The two stood together at the mouth of a tunnel as she watched as her squad mates wandered down the path when she felt his hand grabbing her arm to stop her from following. Lifting her gaze to meet the man's, Rise listened closely to what he said, hanging on every word he spoke just as she so often had. He was being serious.

It was the squad's first expedition on their own, it was only natural that Guren would find himself concerned with their ability to complete it safely. After all, they were investigating a report of vampire activity down at the bottom of the mining shaft they were currently standing at the entrance of. They were being thrown straight in, it was almost as if Kureto was trying to test them with this mission he'd personally sent them on.

Nodding as she stepped back to get a better look up at him, the brunette reached to rest her hand upon her chest as she smiled up at the Lieutenant Colonel. "You have my word, Sir. If I suspect even one tiny little thing about to go wrong, I will have my squad retreat back here. You have my word."

The teenager spun on her heel to face the tunnel once more, seeing the fleeing forms of her friends getting ahead of her as she took in a deep breath. She took a step forward before she suddenly stopped and craned her neck to look at the man, that same warm smile still on her face.

"Hey, Dad? I love you. I'll be back soon, I promise!"

And with that, she spun back around and started hurrying down the path, waving an arm as she called out for her squad to wait up for her, that she was coming too. She was going to come back from this mission, even if it killed her.

It wasn't uncommon for Rise to get scolded or lectured by Guren, after all not only was he her superior officer, he was also her caretaker. Every little mistake she made, every little slip-up, he was there to make sure she corrected it, regardless of where they may be at the time the error was made. Even if that was on the battlefield, where they currently were.

Hands rested on her shoulders, the grip they held serious as the man stared directly down at her, his gaze just as intense. It was clear to her he was concerned, he had his own way of showing it, and if he didn't care then he wouldn't take the time to go out of his way to lecture her every opportunity he had. So, she stood there and listened to what he had to say, doing her best to school her expression to hide the fact that his raised tone was causing her anxiety to skyrocket in that moment. It was always like this, though the yelling she was more used to was coming from a place of malice, whereas the tone the man held was one full of care.

"I-I... I'm sorry..." She finally managed to say as he finished speaking, unable to find the words to mutter anything else in response. Causing him worry like this... it made her feel immensely guilty, and the only thing she could ever think to do was apologize every time.

Rin had been threatened many times in his life, it just came with being him, and yet when he heard threats from the Lieutenant Colonel he found himself... fearful. It was as if he believed the raven haired man would actually carry through with his threats, even despite others around him trying to say he wouldn't. Even this friend of Rise's standing beside him was trying to reassure him, and yet he stood there feeling unsure.

He offered a wavering smile as he reached his hand up to rub his neck, "I... appreciate the encouragement, Shinoa, but... I think given the chance, Guren wouldn't hesitate to carry through on his threats. They don't seem all that empty to me."

The nervousness was clear in the girl's voice as she immediately responded to the Sergeant's question, her hazelnut gaze snapping in her direction with wide eyes. She wasn't the type to go against her superiors wishes, and if Guren learned about this she would definitely never hear the end of it. So, the girl sighed and shook her head as she looked away from the other.

"...No. No, we have to keep this between us, Shinoa, no matter what. Promise me, please..."

Sapphire eyes lifted to look at the blonde boy sitting beside him, a sad look reflecting in them as he found himself frowning. Rin loved Yuuri, as if he was his own brother, the brother he never had due to how his own existence came to be. Reaching out, the young prince delicately rested his hand upon his dearest friend's arm as a soft and warm smile came to his pale features.

"I won't ever let you go back, Yuuri, do you hear me? I swear. You're stuck here with me forever, got it?"

Rin's own existence hadn't been a very pleasant one and the things the boy had seen and had been through he wasn't sure he would ever be able to tell anyone about. Not even Mikaela. Hell, not even Yuuri or Rise. But, if he could be there for his loved ones to comfort them and offer support in any way he knew how then he was happy to do it.

"Why don't you tell me about it? What you've been through? I'm always happy to listen to you, Yuuri. I know it really helps too, you've told me before it feels like a weight gets lifted off your chest every time. So, go on--share with me."
