uhhh hi there, Tumblr art community! New artist here!
I'm here for the funsies, to share my art with people who might appreciate it and to find community among my interests and fandoms (I LOOOVE fandom so expect fanart!!) <3
I'm all for being art moots and meeting new people and making new friends and interacting so yeah!
I'll try my best to actually be active and not post only once every 10 months or so I promise
ik nobody's talking about these songs anymore but I've been thinkin about this ship ever since ERB came out so... I call this "Confessions of a Rotten Ego Renegade Boy" because it's dumb and it fits them
genuinely obsessed w this concept now might draw these gay sillies more
your art really cool and I was wondering what your process for picking colors is? ^^ /nf
Thanx for the compliment ^-^ I'll try my best to explain what I do!
I guess the main thing I like to do to make my colors more special is color variation of the same tone. I usually pick 1 or 2 highlight colors (I like very light blues, yellows and pinks), 1 or 2 shadow colors (for each shadow if I'm working with more than one, I mostly only use cool colors for shadows, blues and purples, but there can be exceptions) and a few color variations that come from the base color (no limit to those, but ranges around 3-5 ig? Example:
I like working with brighter, more vivid colors, but I use more desaturated ones for variation. The best way to see if this variation works is to use greyscale:
It just gives more texture and makes the art overall more interesting, instead of using just a solid color (in my opinion). You can also use it to make a slight transition into harsh shadows/highlights (I like to use a mix of blended gradients and harsh contrasting shadows, it all depends of the placement).
It's actually using this principle of color variation (I don't even know if that's the proper name) that you can get your art to look like this:
But I am definitely not at this level yet lol (art NOT mine, credits to rei_17)
And lastly, I also use greyscale to make sure the colors in my art create a good sillhouette to avoid letting it look muddled or washed out or like everything is kind of blending together. It's basically this:
Now, I'm by NO means saying the one on the left is bad and the one on the right is the only correct way to do it. It depends on many things, including personal taste and what your art aims for. Some artists that work with pastels aim for the left one and that's completely fine! Do what suits your taste! I just prefer to do it with higher contrast.
Which is useful especially for backgrounds, to allow your character to stand out without blending in with it. Take my most recent drawing as an example:
See, because Gojo's hair and skin are very light, keeping the BG as a lighter color would make his face stand out way less (and I want his face to be a secondary focal point). And sure, it's much more noticeable in grayscale, but it's still something our brain catches on when looking at a drawing. For this one, I specifically chose certains tones to allow everything to stand out as it should. Gojo's face stands out, the lighter part allows the "Aka" to contrast too, and his outfit, as it's not as important, doesn't need to stand out as much.
Pair that with some very basic understanding of color theory and how to work with shadows/highlights, I'll be honest, the rest is me just "random bullshit go"-ing my way into making pretty colors LOL but yeah do not be afraid to move around that color wheel!! Go crazy, put that orange in the middle of those greens and see if it works, art is experimentation after all.
I hope I explained myself decently enough and SO sorry for the crazy long post! '-w-
Alright it's almost 3:30 am here where I live and I was awake finishing this thing
So... my girlfriend challenged me to draw in her artstyle (and I think I failed at that, moreso I just drew using the same process+tools she does), so I decided to draw silly little Satoru being silly because I love him (and I wanted to do a cool pointing pose)
As you can see she's a lasso tool enthusiast so I had to suffer with it yet agAIN lol (wasn't as bad somehow)
Also I couldn't decide which version looks better, glasses or no glasses, so y'all tell me
Bro not an art post but I just had to externalize how hAPPY seeing this made me, like dude... SOMEONE IS USING MY ART AS THEIR PFP!!!! THAT'S SUCH AN ACCOMPLISHMENT I'M GENUJNELY SO HAPPY
Thank you so much user @lyd999 for making my day <33
