone who wasn't noble but then again everyone here thought she was noble. She was suited to the position though. She couldn't help but wonder what he was going for. "So I'm going for general. If you don't mind me asking, what position are you competing for?"

It was different but of course Antonio embraced change easily, a go with the flow kind of guy. He was wary, that was a given, but he did not believe that she would cross him. That could always be wishful thinking yet he chose to give her the benefit of the doubt for now.

"What can I say querida you look stunning in a corset," he winked, appearing nonchalant about it. Truth be told though, it was very attractive to see a woman hold his own with him and she had proven a formidable opponent. Maybe instead of fighting they could put all that tension to better use.

He raised an eyebrow, inquisitive. So she did have her sights on Korin. She might be someone to impress and have at his side yet. “Didn’t want to be queen?” he asked, not shaking that she would be a very interesting person to rule by - but general did suit her. “What appeals to you about being my general?”

It was strange Chiara usually resisted change but this one seemed easy enough. She was sure that in certain circumstances old habits would die hard ad they would find themselves bickering, but she did believe they could get along well enough. She held back a smile at the thought of the two of them running the kingdom of Korin together. That would certainly be something. Now all they had to do was win the competition. She wasn't the most...agreeable person. Allies weren't easy to come by for her so she was glad to be able to call Antonio an ally.

She had to admit, as much as she hated wearing dresses and such when she first arrived at the castle she was starting to get used to it. Although she didn't want to think about it, she couldn't help but appreciate the compliments. "Grazie," she said, a little reluctantly and with her arms still crossed.

It was funny, when she stole her invitation she had a long internal debate about whether to be queen or general. However, once she arrived at the castle she heard there was less competition for general, and knew the job would suit her. She would happily rule, but the role of general would  be a fairly easy transition from captain, "I would happily be queen, but there can only be one monarch elected. Whoever you chose as spouse will be queen I suppose," she shrugged, chuckling, "That is if you can settle on one girl. I heard there was more competition for king or queen in Korin coming here, and I knew I'd be just as suited to the position of general. I mean, instead of captaining just one ship I'll rule an armada and a standing army. That certainly would be interesting."

Flora smiled and nodded, walking over to where she was and sood next to her, “I’m guessing you missed dinner since I didn’t see you there.” She stated as she watched her cook. “I used to love to watch the maids cook, something about it is calming. But I’m not calling you a maid.”

Chiara had a tendency to miss meals. Sitting and trying to act 'proper' in a room full of prissy rich people was beyond uncomfortable for her. She was used to chaos during meals, different courses constantly coming out as a bunch of rowdy pirates ate like savages. Strangely enough, she preferred the ever dreaded food-fights (which sometimes ended in fist-fights) to going to one of the scheduled meals here. "I didn't think you were. Believe me, if I had taken offense you would know."

"Yeah, I like talking to people and learning their story." She hummed with a smile, taking another bite of the apple. "What are you making~?" She asked once she smelled a magnificent aroma fill the air.

"Well then, I guess you'll like being queen." Chiara knew herself, and she knew that she could not hold court and listen to a countless stream of people come in, tell her their tragedy and ask her for help. She knew she might be able to sit there and listen, but it was the having to turn people away that would be her issue. She looked over at the girl, continuing to mix lemon with the other ingredients,  "Grilled Salmon with preserved lemon and olives."

Blowing air trough his nose, he huffed slightly but did indeed as she wanted and moved over a little bit to make her place. At least he didn’t have to give up this alcove now and maybe he could even nap some more. After all, he had noticed the book she had with her and he honestly doubt that she would try to make much of a conversation after that. Maybe she would…he didn’t know. Fact was, he wouldn’t be able to talk about any books no matter what. Giving her a short smile, Lovino layed back down, holding an arm over his eyes to shield them a bit from the sun. “Lovino.” he muttered after a while, not really caring if she would hear his name or not. But he figured it would probably better to be on good terms with at least some people. And if not good terms then at least good enough for them not to backstab him.

Sitting down with a small huff, Chiara curled herself up in the space that he had made for her. She was glad the alcove was obviously designed for two or three people and there was plenty of room for the both of them. Resting the book in her lap, she opened to the page that she had left off on. She was pretty desperate to get into a better mood. She seemed to be making more enemies than friends and that really wasn't how she wanted this competition to go. Peering over the book when he muttered his name, she smiled a little, "Lovino. Was that so hard?" Tilting her head a little, she bit her lip, "I'm sorry I woke you up from your nap. Chiara wasn't the type to apologize often. Her stubborn side usually was able to convince her that practically everything she did was justified. Even her stubborn side would agree that waking him up, especially in the way that she did, wasn't nice.

She was such a piece of work. A fiery little thing, as he recalled many of their verbal disputes in passing. She was as quick on her feet as she was a debate. Now that she was here and they were no longer at odds it felt weird, but in a way kind of like a blessing. He could finally get to know her, see sides of her he had not seen before.

He loved getting under her skin, the power she gave him when she got mad him she did not even realize it. “I realize. It’s kind of attractive,” he teased winking at her. “It is a very good thing you are not interested in Korin. We would have a problem otherwise~” He laughed, he just could not help himself.

Chiara slowly came to realize as they were talking just how weird this conversation was in comparison to any conversation they had before. In all their past run-ins, they were either working against each other in one way or another. They were both acting captains, too busy when at sea to have any conversations that didn't involve giving orders or throwing taunts and jeers at each other. Now, they were in the castle, with time on their hands for real conversation. To top that off, they were actually working towards a similar goal.

She could honestly say she had never met anyone quite like Antonio. Although she was easy enough to anger as it was but nobody could actually get to her. Nobody, that is, except for him. She rolled her eyes again, shaking her head, "You see me in a dress one goddamn time and now this. What happened, did you realize that I am a girl?" She had seen him interact with enough girls to realize the type of guy he was. Although she did have her lovers when on shore she came to the castle fully intending to focus on work. Sure, she had always been attracted to him but he was much too infuriating for her to actually want to do anything about it.

Chiara smiled wryly, chuckling a little with him, "Oh but I am interested in Korin. You don't have to worry your pretty little head about it though, I'm not going for queen and surely the King of Thieves would settle for nothing less than the throne. I'm competing for general."

Flora never took anything personally by someone who acted a bit rude, knowing that there always a reason behind a way someone acted. "Oh, I'm competing for Queen of Stazen~" she hummed with a smile, fixing the bonnet on her head.

"Queen eh, sounds like a lot of dealing with people. Something I am not particularly inclined to do. Good for you though." Since the woman was obviously intent on staying in the kitchen, Chiara turned around and looked through the cabinets with one hand while still holding the apple in the other. Managing to find the ingredients she needed and the proper pots and pans, she began cooking a simple meal so that she could finally eat something substantial.

Lovino just nodded slightly with his head. He normally wasn’t like this with women, hell he probably would flirt with Chiara if it wasn’t for this situation- but he really just wanted to take his nap and she seemed determind to not let this happen. “That’s probably really impressive and all but I’m still not moving and leave this all for you.” he explained her, shrugging slightly with his shoulders at the same time. Hell, he wouldn’t even care that much if she was sitting near, he could scoot some if she wanted to, but that alcove was nice and he wasn’t willing at allto give up his sleeping place he just found not that long ago.

Chiara sighed in exasperation, closing her eyes and rubbing her temples. She was nursing a particularly nasty headache and an argument was most certainly not what she wanted to deal with right now. Typically, she would forcibly remove anyone who decided to continue to stay where she wanted to be but not when she was in a mood like this. She grumbled a little, looking at the man that appeared to be just as stubborn as she was, "Fine, at least move over."

"You see I just had one name to go buy, I would get so confused and muddled up with my alternate lives and selves," he replied smirking over the way she said his name. "El Duque Alejandro of Korin," he remarked dryly. "No one will be coming forward to prove me otherwise anyways. Let’s just say that I sent the Duke and his family on a long sea voyage to the colonies."

They had been this way, since he could remember. It was back and forth, all the time. “What about the time you told the wench I intended to take back to my Cabin that I had some terrible disease down below the belt? Or the time that you made off with my hat as a souvenir? You see we have done so much of our share of topping the other. But sooner or later, you are going to have to accept that I always get what I want and that I always am on top.” He reached out to grip her chin, tilting it up so she would look at him. He wore a devil may care smile and looked so down right pleased. He had another ally in this castle, hopefully. If she’d be good.

Chiara nodded, approving of his choice in alias. She had cycled through quite a number of aliases, both male and female, herself for all different purposes.  Each one had detailed back stories and their own relations with different people.They were pieces of her though, and she remembered the strangest of details about them: A particular lover, a tragic accident or a happy family. The details like that were what made her stories convincing, but also much more difficult to carry around with her. She was glad Antonio had a good cover while here though, she wouldn't want to run into a problem if his cover fell apart.

She raised an eyebrow at him, fighting the instinct to slap his hand away and wipe that stupid smile off his face. Nobody could drive her insane like he could, "You do tend to get what you want,  but in the end so do I. We might have different ways of going about it but surely you should realize by now that I don't ever just give up." Chiara would be more than willing to ally herself with him. As much as she didn't want to admit it, she knew it was the smartest move. It wasn't like he was any more a bad guy than she was. They would both do right by Korin, and that was all that mattered to her in the end. She just hoped they could be on the same side without ending up killing each other.

"You and I both, if I’m not mistaken." It was refreshing seeing her here but he had to back track and make sure they were both on the same page. What did she have in mind being here? What were her goals? Was she going to get in the way of his? Last he saw of her, he’d done something dickish but he couldn’t have done more. He’d gotten what he’d wanted and left. Look after yourself and only yourself, wasn’t that the twisted law of their former lives?

"You know we both did what it took to survive," he countered crossing his arms, "and see it looks like you escaped somehow so we’ll call it even for the time you put those holes in my beautiful ship." Yeah he wasn’t about to forget that day. One of his first encounters with Chiara was her having the gall to think she could take him in a fight at sea.

"Sure, I am a fugitive under multiple names. Yet, none of them actually mine or even female. So I can still go by Chiara. What are you,  Mr. Rey Del Los Ladrones, going by these days if not that name?"

Chiara shook her head, fighting back a smile as she thought about all of the times they had wronged each other. It never seemed malicious. In fact, it was more like a childish competition. She didn't hate him per say. The sad reality was that he was probably one of the closest things she had to a friend. So yes, she blew holes in his ship (which she felt particularly justified in doing at the time) and he left her to be captured, getting away with all of, rather than just his split, of the goods. Still, she couldn't imagine that he would be a problem for her here.

She chuckled a little, crossing her arms as well. "I did escape, barely. Still, it was quite a feat if you ask me. I would like to call us even, but there still is that time you used my ship as a decoy and canon fodder. Yet another time that you got away with both our shares of gold." They had done things like that so many times that it was hard to keep track of what started it all.
