If we like this, I'll make it a series!
Chan: A Healing Love (college au, DJ! Han, college student! Chan x Fem!reader, college student! Changbin, strangers to lovers. Warning: mentions of alcohol, negative self-image, fatphobic comments not from Chan) Word Count: 2k
Up until meeting Chan, you were convinced that you were meant to live a lonely life. No one expressed interest in you and your family always said it was due to your physical appearance. “Well, if you took better care of yourself, maybe boys would like you.” “You think a guy wants to date someone who refuses to put effort into the way they look?” “You look sloppy all the time, I wouldn’t want to date you either.”
Their words cut you much deeper than they could have ever imagined. Even after confronting them, they blamed you for being “so sensitive”. So, you decided it was better to not get your hopes up and focus on yourself. If you didn’t even bother waiting for that door to open, there was no reason to be disappointed when it remained shut. When you started college, you mainly kept to yourself, sitting in the back of the classrooms and wearing headphones during your walks from building to building.
One day, as you were listening to the campus radio station, you found yourself listening to an interview between the usual host J.One (which everyone knew was second year student Han Jisung) and his band member Chan. You had seen the band perform once or twice at the campus outdoor venue, but had never met them personally. However, from the way that Chan talked, you instantly felt drawn to him. His point of view, his ideas, thoughts, even the way he laughed. Those thoughts quickly left your mind as your memory readily reminded you that you had absolutely no chance to even know him let alone be with him.
Arriving at your dorm room, you saw a flier taped to the door (and every door in the dorm). The details discussed the 3RACHA performance that was apparently happening that night in some frat house. Ignoring the paper, you went into your dorm and shut the door behind you.
Somehow in the next few hours, you not only convinced yourself to go to this show, but to go wearing your cutest outfit complete with hair and makeup. You hadn’t gone out in a look like this in a long time, but you figured if you were going to go, you would do it right. Things went smoother than anticipated, maybe because everyone was invited to the performance? You were worried about being denied entrance by some asshole frat pledge guarding the door. But it was quite the opposite, you were offered a drink as soon as you entered and people seemed to be kind enough. You took a sip of the beverage, scrunching your nose at the cheap beer flavor. As you stood against the wall, you heard the beginning beat of a song and directed your eyes towards the small “stage” area that consisted of a carpet and three lamps pointed towards said carpet. The three of them took the stage, Chan sitting on the floor while fiddling with a laptop. Without much introduction, SpearB (also known as Changbin) started rapping. Was it fire? Of course. Even though you had never heard 3RACHA in person, their reputation precedes them.
At the end of the show, the boys started mingling around the party again, being flocked by pretty girls the second they were off the stage. You scanned the room, already mapping out your escape route when you were startled by the sudden presence of a guy beside you.
“Hey! I haven’t seen you around here before.” He leaned in closer to you so you could hear him over the music.
“Uh yeah, because I don’t really do this stuff.” You responded and could already feel a creepy vibe from him. Something about the way he stood uncomfortably close and the strange look in his eyes was setting off alarms in your brain.
“That’s unfortunate, you’re really cute. Should we maybe go somewhere quieter to talk?” His smirk made your brain scream that being alone with this guy would be dangerous at the very least.
“Nah, I’m just gonna head out. Have a good night.” You politely tried to remove yourself from this situation. A chill went down your spine the moment his hand grabbed your arm and pulled you back to where you were.
“C’mon, you don’t gotta be like that. Let me get you another drink.” His tone was trying to be kind, but the grip he had on your arm was tighter than you would like.
“I just want to leave.” You were doing your best to be firm but the situation was growing more and more overwhelming every moment. The music was thumping just a little too loud, there were slightly too many people packed into this room, and this man was looming over you with no hope of escaping him. Your head began to spin when a voice cut through the chaos.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, baby.” You recognized the Aussie accent before you could turn to look at him. Chan was standing behind you, his eyes locked on the other guy.
“I didn’t wait too long.” You act along with him, hoping that your “boyfriend” would help you get away. He wrapped a protective arm around your waist and pulled you towards himself, making the other guy slowly release his grip.
“Thanks for removing your hands from my girl. Don’t touch her ever again.” His voice was firm and a little scary, you had to admit. “Let’s go, Hon. I’ve missed you.” When he spoke to you, his voice was soft and kind. He leaned his head down to put his mouth by your ear. “I’ll walk you out, is that okay?” He whispered and pulled back to see your reaction. You nodded, and followed him out of the house. Once you were away from the noise, you felt your body relax as you were now in the clear.
“Thank you so much.” You muttered once he removed his hand from your waist.
“Oh, not a problem. You seemed uncomfortable and that guy creeps on girls at like every party I’ve been to.” He smiled softly and you felt yourself melt at the sight of his dimples.
“Well, I’m really thankful anyway. And you guys really killed it tonight.” You could see the tips of his ears turn pink at your comment as he bashfully took an interest in his sneakers.
“Ah, we were alright. It wasn’t our best show, though.” He muttered.
“Are you kidding? I literally only came to see you guys. You’re definitely worth the hype.” You were shocked to hear him say that. You saw his ears go from pink to a deep shade of crimson, his fists shoved as deep as they could go into his pockets.
“Um, thank you…” He was clearly flustered, unsure of how to progress from this point.
“I’m gonna head back to my dorm, then. Thank you, again.” You smile at him and turn to walk in the direction of your dorm building.
The next day, you decided that you were in fact attracted to Chan, but it was very likely you wouldn’t see him again.
That is, until you went to your first class and saw him standing in the hallway by the door. He was cooly leaning against the wall, scanning the sea of students walking to and from their perspective classes. When his eyes landed on you, a smile grew onto his face and he made his way towards you.
“Hey, y/n!” He greeted and you felt your eyes widen, not realizing he even knew your name.
“Um, hey! Are you in this class?” You asked, eyeing him curiously. However, you couldn’t keep a small smile from resting on your face.
“Yeah, I just don’t bother coming very often.” He jokes and you find yourself breathing out a small laugh before you can stop yourself.
“And to what do we owe the honor of you joining us today?” You teased, becoming slightly aware of the fact that class is starting in just a few minutes.
“Oh, y’know. Gotta show up to get my money’s worth.” He clearly had no intention of being in actual class, as he literally didn’t have anything with him (not even a pencil??).
“Then we better get in there.” You turned and walked into class, taking your usual back-row seat. Chan sat beside you, instantly pulling out his phone to scroll through Twitter. You, however, pulled out your pencil pouch and notebook to take notes. Chan immediately noticed and began rummaging through your pens. He asked for a piece of paper not long after and began doodling on his paper.
The rest of class, he went back and forth from doodling nonsense and bothering you. While you tried to focus on the professor, your mind was racing with questions. Why is Chan here? Is he just messing with you? What does he want from you?
You were pulled from your thoughts by your classmates around you standing and gathering their items.
“What are you up to after this?” Chan asked as the two of you walked out of the classroom. Your mind instantly blanked. You forgot your schedule, you forgot your name, you forgot how to talk. Chan noticed the panic in your face and instantly started backpedaling. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to come on too strong I just-”
“No, it’s fine! Should we grab coffee or something?” You interjected, your brain finally rebooting enough to make a coherent thought. He smiled in relief and nodded, indicating for you to follow him.
And that was the beginning. It was safe to say that you and Chan were attached at the hip from that day forward. Not yet dating but very much still into one another. From the flirty banter to spending almost every Friday night together watching movies. On one of those movie nights, you and Chan were snuggled up on the couch.
“I really like being around you.” Chan confessed out of nowhere, his eyes still fixed on the screen.
“Liar.” You replied instantly. It was a knee jerk reaction, but you played it off like it was a joke. Was it a joke? No, absolutely not. Your brain couldn’t comprehend someone like Chan liking you in that way. He turned his head, brows furrowed in concern.
“I have no reason to lie about that.” He was clearly upset at your reaction, not taking it as a joke for even a second.
“I was just messing with you, Chris.” You chuckled, waving him off and focusing on the movie. Without missing a beat, he paused the movie and turned his attention on you intently.
“No, you weren’t. Why do you feel like that?” His voice was soft but firm, urging you to face him and look into his eyes.
“I just, uh, don’t think you actually do.” You mutter, looking down at your fingers.
“Is it because you don’t like me?” He was still confused, his voice still soft but the hurt was creeping in. Your eyes went wide and you immediately shook your head, looking up at him.
“Oh my god, no of course not. I… really like you…That’s why I don’t think you could like me.” Your hands were shaking now and you could feel the hot tears of embarrassment welling up and beginning to fall down your cheeks. He smiled softly and reached for your hand, grazing your knuckles with his thumb gently.
“y/n, I want you to listen to me for a minute okay?” When you didn’t respond, he gently tipped your chin up to lift your eyes towards him. “I’m actually so obsessed with you. Like, it’s kinda embarrassing to admit outright like this. But, I think this is the only way you’ll believe me… You know, I’ve been trying to tell you how I feel for a while now.” Your mind was swimming with confusion. None of this felt real-you were waiting for the sound of your alarm to pull you away from this moment and back to reality.
“What?” was all you could manage to spit out after struggling to find the words.
“I mean, I am always joking about how I’m gonna marry you.” He points out, his lips slowly curling into a smile.
“I thought that was just to tease me because I would get so flustered.” You looked up at him. Nothing felt real, this wasn’t how it was supposed to go.
“And,” He continued. “I’ve even tried to kiss you, like, at least once a week… Anway, I could keep going forever. But I like you so much, y/n.”
“I like you too.” Your smile was so wide you were afraid your muscles might snap from the tension. “I’m happy to hear it.” He murmured, leaning in with a soft smile on his face. The moment your lips met, you could feel yourself melt. His touch was gentle, kind, loving. Exactly like how he always was.
