the beginning of 2023, in fact.
january 2023, to be precise.
in this new year, you've developed some new senses. the taste of lacking. the feeling of absence. this missing; it's been collecting in your chest like sleep under your eyelids. and yet, you don't know what you need. this absence feels profound.
you consider media. you consider watching a new film, but you can't decide on something good to watch. you consider taking up drawing again! but your pencil is over there, and you're all the way over here. so you settle on listening to something new. something fresh. something that makes you want to make your bed in the morning.
you think about what you need in a new artist. a song about eating concrete? yeah, that could be good.
a song about needing someone to hold your hand, while you simultaneously crumple when you think about someone else touching you? that would be wonderful, actually.
a song about being on the verge of overflowing, despite having nothing left within you? yeah, that's it. that's what i need.
you sit down, and you pause. for just a moment. after a deep breath, you decide to calm down by aimlessly scrolling through tumblr. you're taken aback by a post that begins 'the year is january 2023'. there's a link on that post; a link to the spotify page of a band called bears in trees.

you're not sure how to feel. but you follow them here, and you vow to return to it tomorrow.
before you move on, you decide to reblog this post. because you know there's someone out there, just like you. someone with the same sense of absence.
