“you seriously won’t let me ride the wheel alone? what are you like scared i’ll fall out or something?” he asks the ride operator. it has been nearly five minutes of back and forth bickering between sawyer and the other person. clearly both individuals were starting to get extremely annoyed. all he wanted to do was ride the ferris wheel so he could safely talk to on of his superiors without anyone hearing him. with the town celebrations, there seemed to be any place hardly peaceful or quiet to go. seeing how high and how far the chairs of the wheel were from each other, sawyer thought the best place to go was high above everyone else. he had gotten a ticket, waited in line with screaming kids, and when it was finally his turn, he thought he would be allowed to go on the ride. of course with his luck that didn’t happen and instead he was fighting with the other.
“god fucking dammit.” he says, his voice raising a little bit and maybe catching attention from others. “this isn’t fair man. i waited in line like everyone else. i deserve to go onto the ride, dude. there’s no sign that say single riders not welcomed.” he tries to push by the guy quickly, but instead he’s pushed backwards. “dude what the fuck?” he says, moving towards him; not caring that people are starting to come closer to him, yelling themselves, and pointing at the vest he’s wearing.
faust wasn’t particularly interested in the success or failure of the other prospects. most of them were younger than her with their own skillsets and, mostly, she figured that if they all wanted to join, they’d have to figure that out on their own. she’d always kind of stuck to herself and, if it wasn’t for her brother, she wouldn’t have chosen to join up at all. in the end, she had very few options, far fewer for protection, and her resume read more like a kill count than something thrown together at the unemployment office, so here she was.
the very concept of foundation day was foreign to faust outside of the kind of shows her ex-girlfriend had made her watch where beautiful thirty-somethings played sixteen year olds in small towns, but there was kind of an appeal to it. there were already rides and games and she’d found a stand where someone was selling elotes, so she was--much to her own surprise--having a pretty good time when she heard a familiar voice carrying on. sawyer was acting like a fucking idiot teenager, arguing with some guy over a ferris wheel. with a sigh, she ditched her corn on the cob and sidled up by him.
“oye, carnal.” she whispered harshly. “we’re not members yet. you think your sponsor, or marcus, are going to appreciate the situation you’re in?” her voice wasn’t unkind, but assertive. “let’s just go find something else to do before you get in a fight with a carny and piss off someone who actually matters to you.” considering the situation, faust sighed with resignation. “or, fuck it, i’ll ride with you--but no more drama.”
