Malerie's First Popcorn Project!
Malerie's Debut of her PopCorn Project
New week, new hack to build on. This week we dive into Popcorn. It is a web native video enhancer. Any video you can find or upload to the web, you can give it a more informative twist to it. A day in the life of a Chicago Quest Teacher was a fun Counter Narrative that the kids observe in their surroundings. As much as Chicago has tried to change Cabrini Greens, it is still hood! Call it a new name, it doesnt matter. The people make up the community. The Internet, cyberspace, or web is and should be the furthest from thing being ghetto. Well, MySpace did become a little blah, but that's just me! Popcorn is completely open source and free to all whom is willing to try to be creative. Kids, teachers or anyone who wants to express themselves via video should try it. Try it out, you may like. It or find you own way to use this tool. http://mozillapopcorn.org

Build one, its a lot easier than you would know if you never tried!
Placing power like this in the hands of the kids could be dangerous! It seems that WMD's were found in this tour of duty. Webmakers of Mass Development continued after our jam was over. http://cmon.lovebomb.me/rzkcdags There is an unlimited amount of positive energy that motivates a child to be creative when they invest their own passion into it! ~MW If you were to do a http://Lovebomb.me what would it be?
This was a Day in the Life type project I'm working on for the kids. I called it Wednesday Transparency Film. In short, I was going to call it WTF but I don't if that is PC.
Being that it was filmed and edited on the iPad, it's not PC.

We all can learn something new!

This sample bridges over into another project I'm building with the kids. I made the image a link as well! It was my Easter egg for them. Changed colors for the links they can select. Good stuff, Good Times!
In Mozilla terms, I had another Kitchen table session/ Jam session with some students and teachers. Its an open to all, web hacking session. We will use the tools that Atul {I know right, but he's awesome} and the rest of the Mozilla Justice League create to help keep the web open and free globally.
I guess you can say I'm becoming more comfortable in my browser! "Whomp, Whomp!" Anywho's, it seems that the kids are liking these quick rotational web hacking sessions. One week its Popcorn for video enhancement, Spam it forward with a LoveBomb, Code Watching with the X~Ray Goggles. It's something like bird watching but we just look at websites that's cool!
Learning used to be fun as we explored outside with our friends as kids. As we age, it seems we become the more isolated. You have to pay for the cool things you are interested in. You never had to pay for that pickup game at the gym! It was fun, you worked on your game(Developed/Build). Connected with other (Socialized), and at the end of the day you had fun, exercised and learned something new!
What is stopping us from doing this intellectually in all disciplines?
Students making edits in Popcorn!
Betatestin' in a Windy City
The girls I hack with brought another teacher into our lunch Betatestin' Session. It was close to 40 minutes of cool tinkering. Since I have an investment of being their Sports for the Mind teacher, they were open for brain wrinkles. Therefore we played with Popcorn! They were in a awe!
Highlights:
-They got their videos in Popcorn
-Exploered new tech
-User friendly
-Helped each other learn something new
-The visiting teacher seeing this being useful in the classroom at this phase!
Points of Challege:
-Depending on a server or just the school connection lowered our high of awesomeness!
-Could not slice video length
-Could not merge videos
-Time, it flys when you are having fun
-Video in video (PiP)

One and One
Theme #1 Origin Story "Your Digital Identity!" {the profile hack} Mar7
In the infamous words of Stumpy "Oh Joy!" a few kids showed up and it was pretty successful. They made their first Hack and were over joyed! When the time was over, I did feel a little sad but it is good to leave them wanting more. The engagement, brief exploration, explaining what a hack is and could be, elaborating on the task at hand and the evaluation among peers boosted their creativity. After their first hack, they were charged with coming up with their own Digital Identity.
They loved the persona of bringing web graffiti artist. Therefore we needed to create our tag, image and name. Behind every name or tag is a purpose, what will theirs be? My most shocking moment would have to be the difference in range of the kids. Some of them, yeah, I know that should be talented and good at this type of stuff. Then there were some that has a history of not being the best in their classes. They flipped the script! A duck to water! To me, it was special! Some kids we can not give up hope on. That's real talk or type! We all want to be good at something and giving them a chance to learn something different and having fun, FUN!!!!!! Heck, I'm glad I did it and now I can't wait for the next episode.
Stay tuned! "If you like something, express and polish its beauty for the world to enjoy!" ~MW
