#atla #zuko #time lapse #i think.... my strongest recomandation to artist is just to skip the guidelines and jump to the volume of the form #and if you can't skatch it with lines then use the lasso tool to figure it out #and you can figure out folds with low opacity wohoo #also screw you bangs!

What art software do you use? and can you post a speedpaint? (You don’t have do answer or do any of this if you don’t want)

i switched a year ago to CSP. and work on a PC with an intuous 4 tablet.

this is my set up. i have a second screen on the right. and i try to have a clean workspace but.... ehhh don't worry about it. don't think about the folders in the corner. don't look at the faded drawings in the background. don't think to hard about it! i know i make people anxious with my way of working at times soooo.... really don't worry about it :)~ not a speed paint but can i offer a time lapse? TW: flashing. not sure if it is fast enough for the warning, but just to be safe.

(side note i think the sketch is from 2023 or 2022. so always keep your sketches kids! and gosh date them more properly then me ;;;)

my drawing process is rather straight forward though. -some sketch, or reference -redraw it -fix stuff and detail it -line art -base colours -colour lineart -shading optional mostly in this order. sometimes not. i don't control how the drawing comes out sometimes i just gotta -whack the project with a rolling pin- this is why i often say 'just a sketch' or 'doodle' i do just... sit down and spend my time drawing. there is not always a lot of a plan behind it other then 'i want to draw this character doing x now'. are the folds right? is the light correct? no don't care what matters most is if it looks nice enough for me. also filling lasso, liquify and transform tool are my favourite tools!

Can I ask where you usually find references for the clothing you draw and are there any sources you'd reccomend for someone interested in learning more about traditional clothing and textiles? my method didn't change and its not like there are specific link or sources that always include everything. not that it is what you ask anon. but a lot what i do is like... fact matching and checking. or watch tutorials on youtube by typing ing "how to get dressed as a buddhist monk in indonesia" and watch the video.

the steps are like: 1. wikipedia for base knowledge 2. find a museum who exihbits the item of clothing i am interested in or find a travel blog/forum/guide that shares the cluture. when it comes to indiginous people they do have their own websites more often (but some of my previous link's are now offline sorry. and tbh i never safe links i just... type in the search bar what i want and it spits out museums archives or travel blog information and such) 3. never underestimate the wast knowledge within reddit post when it comes to armor discussion. (please go the extra mailt o fact check just to be safe) 4. there are people on youtube that dedicate their freetime in educating and sharing their culture with the world link, link, link, link,

i want to emphasize... its not jut the item of clothing. but its the whole enviorment and history around it that should be looked at. because it all connects. which can make research sometimes a bit extensive. but its fun to me!

when it comes to atla characters redesign. good starting point is and will always remain @atlaculture. i owe them like... theoretically.... nearly everything i make so big thanks to them and all the time and effort they put in their blog!

Maybe zuko is dehydrated when he firebends because the fire burns off all the water!

i think its like part of fanon that firebending burns lots of calories and so most likely water as well. at least i occasionally saw it mentioned in fics and headcanons. so agree anon!

#chip!ask #bending to me is kinda like... well sports?#its not like the rock suddenly weighs nothing trowing huge boulders is like lifting weights and trowing them across the court #waterbending and airbending are more about your pulling strenght rather then the weightlifting aspect perhaps?#and in firebending you have 1. create the fire you intent to use which burns energy that well you need qi and calories for that.#and 2. additonal energy to controle that #idk thats what i like on atla bending is a strain and effort and not just magic telekenesis restricted on one element #and yes earthbenders are to me the bodybuilders of this universe and if anyone is really buff buff in the gaang then its toph!

listen i am here fully admitting that that one, THAT ONE really short moment where zuko activates his fire jets underneath his feet, are like two second that i keep watching on repeat over and over if i stubble upon on youtube edit, for.... well uh... REASON! and yeha adult gaang is hot and snatched, and buff, and attractive, and its all in their cheekbones. (may or may not more doodles in the future).

but my brain is the whole time "gosh none of them drink enough water"

As a previously non-Zukka shipper (I'm mostly a Zutara shipper, but I swear I come in peace), I wanted to tell you that your art is literally the best thing I've ever seen and you've kinda piqued my interest in the ship. I absolutely adore how youd draw them! I'm also in love with your Suki and Yue <3 The way you draw clothing and design the outfits is so creative, they feel like straight out of the show. This Sokka right here (https://chiptrillino.tumblr.com/post/757602911407718400) is, I think, my favorite, I can't tell you why, he's such a little guy and I want to hold him gently. Your art is really really beautiful!

just curious and coming from ur gorgeous katara art, what are your critiques of the other characters’ adult designs ?

summed up its not heavy critique because all in all considering the need to simplify design for the medium, these are all good and fine designs. also by all the leeks i have seen and the very lightly clothed fan arts that are around, it looks like there are some costume changes within the movie and i am all for that! but if i were to go for it and sit down and do some redesigns for fun, katara is simply the one i would change the least. (if i would even change anything)

after that comes sokka and aang with are just *eh* to me. idk why it feels a bit awkward at times.

toph and zuko to me look just to busy or the layering looks to complicated and not connecting properly. i have a post somewhere kind of pulling my hair out for trying to understand zukos aged up design from the LOK group picture. but i can't find this post anymore. whops. but basically i always had my beef with that one. and tophs gives me a bit the same vibes.
